windows app background vs linux

Hi, this is my first attempt to run a windows ded server, I have run linux gameservers for years. Usually, under linux when I run an app I can move it to the backgound using screen or an & in the command line. Is there a way to do something similar in the winblows environment?

Thanks for the help

You can use the "start" command to launch the dedicated server process. I think there's a switch for it that you can make the process "non-interactive" with the current logged in user. I haven't done it, but I do use the /high switch. It runs the process at high priority.

Not sure if this will help you or not.

Regards,
Echo

Thanks for the reply. I am sort of running the server in the background using terminal services.. Log in with remote terminal and start the process, then disconnect the session. The session continues to run, sort of like a background session i guess, but its not exactly what im looking for. Any more ideas on how to move a process to the background in windows??

Thanks again..

I'm not sure how, but I've heard of some people getting game servers to run as a service.

Sure you can run it as a process. Is there a freeware/shareware way to do it? I don't know. I have used Service Mill at work. It is NOT free. A bit pricey at 125 bucks. There is a trialware version but I do not know what it has stripped out or how long the trial ware stays active.

Throw them into the pit of Sarlac. Where they will be digested for 1000 years.....
