WIP Complete Obi-wan Pack

I've decided my next project will be a complete obi-wan model pack containing every version of obi-wan for the Star Wars movies. The reasons I'm doing this even though there are already obi-wan models out there is because #1, I was disappointed that jolts' very accurate obi-wan models were not going to be released, and #2, I wanted to do a main star wars character and really try to make the face as accurate as possible as kind of as a challenge to myself. The choice came down to do Leia or obi-wan, I've decided to do both but chose the obi-wan pack to do first for the simple reason that obi-wan reference pictures were easier to find.

When finished, this pack will contain robed and unrobed versions of episode 1 & 2 obi-wans, version 2 of my old Ben model and a "ghost" Ben Kenobi.

Here is a screenshot on what I have so far of obi-wan face. Any comments, constructive critism and helpful suggestions are welcome.

Nice work!!

As for that screenshot, I think the forehead should be a tiny weeny flatter and the nose a big more rounded. Otherwise, good start!! Good luck!!

Good start KevinCoyle.

The one thing I could suggest is to make Obi's face a bit broader. Right now, in comparison to the reference photo, the model's face is too thin.

That's great news! Really nice looking!
Once again it looks like you've captured a good resemblence.
How much deleting and reworking do you do to get the faces at this stage? I figure alot, but I was just wondering how quickly you reach a facial resemblence like that (and Old Ben's).
Thanks again for your awesome contributions

To Hellfire Jedi: I've sent you an authorization request over icq.

To nomad:

It actually doesn't take that long. I've worked out a method thats pretty quick and usually comes out fairly accurate. It's based on this guy's .tutorial on modeling heads with polys in max 4. The tutorial is directed toward making high-poly heads but I've adapted the process for low poly heads (basically less detail on the ears and the absence of meshsmooth). If you can find a straight-on portrait and side profile of the face, it usually comes out pretty good. Using editable polys instead of editable mesh makes the model more flexible. I usually don't have to delete anything because I can't get it to look right, most flaws I run in to can be repaired. I started the model last night and it took about 2 hours to get it to the point of the first screenshot I posted.

Great Models

I signed up for an account just to add to this thread -- I love the Ep IV Obi-Wan and cannot wait to see what you do with the rest.

I know you mentioned Leia, but how about Plo Koon next?

Again, GREAT WORK! 4 STARS

Plo Koon has already been worked on. Have a little patience, it should be out soon.

Work looks good so far, Kevin. Nice to see you back modeling after a little break.

Here is another update. I fixed the width of the head behind the ears and made some adjustments to the jawline. I also began a very early skin to help work out the details, it currently lacks any significant detail though.

The hair in that comparison picture is a little "poofier" when compared to the model. Try adding a bit more volume to the hair in the model.

It's coming along great, though!

Another update. I thickened the chin a bit and made the hair little poofer, though it still isn't quite right yet. Also added more detail to the skin and eyes.

Cool Guy

Great. It already looks 10 times better than Toonces (sorry mate). Will it have facial animations because if so then I have no hesitation in a quick and swift replacement.

Since obi-wan has spiked hair (jedi use gel, crazy stuff O_o) you'll probably need to model individual hair strands that come off of his head (it would look really awesome too :P).

Question Skinning?

Hey Great! Model man!

Im Realy looking forward t these Obi-wan models. he is just THE jedi.

One thing thou, i know it is a early wip skin but i cant se if it is the skin or the model. but he looks like he is whisteling, the lower lip should be further out.

also i was wondering if you had some links 2 some tutorials. on skinning? im working on a model but need some pointers.

That would be great.
of cource you other guys are welcome to post some 2.
( i know it is not a skinning, nor tutorial thread, but i was just blown away by those pictures).

Thumbs up Great WIP

Wow. Your Obi-Wan model/skin is looking cool, KevinCoyle. I can only hope I can learn to model ½ as well as you can now.

How are you going to tackle the team colours? I tried putting team colours on Al McDonalds Obi-Wan skin by tinting the jedi tunic red and blue, which worked okay, or you might make the belt on the tunic a more solid blue. I guess some places to look would be team-based games like Galactic Battlegrounds and such.

Keep it up. Once it's complete this Obi-Wan pk3 will be another on my "must download" list.

One of the features I liked in your Old Ben model was the hood/unhooded and the robed/non-robed versions of the model.

BTW: The face structure rocks like the other model, hope you didn't gave up on them!
