Help improving retexturing models? (Pics included)

So, using GIMP the best i can figure out is how to do this:

The default weapons are really not salvageable in their vanilla state. They would need to be completely remapped to have a chance of making decent textures for them, but the models are so poor it really isn't worth the effort. If you want to try though, I posted the UV maps for all the K1 weapon models many moons ago here and here.

Thanks that does help, and i didnt know the models were that bad. So it looks like back to working Gmax.
