Movies better than Star Wars?
As much as I love Star Wars I dont see it as the greatest movie of all time. If theres any movie better than Star Wars its The Lord of the Rings. But Im still a bigger fan of SW than LOTR. What films if any do you think are better than SW?
May the Force be with you...

Best Adventure Movie Ever - Empire Strikes Back
All other Star Wars movies aren't in the competition.
As I gaze up at the night sky in my own fair time, I look back down and see the devastation. This post-nuclear world. It's terrible. But at least we got Nuka-Cola, warm and flat, the drink of the post-apocalyptic civiliztion. Generation Next!

Excuse me, what did you say? "Movies better than Star Wars?"? Son't you know that that phrase is impossible in any known language? That'd be like saying that George Lucas wasn't an angel!
Seriously, I don't know. I think the Matrix trilogy is the best pure action...but best overall...heck. I don't really care...I know hat I like and don't... best is also not in my vocabulary.

You would have to be pretty specific to try to compare 2 different movies with different tales to tell. I don't think you can compare SW with some other movies because they are just too different. They each have their unique values that make them great. Compared with LOTR, I think the ESB and ROTJ are better, but ANH, TPM, and AOTC are worse. So...
ESB > ROTJ > LOTR > ANH > AOTC > TPM

Best movie of all time: Casablanca.
Even Star Wars emulated it. - Nazi Occupation of Casablanca=Stormtrooper Occupation of Mos Eisley
- Nazi Stormtroopers=Empire Stormtroopers
- Rick's Cafe Americain=the Cantina
- Rick=Han Solo
- Sam (Dooley Wilson)=Chewbacca
- Ilsa Lazlo=Princess Leia
- Major Strasser=Darth Vader
This quote: "I stick my neck out for nobody." Did Han Solo say it or did Rick?
Rick's sidekick was Sam, the piano player who chose to follow Rick no matter where he went. It was as if he owed Rick a "life debt!"
Casablanca is the GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME! Go rent it. Better yet, buy it.
If you watch it, you will see familiar scenes and hear familiar lines that you've heard in a thousand movies. If you didn't know that Casablanca did it first, you would accuse Casablanca of copying all those great movies!
Besides, it's an All-Star cast! Humphrey Bogart, Claude Rains, Ingrid Bergman, and the one of a kind Peter Lorre.
The film was considered for eight Academy Awards for the year 1943, winning the Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Screenplay at the Academy Awards.

Terminator 2 hands all SW movies their asses. Pirates of the Caribbean was cooler too.

This isnt about LOTR vs SW this is about over all quality of a movie and how much you enjoy watching it. As you can see some people like Terminator or the Matrix better. I thought that LOTR was a better movie than SW plain and simple.

There are a few awful moments in LOTR though...
'What grace has given me, let it pass to him, let him be spared.'
Uh-huh. So your some kind of Christ-like figure now, eh? Why don't you just go with the bloody ring with your immortal friends. I wasn't aware that it was possible you couldn't die. Was anyone who hadn't read the book know that?
______
'Sam, Rosie knows an idiot when she sees one.'
'Does she?'
Not funny at all. Just undermines the character even more, makes Sam look annoying and pathetic.
______
The way we had perfect slimline elves and then presented the rather fat Haldir, captain of the elves in Lothlorien.
As I gaze up at the night sky in my own fair time, I look back down and see the devastation. This post-nuclear world. It's terrible. But at least we got Nuka-Cola, warm and flat, the drink of the post-apocalyptic civiliztion. Generation Next!

I wouldn't say Haldir was fat...but he had those bid, regal garmets. Anyway, he's Agent Smith! Of course he's ugly...

Any of the original Star Wars could be the greatest movie of all time for me. Nothing can compare to it in my eyes.
ps - There is a resemblance between Star Wars and Casablanca, but it is not as big as you make it sound, Skinwalker. Remember, Star Wars is based around Luke Skywalker's growth from a farmboy to a hero.

Hey.... I just said it "emulated" Casablanca.... Still, I thought the overall theme of Star Wars was about Darth Vader and his rise/fall to power. His turn to the Darkside and ultimate redemption.
The original three seemed to be about Han Solo to me though. And we all know that Han/Chewbacca = Rick/Sam!

knock knock - whos dere? ..
hmm. i dont like the story of lotr much .. hmmm. i dont like such "mystic" worlds.
a movie better than starwars? .. no.. i dont now a better space story.. PERHABS alien (without part 4) or lost in space .. but i am not sure, it's late.
i think other movies wont count here or arent comparible.
if this would be the case then i'd say the indy trilogy or from dusk til dawn.

Well, I've always said that Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eight Dimension was the best film of all time.

there are very few movies i like since i have been alive. the star wars saga has been a favorite though for some time. the terminators 1 and 2 were good. and of course the new lord of the rings saga. i used to love watching the old animated hobbit stories as a kid.
maybe it would be better to just keep it simple by genre. such as sci fi, fantasy and so on.
one of my favorite fantasy films growing up was actually conan lol. they just dont make movies like they used to we have all the special computer graphics but hardly any strong story lines. i'de say the best new movies of the millenium would be star wars and the lord of the rings.
heres a a movie i would'nt mind checking out thats comming out soon. http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/underworld/ i'm not sure how great it will be but it looks like it would be ok to watch a few times.

IMO there aren't any movies out there better then SW. I've grown up with the movies and will forever be a fan of them.......if something comes close, I really like those Matrix movies.

Replace Matrix (which I just recently saw early this month for the first time and enjoyed ALOT) with Indy and you woulda taken the words right outta my mouth
(ummm, technically, I didn't grow up with the movies, but I have always enjoyed the clips in Muppet Babies and seeing the vintage toys in antique stores )

I agree that you can't really compare ALL movies.
For instance, Harvey is one of my favourite movies.
Compare it to star wars in particular ways (action, thrills, music, fantasy-as in, how we all love to play at jedi in our minds- etc) and star wars wins hands down.
But I'd rather watch Harvey, just because it's a great movie.
Similar things could be said about "some like it hot" or "it's a wonderful life".
And I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned the bond films yet.
For me the SWs films aren't a clear winner for the title of 'best movies ever'. To tell the truth, I don't even have them on video.

You are the only other person apart from me who I have ever seen mention Some Like It Hot. I absolutely positively LOVE that film.
...
The Matrix is the only other film that deserves to be mentioned in the same breath as Star Wars imo.

Well, I liked American Wedding (American Pie 3) better than Attack of the Clones. Comparing those two is quite diffucult cause they're in different genres, but I can say something about reaching their goals / reaching their final concepts. American Wedding was a nice movie with laughter and smiles. And perhaps some afterthought. Attack of the Clones was a difficult task to make for the director, but not too bad watching. It had it good moments of good action and awe-setting scenes. But, the core/soul of the movie was very mixed and confused, and also overworked related with lack of depth. But it depends what you are looking for when watching. Piglet's Great Movie, is great story about 'basic friendship', but if it's a better movie than star wars? nah, not if your looking for action and light-saber swining. Get my point.
I can recommend watching:
Princess Mononoke, Ocean's Eleven and Legally Blonde. They're good. Reply some movies you recommend.

I feel asleep during the two towers and Sean Austin always shouting Frodo like he lost his puppy dog gets very annoying. I hope return of the king keeps me awake.
