Being a Gray Sith

By Gray Sith, I mean the dark side of equivalent of Jolee Bindo, a Gray Jedi. This is how I play in SWTOR (as my Sith Sorcerer, anyway). Why?

Because I don't like pure LS and I don't like pure DS. I lean towards DS, because evil and because CONQUER EVERYONE LULZ but apparently being a lightsider means being an uptight arsehat, and being a darksider means being an idiot sadist.

Some idiot dark side examples:

1.On Balmorra, Grand Marshal Cheketta offers to publicly confess the Republic's support of the Balmorran resistance in exchange for his men being treated humanely as prisoners of war. This makes sense; it's a good trade. yet, going dark side means saying, "Nope, I want to torture your men and behead you NAO."

2. On Dromund Kaas, Darth Sadist develops a poison to give rebels a slow, lingering death, offering the theory that this will break all the other rebels' morale. His sergeant reveals that studies have shown (seriously, a medical phrase like this in Star Wars?) that this sort of terrorist action is at best ineffective and at worst counterproductive. Dark side choice means, "Nope, I'm an idiot who cares more about cruelty than actually getting something done."

For dark side, I want to play as an effective pragmatist, one who doesn't let morals get in the way of accomplishing his goals. Utter cruelty is counterproductive. Yeah, sure, it's evil, but still. Apparently being evil saps your brain. :/

I'm with you there. This is Star Wars, of course, with a clear good/evil dichotomy, but even then, they're being really extreme about it. Even Darth Vader wasn't as evil as some of the stuff that's being presented here. For my characters, I usually start with the intention to go light or dark, but over the course of the game, I do pick what makes most sense to the character, so I end up with a few dark side hits on a light side playthrough.

The various classes do seem to have different views of light and dark. Some classes get dark side points for being pragmatic, while others get light side points for being 'less' cruel. It makes no sense.

I've only got two, one empire (bounty hunter) and one republic (smuggler/gunslinger) and neither of them has budged too far from the middle.

I have a consular shadow jedi. TBH, while I tend towards honoring my word that usually gains light by default, I tend to not want to speak much, be a bit wisecrack or rather curt when my character does speak, and I have little tolerance for
1) mettlers
2) snitchers
3) nosy folks
4) people who drag me into trouble or cause trouble involving me
5) sniveling types
Usually just offing them or whatnot.

What I dislike, though, is that the middle answers, when provided, are either stock answers or unimaginative. Other answers are either full of hubris, presumptuous, or just simply so polarized to light OR dark. And since the voice acting heavily favors heroic and light sided dialog, the dark side dialog sounds overdone, poorly made, or it just plain doesn't make any sense.

While the shared flesh raider mission wasn't *that* much hassle to do 'not dark sided' (cuz I didn't get any LS points), I can understand hurling him into fire for the expedient playthroughs even though it will definitely give DS points that way.

================SPOILER END

I agree on grey sith and jedi plays. But also mind that this tends to be somewhat limiting in gameplay mechanics as you get additional reward for being strongly to one side or the other.

That's right, Bixby Snyder folks.
