New to the Forums and KOTOR Series
I just bought KOTOR 1 & 2 for the original X-Box and I will be doing some Let's Plays with them. I will heavily RP these games but wanted to know if I should complete 1 before playing 2? Are they connected? Also please give any advice to playing these games.

Welcome to the Forums of Lucas. To answer your question, it might be easier to follow KotOR II's storyline if you play KotOR I first.

Semi-connected, but I say play KotOR before TSL to avoid spoiling some elements in KotOR.

I might want to watch your LP. I'm a big fan of veriax's. What's your YouTube channel going to be called?
EDIT
Please, no one spoil the game for him. Thanks.

Yeah, obviously play the first game before the second if you can. Also, speaking of "Let's Play", one of the best (and funniest and most insightful) LP's I've ever seen was for KotOR II, by Scorchy. It's part of the LP Archive, here's the link to the start of the LP.

I see. It's a Let's Play of IMAGES rather than VIDEOS. It's EXTREMELY funny don't get me wrong, but it would be five times more hilarious if it was in the format of the video.
EDIT
Haha! This is GOLD! It's better in an image format because I don't think that the LPer/writer would have been able to come up with these comical remarks and witty banter off the top of his head/on the fly. Definitely going to read more. Thanks for this recommendation!

bah! sentinel!
what you want to do is play gaurdian for both. you can build it to be a really scary jedi master/blade master.

Having played all the classes and variants, I can tell you that charisma is good no matter what for your main character. It serves a dual role in both conversations and in combat with the potency of force powers.
My personal preference for K1 was Soldier>Jedi Guardian, but there are advantages to other classes and variants as well. For example, in order to gain full access to HK-47's functionality you will need to make your repair skill at some point as high as 17. This is with the help of items of course.
Scout will have the most skills. Scoundrel will be best at talking people out of their money and such.
Jedi Sentinel is similar to guardian, but just don't count on combat quite as much since feat progression is not as fast...it'll be self explanatory soon enough.
Jedi Consular, you're pretty much all about your force powers.
BTW welcome to LF.
