Double Edged Saber

I was watching episode 1 today and it got me thinking, will there be the option to have a double bladed saber, probly not in single player , but like for multiplayer, i think it would be pretty cool, there could be certain advantages to having one and disadvantages, you know?

A double saber? That's probably not in the game because it would add a whole new set of moves, blocks, etc. I'd rather have the game now then later with stuff like this added. It'll probably show up in a mod later on. There's a double-bladed saber in the SBX mod for JK.

btw, welcome to the forums . You should get a chocolate medallion and a spoon replica pretty soon

Yeah, altough personally I'm not that fond of the double bladed saber. (I just prefer using one blade over two) But he's right, it'll pop up in no time in some mod, which I hope will be better than the first few double bladed sabe mods that appeared for JK&MotS (basically the same animations as with the single saber.. but just with another blade in it.. which usually involved cutting through your own legs most of the time without hurting yourself for some reason. )

What about using two seperate sabers?

Hey, its possible Boc did it in JK1

and if that annoying little bugger could do it
why not add it in JK2(MP only)?

Well because it's confusing for both opponent and user.. and also.. when you think about it, it doesn't make for strong attacks.. concidering the opponents with one saber use the force in both their arms to perform a blow, or to block yours while you can only strike with half the force since that in each of your hands is a saber. and can't concentrate the strenght of both your arms into one blow.

You're going to regret saying that. but then again, the thing you might have wanted to see in jk2, probably wouldn't have been noticed by raven....

at least we don't gotta wait a year...and there will most likely be an expansion if sales are good. (which there will be)

I too would rather have the game on it's scheduled march release date and wait for mods to come out with this stuff.

How many times do I have to tell people this on forums...

I agree with Ki. All I want is a fun game, and recently, the Star Wars games have not lived up to my expectations. JO looks like it will be a great game, and if an expansion comes out a few months later with more new stuff, great.

Meh, double bladed saber, lightstaff, it doesn't matter, I'm still not fond of the thing. I never really quite got while it was so cool to everyone. It's harder to use since you've got two blades flying around you to worry about it. It also limits your movements because of that, which means that you need tons of skills to use it as effectively as Maul did. But anyways, I think that it got so popular because it was rather different from the average saber design.
Oh and thanks to them patches one thing sure got untrue to the SW universe, it's always been stated that there have only been a few handful of users of lightstaffs/double bladed sabers because they were so hard to use (and perhaps also needing twice as many components). But according to one game of SBX3 on the zone showed me something completely different, there seem to be less regular saber users than lightstaff users. (and that would be because alot of people think that having twice as blades also means twice as many chances of hitting your opponent, which is still rather untrue)

Ahem.. I was ranting.. sorry ^^"

edit/addition: Double EDGED saber? Now that term is way off.. since the "edge" is the cutting side of a blade.. so a double edged saber would mean that it would be a saber that cuts on two sides... but a lightsaber cuts all round^.^ But basically a double edged sword is one that has two sharp cutting sides.

1. There will be no lightstaff in JK2. Having it in multiplayer defeats the fun part, it's no longer a special weapon. It's like in an RPG if you get a really special and rare sword, well if everyone else had that sword it's no longer any fun.

2. A mod for a lightstaff is NOT feasable, unless your planning on hooking another blade on the saber without any new animations. The lightsaber in JK2 has over 300 animations, most transition animations that connect one move the next. It's almost impossible to create a whole new system like that for a lightstaff, coming from a mod team.

3. You n00bs need to realize JK2 editing is not the same as JK1. It's about 100 times harder. You don't press a button and magically get what you want.

1. It probably will not be in the game.

2. Expect to see some of the first mods to include a lightstaff. Lots of people jumped right into making them for Jedi Knight when TPM came out.

I'm not too sure about the lightstaff, might make combat too clumsy, and the same could be said abouthaving 2 lightsabers, but i would love to have 2 lightsabers!! ala Boc!!! :-D

I think its fun to use a double bladed saber sometimes but like pedro the hutt it isn't something i'm crazy about. Actually used to be crazy about it but i have gotten over it. But it would be nice to have a mod, because even if i'm not using it, it would make the duel quite fun.

I got bored with reading through all the responses, but I'm pretty sure nobody has said:

There will be no lightstaff.

There.

It was confirmed in the chat.

Insert a witty and thought-provoking quote here, I can't think of any.

As far as the Lightstaff/Double-bladed Lightsaber goes, Eternity's right. They confirmed in the chat that it would not be appearing.

Of course, as stated, there is always room for a mod if people really want to see it...

"Lightstaves" would be probably be proper plural form if you were calling it a "lightstaff" in the singular tense. You don't have "staffs", you have "staves". You don't have "a stave", you have "a staff".

I apologize if this sounds nitpicky; it's not meant to be. Just a little grammatical tidbit that interests me.

same here...I prefer a regular lightsaber in SBX, altho the lightstaff/double-bladed lightsaber was cool for a while, I grew out of it. (i would've liked it more had i been able to deactivate each of the blades at a different time, etc)

If you look at this link...

http://www.decipher.com/starwars/car...ightsaber.html

Read the game text, it is called double bladed lightsaber. The card game is considered canon, so if that's what they call it, then that's what it is. If it were a lightstaff, there would be no handle, but just a huge blade, staffs do not have handles.

As for the double-bladed lightsaber, I hope Raven gets around to doing one. If it doesn't make the game, hopefully they'll release an official one as a MP addon in a later patch.

As has already been said, the chat transcript says that it's not going to be in the game. So long as they aren't lying for surprise value (some of the screenshots on the official site suggest that a badguy may have one in single player) we can assume that modders will have to put it in.

It is a double bladed light sabre, not a lightstaff for both the cannon and the handle reasons.

While I'm not overly bothered one way or the other about it's inclusion it does present some interesting duelling options (insanely fast counter-attacks for one). Fighting with two sabres at Jedi speeds would require godlike coordination and skill but would probably make you invincible to just one opponent.

I'd much rather see variable length sabres make an appearance, they wouldn't unbalance the game too much, they would have fun suprise value, they could look cool (colour change with length shift) and they are more common in the EU universe than either of the other options. The ability to switch the sabre on and off would also be cool a far as deulling tactics goes.

Actually, to be nit-picky, the only things considered canon are the films, novelizations of the films, and the radio dramatizations of the films, in that order. All other material, other than fan-made material and anything bearing the "Infinities" label, is considered semi-canon, in that they are to be treated as canon unless contradicted by the canon sources. This is why, for example, the 8 km measurement given by West End Games of the Executor-class vessel is wrong, and it is actually 17.6 km long. Also, direct statements made in sources override inferrences made in other, which is why the Eclipse is still 16 km long, rather than 35.

If they put the double-bladed lightsaber , they will need a whole new system of combat animations ,because as we seen in the films , fighting with a lightsaber is not the same thing as its not quickly as the double-bladed lightsaber. It will require that you fight a lot faster and possibly you wont see clearly the movements ,but you can fix this with the camera slow motion option that they have included (but i wonder if there are options to adjust the speed of the battles) .

Maybe a set of multiple camera angle views for 3rd person perpective could show us all the action movements specially for the battles....specially for this kind of weapon.

so if you want to feel really like you are fighting with a double bladed-lightsaber, you ll have to modify some things:

-lots of camera angles a la Shadows of the Empire style(to capture and feel all the action from the films)
-reduce the speed of combat (so you can identify your movements and defenses)
-lots of new double bladed lightsaber moves extracted from Ep1
-and of course a beatiful second red blade , with a new handle and a beatiful maul skin with sith robes.

Its a long work for modders but I think it will bery cool to use it in "king of the Hill" MP mode , where only one player will get not the lightsaber but the double-bladed lightsaber!. All people will run to defeat this guy , but he will be very powerful using this deadly weapon!

lightstaff?what the hell is a lightstaff?

I recently went to barns and noble and when I was walking by the star wars section (on accident, star wars is for geeks,...and ...um ....dorks.....I would never be in that section on purpose....er....yeah) and I browsed through that Episode 1 encyclopedia where they devote an entire two pages to describing the double bladed lightsaber and all of its functions.
Never heard the term lightstaff except in this thread, I therefore, by the power vested in me, by the king of the United States of America, declare this object a double bladed lightsaber.

Now it's offical.

We will try as best we can with creating this in game, with saber moves etc, it just depends on the engine and how easy it is going to be to create the correct movements for the fighting in game.
