scar: weren't you a CTN in the navy? my friend wanted to know what that job was like and i thought that is what you were for the navy, and he wants to know if you enjoyed it.

Some days I wish I did join the Navy. Would have finished my B.A. and signed up and probably would have qualified for O.C.S. at Annapolis.
But Meh.

I tried to get into the air force back in 96. They didn't want me.. mainly because i wouldn't lie. (too personal for public internet). That might have to do with POTUS Clinton scaling down the military
Crazy thing is.. i probably could get into the army now *shudder*
And as far as Far Cry. I had never played a FPS on the X360, and still have troubles getting the controls figured out. But for the first scene where i kept getting killed, i had no clue i has to stay far to the right until after the 6th try.
I have taken out 3 outposts without being noticed, using just take downs and a sniper shot for the last one.

Yeah, because of the Sequester, a lot of the budgets across the board have been cut pretty hard. Good luck to the Military now.
No offense, the Pentagon's budget has been needing to be cut for years..... >.>

The sequester is likely the only way the defense budget could have been cut. Last time anyone thought about cutting defense spending, there were people thinking soldiers overseas fighting terrorism would run out of bullets mid-fight

Mom (who just turned 83 last month...) took a fall while I was at work, and couldn't pull herself back up. She was stuck on the cellar floor for over 6 hours until I got home. She's OK... but also she had an embarrassing "accident" on the floor when she couldn't hold it anymore.
She won't be going up or down stairs anymore if I am not here. And probably not even then if I can stop her...
I got her a cell phone and a "Life-Line" type emergency device... but she didn't think to bring either of them with her when she went downstairs today.
I'm just glad I wasn't working a late, late concert today.
I'm also going to see how difficult it would be to put a washer and dryer on the main floor... so she has no reason to even think about going downstairs to the cellar.

Yeah... But I guess dealing with the issues that elderly parents have is going to be my new reality.
I'd like to sell my place and get something bigger and all laid out on a single floor, so that there would be less to worry about... but I'm not sure the economy would work in my favor at the moment... and I'm dead certain that she would still be totally opposed to it.
So I have to try to find ways to make it work staying here.

Curling season has come to an end for me. Ended up with a 11-8 record.
My last game came to the last end and my last shot. I was up 1, without hammer (last shot) and needed to steal (score) in order to win. if the game ended before my shot my opponent could have scored 3. There were 2 on top behind guards just biting into the house. and Their shot rock (closest to center) was on the right behind the T line. my shot was to draw, and end up freezing to their shot rock or hit and roll in. it was a high pressure shot and my previous shot ended up curling too much. if I didn't make this shot it was over and I lost.
ended up making it, and even rolled into the house to be behind cover and impossible to get out. winning.
Great way to end the season.

I am getting stronger every day that I train. This is good. Hopefully I can keep improving. The diet really made a difference for me...my diet consists of grilled chicken, salad, plumbs, milk, juice, protein shakes (100% gold standard whey and syntha-6) and water.
Good luck, ed. I'm hoping I don't have a hard time in that area when I get home, honestly. Just hope I learn from my past and let go completely of that...it's the hardest thing though. =\ but **** it, i date myself. I keep having to remind myself that I'm better off without her, and that there is a hotter girl out there that is right for me and I won't have to put up with as much bull**** as I put up to be with her... lol five finger death punch's 'the bleeding' can't be anymore accurate for me.

So the snow storm today made the "Blizzard" of a few weeks ago look pretty wussy. It was worse in my area in every way, save the power going off.
Yet... nothing closed. The college was open, and the show wasn't canceled. So I was expected to drag my ass into work at noon.
But none of the streets around here ever got plowed. It was at least 8 inches deep at the end of my driveway... and a car got stuck there for 40 minutes this morning.
I decided not to take the chance... and slogged my way up to the bus stop, and stand there in a blinding white-out waiting for the 11:15 bus (which finally arrived at 11:50...)
Needless to say, I ended up being late, by over an hour.
But, I still beat the band by 3 hours.
Today was a nightmare. Yippee.

New to the One Year threads! So, i've started a new exercise regime since January so that I can build the fat I have into muscle, rather than lose it. Going well so far, feel more defined, but a ways to go to get it perfect and keep it maintained!
This year has been decent for UK TV so far and will continue to be. This year we had My Mad Fat Diary, Way To Go, Great Night Out and soon our TV screens will be once again graced with Luther and Mad Dogs!

the only way to get rid of fat is cut carbs (bread, rice, pasta) bad calories (soda, alcohol, candy), and eat spinach, chicken, meat, fish. nothing fried. and increase protein with protein shakes, i started doing that last week and i'm starting to see results already. lost 5 pounds in a week. oh yes, also you have to be drinking water as that helps burn the fat.
i don't lift weights, i do calisthenics, they make all the muscles work!

Welcome Taak...we're a pretty good group here. If you haven't guessed, I'm the tenpin bowler in the group and live pretty close to edlib, though we've never met in person. I think edlib handles all of our groups on Facebook, so if you want to connect there, edlib would be the person to talk to.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
And muscle is essentially fat, it's just built/defined/buffed...unless i've just got everything wrong, but I really don't think I have, given that I live with a retired gym instructor..

Actually if you just cut calories you can cut fat. Doesn't matter if it is carbs, fat or protien. Tho to feel "Fuller" with less calories it is better to have a high fiber diet.
I have lost 15 pounds in the last 8 weeks because I cut my calories down do an intake of 2400 per day

To lose weight: Burn more calories than you consume.
To build muscle: Work them repeatedly and consistently at an increasing resistance.
It's really that simple. Yet millions of books, videos, pills, machines, programs, etc... have been produced to give you the impression that it isn't... and line the pockets of those promoting that impression.
My laptop is acting badly. It seems like it's the vid card... or maybe just the vid drivers. It's funny to think that 5, 10, or 15 years ago this would have freaked me out. I would have felt lost and frantic until it was back working perfectly again. I'd ignore everything else, drop all other concerns, and probably wouldn't eat or sleep until I hacked a solution and was back in business.
Now I just think: "Oh... Bummer. Now I'll just have to surf the net on my phone... or XBox... or PS3... or one of the other computers in the house... or go get my work laptop..."

my laptop is still kicking, it's almost a year old! samsung np305v5a still running great.
also...farcry 3 is so ****ing epic.
and i'm playing my Sith Warrior, Rioet on The Bastion pvp server in TOR. glad the laptop can run it..ehehe
i don't get as moody-hungry anymore since i started taking the syntha-6. i do find it easier to overeat when i'm sitting with a plate full of food cause the servers don't portion it right, but when i catch myself i just stop eating, and pour extra hot hot sauce all over it lol

I deleted all nVidia references, started in safe-mode, cleaned the registry, clean-installed the drivers again, and now it seems to be behaving itself for the moment.
There's an issue with the latest drivers though... but since I don't game on this computer, it really doesn't matter to me that I'm using older versions.

I'm in a good place with my virtual league right now. We have two weeks left in the current league, and my team needs only to win as many points as the 2nd place team to wrap the championship up this week. Last week, I think two of my teammates got together w/ games in the 260s in the same game and that helped us win all 7.

Over on Facebook, Gunner announced that his dad passed away today.
I don't know how often he visits here anymore, but I again extend my deepest and most sincere condolences to my XWA brother.
If you are friends with him there, you may want to log in and offer your sympathies.
