Lightbulb Favorite murder weapon

Areseners are a bloodthirsty and violent lot. Everyone knows this. The purpose of this thread is to discuss our favorite edged weapons, and vote upon them. The bladeforms I've included in the poll are those which I consider to be the most widely popular in today's world. Picts link up in the following list for those unfamiliar with these terms...

1. Samurai sword (either katana, tachi or other)
2. Kukhri
3. Rapier
4. Saber
5. Talwar
6. Bowie knife
7. Claymore (or bastard sword)
8. Yataghan
9. Kris
10. Switchblade

My favorite? The samurai sword. Not a unique choice by any means, but it really is the most efficient and well-engineered bladeform that mankind has ever come up with.

In my opinion. Prove me wrong?

This is a little obvious. You don't see me killing with little knives, although they would do in a pinch.

EDIT: I want to add that I usually try to get out of sticky situations by using my brilliant, harmless wit.

The hammer, screwdriver, and baseball bat kill more people every year than everything else combined.

Everyone has at least two of those on hand right now....

i usually prefer other weapons and could even kill with a roll of ducttape.. but this means not i dont use err "knifes" from time to time.

chosing the samurai sword may be wise but IF i'd have the choice it would be the kukhri .. powerful and deadly..

no battle axe?????

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

besides, these are registered weapons

Katana's are my favored weapon, because of my skill with it is decent. not enough to defend against a good swordsman, but enough to get some random shmuck.

However, rapiers take finess to kill with, so they would be my second choice.

Cool Guy Hackey whack

StarWarsPhreak: For purposes of academic violent discussion, I only included weapons in the poll that ACTUALLY EXIST IN REAL LIFE. Unless you're talking about the flashlight with the plastic tube that might scare a housecat, but naught else...in which case we'll be putting you in back of the boarding party when we take the Klingon battlecruiser.

Nute: *(Looks down at the two hammers sitting by the computer and two screwdrivers stabbed into the desk.)* How did you know?

Ray: Aaaah, smart monkey! Actually, the kukhri is my favorite secondary weapon. If Gandalf popped into my living room right now and said, 'Come with me to Middle Earth and fight orcs,' I would be grabbing my kai gunto samurai sword and Assam Rifles kukhri. Both are weapons considered sacred by the soldiers who bore them in WW2; they have already seen service in war.

Rogue15: No battle axe for you. Go home and chop wood.

SuicidalX-Wing: You realize that people like you are the reason guns were invented in the first place...? Bang.

Cracken: In the hands of someone who knows how to use it...a rapier can defend quite well against the katana. It has been suggested.

Deac: I'm with you! DEATH TO ALL VENDING MACHINES!!! I think it best to choose a baseball bat for this particular exercise--mind you wrap that handle with insulating tape real good. Safety first.

Personally I like both the Rapier and the Katana (in which i agree in both parts that Cracken said)

How ever my favorate, and I think is the coolest The Flamberge or at least a Flamberge Rapier that looks just as cool.

Of course the shape of the blade doesn't help increase, or decrease in this matter, the amount of damage a flamberge can make, but still, they are just cooler

Whatever the guy attacking me is using. It's so much more satisfying to screw them over when they attacked with a weapon.

But if I had to pick, I'd say a switch. Easy to hide, easy to get rid of, easy to obtain. Plus it provides more of a challenge than just standing four feet back and cutting some guy up from a distance. I want some hand to hand baby, yea.

Thumbs up

My weapon of choice would be a staff/sword. Basically It's a walking staff with a sword hidden inside, the head of the staff being the sword handle. It was used in Victorian England. Someone was about to mug you, you uncrew your cane, pull the sword out (the other half of the cane acts as the sheath) and slash away. Pretty cool way of concealing a weapon if you ask me.

Cool Guy Anduril?

Jango: Numenor.

Screwkie: No
flamberge for you. Kris or rapier, no middle ground. Perhaps I should have added a bat'leth to the poll; they are 100% real (though silly) weapons...

Nitrous: A tanto is merely the dagger-sized version of the samurai sword; your pick is covered under that option of the poll. Relax, you're *cool.*

Sexwing: (like that one?) What is this 'Saracen' sword? I have not yet encountered this description. Elaborate, please.

Well, looks like samurai swords are winning the poll; so far the samurai sword is the most popular bladeform in the modern world.

Who woulda guessed?

The Saracen Sword was used by the Saracens against the Crusaders during well, the Crusades. If you watch the movie Robin Hood with Kevin Costner and Morgan Freeman, the character Azeem (Morgan Freeman) uses a Saracen, which Robin got from one of the guards in the prison at the begining. The curved sword.
