I've been meaning to post this but haven't made the time to do so until now. Throttle back on your pod racers people, this deal ain't done yet though I don't think there is any reason to believe it won't be. Although the U.S. FTC cleared Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm earlier this month the European Commission has yet to render a decision but apparently has to say something by December 21. The commission apparently will either approve the purchase on or before December 21 or will announce an extension of the review period. I don't know if the deal has to be approved by any other regulatory bodies but if not then it looks like chances are good that Disney will close on this deal by the end of the year. It's almost official but not quite yet.

Doesn't really mean much, the deal is done. Disney has bought our Lucasfilm, Lucasarts. All that needs to be considered is what they will do with it and how carefully will they tread

I remain cautiously optimistic.
Can it really be any worse than it's been since 1999?

It's now official. The European Commission cleared Disney's purchase of Lucasfilm yesterday and Disney closed the deal in the same day. Should anyone have noticed that the day of the close occurred on the same day as the supposed Mayan "end of the world" I'm sure it's purely coincidental.

That's Star Wars: Detours.
Don't have much to say about the TV series. It's pretty obvious it would end up on ABC and that ABC would want a SW series on their network. Whether we'll get one (soon), remains to be seen. The only interesting new info is that Ron Moore was involved in writing the scripts. Now I'm curious what a Ron Moore SW episode would look like.

I don't trust him as a director. He's overhyped and his movies are forgettable... or memorable for the wrong reasons.

I like him much better than, say, Spielberg's stuff that came of late.
And I'm sure he knows the established movie canon isn't meant to be messed with (as he did with Star Trek IX).
Inspiration
.Bioshock inspiration.

Do you mean this is in regard to the overall SW universe or Lucas' VII-IX treatments?

He is tied to the story that Lucas made a treatment of that Arndt has written the screenplay for... but the director is the one who dictates how it's told regardless of what the writers have written. The reason why a director is seen as the most important part of the movie is because they end up shaping the very style of the movie itself (aside from the person/people doing the music), even if you have specific talented people working on the movie too who have their own style of doing things, the director is the one that still calls the shots in the direction the movie goes.
I'm not too thrilled about Abrams as director, I hope this turns out to be a really crappy rumour that isn't true... but if he is director, I'm hope I'm wrong and he's all like "TO HELL WITH ALL THIS GREENSCREEN! LET'S DO THIS ALL PRACTICALLY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE!" and turns out to do an awesome job with the movie.
After all, I don't WANT it to suck. I just have no confidence in Abrams. Hopefully I'm wrong and the people happy about him directing are right.

Looking back at what Abrams did with Star Trek, I can see how that would translate well to a Star Wars movie (perhaps more so than it did a Star Trek movie, I don't know, Abrams' Trek is the only one I've seen to date). But it's a style I'd identify more with the prequels than the original trilogy. Moreover, I'm not sure Abrams and Arndt combine well. If it turns out to be true, though, I'll be mildly disappointed, but willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm not arguing that. I'm merely saying that both Abrams and Arndt are tied to the story Lucas wrote.

Treatment, not story. Arndt was hired to flesh out the points of the treatment to create a screenplay which is why he is important because although Lucas wrote the treatment, the way Arndt goes about his screenplay is more important than the treatment itself.
