ChAiNz.2da's W.I.P. ...w00t!...
Sweet, a thread of my own. To quote Stimpy....Joooooyyy....
OKie guys and gals, for my first post to this (there will be many more to come) I guess I'll catch everyone up on one of my projects in progress.
Some of you may know I've been working on some re- 'sKiNz' of svösh's Bastila Robes and Juhani's Sanctuary Threads (with permission of course).
Juhani's progress is slow, I've run into some snags that will take me a pixel to pixel fix...so I'm holding off on screenies for a bit...but
Bastila is mostly done! I've been re-touching her all day today ...err... her PIC all day , taking breaks in between the little costumed beggars. My first attempts were rather 'revealing' so I've toned it down a bit (bit being the keyword)...I've also re-toned some of the flesh tones, fiddled with alpha channels, re-textured parts of her back shirt and added a "stirrup"? down the leg joing the boots to her hips.
Unfortunately because her envmap has to be changed to CM_Baremetal (transparency probs, another thread in itself) her skin has a slight 'sheen'. Not too disturbing, but you can tell. She wears hose OK?!?
Check'em out! and please feel free to give feedback, critiques, suggestions...even a "these rub" (but I'm not going to take it seriously unless you suggest something to "un-rub" them)...
Each pic is apx 80kb. I tried to keep the size down without too much sacrificing of quality (the 1024x768's are amazing if I do say so myself, of course they're 2.25megs each )...
::EDIT:: (removed screenshot links) 1-16-05
p.s. the "re-sKiNz" term was ALL svösh...I'm blatantly 'stealing' the term
Also, without using svösh's original skins for a base...these wouldn't have been half as good. Thanks svösh!

Very nice ChAiNz, i like what you’ve done with them
For the alpha on Bastila , I used path’s stroked at 2 or 3 pixels on it’s own layer then I ctrl clicked the target layer thumbnail, and it was a matter of painting in the selection with paint bucket fill on a new alpha.
Juhani’s model is a bit tougher, because the way the uv map was laid out, there are fingers and other bits all over the texture map I suggest you check out this thread http://www.lucasforums.com/showthrea...hreadid=134510
Scroll down to this post
This is both 3dmodeling and Photoshop related and it is very very handy
Not only will it prevent having to load the game 50 times to see your work, progress but you can rotate around any angle and see what is not playing fair on the skin.
With the unwrapped uv map set to overlay on your texture in ps you work just on the outer edge [ bufferzone ] of the lines of the uv’s for the model, I guaranty it will cut your skinning time in half if not more.
Keep up the great work

Yeah, I noticed Most of the 'hard lines' in my alpha were anywhere from 1-3pixels. I'm amazed at how much this game stretches pixels! A 5 pixel stroke is almost a good enough size for an armband...eegadz! Had to be very careful what fell in and out of boundaries... Gotta love the pen tool and anchor points..custom selection boundaries save the day. I can be as messy as I want with them..
I was actually reading that same tid-bit this morning! I'm definitely going to try it out for Juhani. My last attemp with the reflective patterns looked like chicken scratch. I couldn't find heads or tails what wrapped to where?!? That article will definitely help Bastila's I could almost 'see' what was what, no biggie...but Juhani (or dark jedi rather) is a pain....
Glad you like them so far...the FINALS (once done) will be PM'ed to you before I post in here...unless you'd rather it be here out of convenience... just let me know. I'll probably send you the master PSD's so you can see what was done and you can fiddle with them too (again, once done). What version of PS do you have? I've got CS but I think I can save it in compatible mode (just in case)...

No need to send the masters to me, it’s cool. Do what you will to them. Just post them here when there done, I have CS as well.
About the stroke width I know ,it’s crazy when making Jolee’s gloves my first test, I made the straps and buckles but in the game they where huge and looked ridiculous. I had to scale the straps down to more then half of their size. Then remake my buckles.

Dude, I requested this (well, Bastila's default clothing, but same idea) months ago in the old requests sticky and nobody would do it. Good to see that somebody else thought of it too! They look awesome, I can't wait for you to release them.

Leia Slave Outfit, right? This is probably as close as I personally will get to skinning that. Just getting the flesh tones for this skin was enough of a pain (NOT a hue/saturation adjustment). Not to mention having to 'design' Leia's outfit. Maybe one day, but I've other projects I want to do. BUT, I hope you'll enjoy this one!
Thanks for the input so far everyone! Glad you like'em!
Another question, would anyone be interested in this being released as PC playable armor/robes (female of course). I'd have to ask svösh because it turns into something entirely different than a re-skin, but if there's interest I can work on the 3 types of skin tones...(which IS a hue/saturation thing)...just to clarify from what I said earlier...
Scratch that idea, or you'll never get them...it'd take me forever and a day to reskin all the different clothes variations...bleh. I can, however, make these robes a little buffed up (just as svösh had done). The ones in the pics are actually upgradeable

No, it was back in the old requests thread. And I was much more annoying about it because at the time I had no idea how hard it would be to do.

Cool mods, but wouldn't the jedi punish Bastilla or something for wearing outfits with exposed skin? lol.

Actually, I'd want to punish her for those long, boring lectures about the dark side. *no more lectures Bastilla! no more lectures!*

svösh re-sKiNz, part 2of2, Juhani
The Juhani Project
The second (and final) stage of my svösh re-sKiNz is coming along. Below are some sneak peeks. MANY small details, but try not to strain too hard looking for them. The patterns are "hidden reflective", meaning in game depending on the angle and light available...different patterns can be seen! Nifty huh? Let me know if ya' want changes, likes/dislikes etc. ENJOY!
::EDIT:: (removed screenshot links) 1-16-05
** This is one problem I'm having...she's a little 'cockeyed'?? I think I may have to knudge her eye around the skin till it gets centered, but because the way it wraps....it's going to take awhile.. (yes I'm using your un-wrap trick Master svösh )
anyone with pointers on this??

dude where did you get those cool sabers for her. they look thin and wide more like an actual sword. or is that just an effect of the screenshots thatyou have.
Oh and she looks cool, I must say I'm much more partial to a revealed face and hair juhani, rather than the dark jedi outfits. but she looks great.
Working so, we will learn history as a tree knows it; we will climb into shapes printed in the seed; we will become time made visible, years made fragrant; we will make of concentric memory a stem of praise; we will inhabit daylight at a trees own speed; we will be travelers who remain, patriots to this ground.

hmmmmm..... very interesting. I thought there was already a Darkside Juhani mod (or one in the works)? If anyone knows, let me know...evil thoughts abound...
Juhani won't be available quite yet. I still have more tweaking (this skin is a royal pain in the bum) and yes...some minor script work (run Darth333...run! or at least run faster than tk102)

Humm I didn’t notice that on mine… I know the texture is mirrored on the uv’s but now I think one eye on the uvmap is filliped. I can take a look and see what I can do this weekend.

ChAiNz.2da's attempt at a lightsaber model
::EDIT::
These are now available! Check out the Release Thread
Greets everyone!
Wow, it's been awhile for this thread, but I'd rather keep all of my projects in one grouping (easier for my wondering mind to find stuff)
Well, I finally took the plunge and started... (drum roll)... modeling! And of course leave it to me to pick something that wasn't simple to start with
Anywho, here's 'the skinny' for my first lightsaber model... well, my second really (I scratched my old model T7) but we'll put that particular model in the dusty old closet... hehe
I'd like some feedback, possibly some stats, color(s) preferences, maybe a name for the darn thing... anything you can think of! And before anyone asks, no... it's not meant to be a half-arse attempt at a Dooku model... the sharp angles are intentional. I wanted something different and well, I've seen svösh's WIP version and I like his model better than anything I would attempt at it
This saber uses Malak's Long-Saber model, but it will be upgradeable (I at least know how to do that). Of course, right now it's a red blade, but if there's enough "demand", I'll make it available in different colors as well (it'll be longer wait, so be warned). Also, would you want these to be the standard saber color/fills or would you want the color(s) to be a variation of the blade I used for my Revan's Longsaber (the semi-hollow, zig-zag pattern)? reference pics (pcgamemods)
It stills needs to be skinned, so I'm in the middle of looking over the UVmapping tutorials and such but I wanted to get some feedback before I started. Any changes to the model would require a new UVmap (thanks T7, for the warning), so I'd rather wait just a bit. In the meantime I took your advice T7 and am practicing on easier stuff first.
Let me know what you think! Early thanks to:
cchargin for,
1) mdlops, a fantastic & necessary modeling tool
2) The excellent Replacer Tool (and very easy to follow instructional readme for the saber model replacement)
Also, T7nowhere for his encouragement and eagerness to help a n00b modeler such as myself.
And of course, svösh for his many helpful tutorials on the subject of modeling.
Thanks to them, modeling hasn't been as daunting of a task as I had first imagined. Though I suggest anyone begining (such as me), read, read, read the many tutorials and threads available on the subject... they do help.
If *I* can do it, anyone can hehehe

i like the look of that, but the only problem i have with that sabre shape, is the fact that a curved sabre deserves a completely different fighting style, like count dooku (Darth Tyrannus)
but the tip of the hilt is sweet, maybe double bladed sabre?

Trust me my friend, if that's something we were able to fix, I definitely would... hehe
Maybe if we're lucky, TSL's different fighting styles will give them (curved sabers) some justice. Assuming the tools will allow us to port over our models. ::crosses fingers::
Double-bladed saber?...hmmm... perhaps

This is the Jedi Code a Supreme Jedi Master should follow:
There is no emotion; there is peace.
There is no ignorance; there is knowledge.
There is no passion; there is serenity.
There is no death; there is the Force.

I have to say nice. I know I would be partial to having a new lightsaber able to use all the different colors I have seriously thought about going through and making all of the new sabers out there adaptable to that. However on the flip side I love how others are also creating new sabercrystals for there model only. Which I've also been tempted to adapt into available for any hilt type.
Working so, we will learn history as a tree knows it; we will climb into shapes printed in the seed; we will become time made visible, years made fragrant; we will make of concentric memory a stem of praise; we will inhabit daylight at a trees own speed; we will be travelers who remain, patriots to this ground.
OMG I only rank 62.13018% geek or a Extreme Geek as it is referred to on the geektest at Geektest
