well...yufster's thread about the skirt/trouser thing made me think about what it would be like to live in ireland...and i realized that i probably wouldn't be able to stand it.

so, i decided to make this thread. i'm sure all of us have one problem or another about something where we live. so say where you live if it's not already in your location, and then we can have a little discussion...

to see who is least likely to survive in each area. once you say where you live, say who you think would never be able to tolerate your niche of the world.

Illinois. I live in a fairly small city that is run by an evil corparation known as State Farm. The city is a dried-up wasteland of construction. There are no good places to spend money (Our mall is the worst mall ever), and all it is houses. Perfect little houses that are all excactly the same. No one could survive here. Not with all these commie basturds that call themselves State Farm.

What's this? What's this? COMPLAINING I HEAR?

Perhaps we should hear the complaint from the kid who lives in OMAHA, NEBRAKSA.

[repeated for emphasis]

OMAHA. NEBRASKA.

Go on. Take a look at the place. Think about it. WE HAVE:

1) A Zoo

2) Ernil

3) Mr.Burger

and that's it.

We also have one teenie bopper nightclub which is wretched. It is an area of shut down mills and people without jobs and missing teeth. For an excellent look into our county, read "Empire Falls" by Richard Russo. It's based on our area. It is also very cold.

Ernil shouldn't complain, he lives in a city. We live next to a biggish town which is actually where I decribed because there is even less in our town. But it's not a city, no matter how hard it tries.

Yeah, Spokane, Washington, which is the biggest - and only (if we ignore whatever is in Montana and the Dakotas... and we do) - city between Seattle and Minneapolis. The problem with that is that we get a lot of mullet people "going to the big city", which is a danger for both the eye and the driving conditions. It does, however, give you a chance to laugh at mullet heads.

Mullets...heeheehee...

Where I live is only about a half an hour by train from NYC.

...

Everyone out of state imeadatily thinks this means you go out clubbing, get into gang fights, and smoke crack.

I'm nowhere near the "riff-raff"...

My nieghborhood and MaLL are extrodinarly boring. Also most of my friends live an hour or two away.

NONE OF YOU LIVE NEAR ME!
One of the Guybrushes does, but...i don't want to stalk him.

I have a friend...lets call her "Danu"...who would be at home here.
Unfortunatly, she has NEVER played a LA game.

SAD! I wanna live in Ireland.

Take out the ranting, and you have my opinion of the place. I love my little piece o' country. I don't get out in it much, granted, but there are times (about 3 times a year) when I swear I'm a nature freak. I literally frolic around in the fields at will and pet frogs. I like fall in Maine, because it's so beautiful. I like winter in Maine because I can sometimes get out of unsavory stuff, and always have snowy pine trees outside my window under the starry sky. I like summer in Maine because it hardly ever gets into the 90s(f). I don't like spring in Maine much, but if I did, it'd be because you can make killer mud-pies up here. I live within about five minutes to everything I could possibly want.

Except the hub of the gaming industry. Maybe Shivs will go to California with me.

Alia and I live withing five minutes of some fields, a lawn-mower repair shop(the riding mower's best friend), a gym(which I haven't been to since it chnaged ownership), a bottle redemption place(whooee!! MONEY!!!!), and a college. I think thats it. All of the gas stations are further away. Of course I'll go to California. I like Monteray and north of it.

Nebraska COULD have some beautiful scenery, but I'd feel so dumb driving 30 minutes to get out to the country, just to hang with the aminals. If they were closer and more personal, I'd be all over it.

Nebraska is pretty, but Omaha locks me out of it all. Damn you, Omaha. Damn your sadistic ideas, thoughts, and places . Quit hating me!

Doesn't that depend on how fast you drive? Hehe. Anyway, it makes more sense to be very happy where you are, because there will always be shortcomings in your location. Even if a place seems perfect, you'll find something that doesn't suit you at all and perhaps wish yourself somewhere else.

Anyway, here are some pics of the field behind my house, taken at when I was in "nature mode." Sorry about the wretched quality...

Clicky.

It is pretty. In the summer. and in the winter. and fall. But Alia didn't put in any pictures of all the trashy old trailors and such. However, they is a rather spectacular Chrismas light display every yera next to the lawn mower repair shop, I shall have her take a picture of it for you.

Shiv, there's only one really trashy old trailer on this road, and we own it. The rest of them are just fair to middling. There's more trash in a city, I dare say. And a suburb would be pretty darn boring.

i live near chicago...like forty-five minutes away or whatever. my town is nice...lots of trees...but not all that great. nearly everybody is retarded or an *******. luckily i never have to put up with anyone because nobody ever comes outside. my street i would have to say is the most barren street in the whole town. the one on the other side of the block is the busiest, somehow.

Quote:
Wal-mart is our best form of entertainment.
paris hilton didn't know what wal-mart is, and now it's her favorite store. interesting. but i live near a mall...yorktown mall. it's a stupid one. i can't stand it when those people always ring bells outside of the store to get your attention so they can have money. they always ring it right when you walk up. and they don't stop. you're still walking to your car in the parking lot and they're still ringing it. once you get in they decide to stop.

anyway, yeah, i live about two minutes away from everything. jewel, blockbuster, a bunch of fast food places, wal-mart, a mall, a movie theater, my little brother's school (elementary school, two blocks away), my middle school (two blocks away), and my current high school (half-minute drive). plus college of dupage. where the president spoke. i didn't get to go, though. but whatever. i actually don't have too many complaints about where i live except for the high retardation population. i would have to say that alia would have the hardest time living here. she's too much of a genius to tolerate all of the stupidity.

But we have no trashy trailers

I find it upsetting. No one should know that much.

I don't have a pond. Well, I sort of do in our horse pasture, it gets frogs in it, but its actually a muddy drainage ditch which has taken over a much bigger area than it was originally supposed to. It is a nice little lake and i found a MASSIVE (as in abouit 5 inches long) toad in it this spring. Alia said it was gross and I should put it back, so I did. there is also a porcupine who lives in the pasture and my horse was "special" enough to walk into (luckily the spines were easy to pull out as they were not in his nose) and many deer. One there was a moose but I haven't seen it around in a while. I like the animals. And I like the fact that I can only see like 4 houses from mine. Luckily none are trailors. But I wish there was more stuff to do when one was bored. I would take pictures of my backyard, fields/woods but I have no digital camera. Maybe I'll steal Alia's for a bit.

Das- The level of stupidity around here is about as high as it gets. I'm sure we are competition for your town.

Also, the stream which Alia has a picture of is the one my school is named after. It's connected to a rather icky lake and our town dumps sewage into it. Lovely, isn't it. It would be nice too.

Edit: I almost forgot. We have many mullets around here too. hehehe

Edit (2):Sorry for all the negtivity. I like somethings about here. I loooooove summer and when the ground isn't squishy or frozen. I like greenness And I like the animals. Overall it's quite nice and there aren't many people around which can be good. Someone who is very social and doesn't like cold would not do well here.

I'm in Wauseon Ohio. Highlights: Wal-mart, Taco Bell, and, um, well there's alot of fields and cows and stuff. We used to have a drive in movie place that was like $3 to get in, but they closed when the city decided to put the new kiddie league baseball diamond with giant stadium lights straight behind the screen. Curse them all!!!!!

I live in a place where people are in various states of dying and death. The population is largely extremely old and they're not nice old people either, oh no. They're all in competition to be as old as they possibly can. So they make everybody elses lives a misery by resisting change, moaning a lot, clogging up the public transport and putting stress on the NHS.
The island shuts down somewhat out of season. The weather is changeable but invariably the wrong weather.
This place is the Isle of Wight, or should it be Isle of ****e.

Twins? No. However we did convince some rather gullible camper's once that we were sisters.... I think somene may have onse asked if we were twins but we really don't look much alike.

However, we live down the road and around the corner from each other.

It doens't get much dumber than central Maine. Except maybe parts of West Virginia, and other southern redneck places.

Lord love you! I'd live in a condition of mere existence and nothing more in either of those places. If it weren't for the immortality, I'd DIE. I shudder to think of it.

It's pathetic, really. I live in a stupid small town my entire life, and then I decide to go to college in another stupid small town. There's nothing to do here. The biggest activities would include going to a restaurant/fast food place, going to Wal-Mart before 11 p.m., or driving ten minutes to the 24-hour Super Wal-Mart!

In my hometown, though, we have:
1.) a hippy farm
2.) an elephant sanctuary
3.) the place of Meriwether Lewis's death (yeah, that's exciting)

We also used to be called the Junk Store Capital of the World! Now, despite all these magnificently stimulating things, there is absolutely nothing for anyone with youthful vigor to do. It's a goddamn retirement place.

If you can't catch on to the fact that I'm a hippy, you'll live a long terrible life.

Yep. Born and raised there, personally, Andy. I'm surprised you forgot.

I miss those days, back at my Hippy Home. Yep. Out at my old stomping grounds. In...erm...

I've never actually been to the hippy farm, but... I believe it is a farm where hippies live. I could be wrong. I always wonder what it looks like. In my head I imagine little tan huts on stilts but I'm well aware of the fact that that's very unlikely.

Hometown is: Hohenwald, TN.

Hi! My name's Alia. Well, my username is anyway. I like Monkey Island, Grim Fandango, swinging swords and eating watermelon lollipops. Despite what you might hear, I don't really have any violent propensities.
