Star Wars (OT) DVD in November? Similar set to Indy!
Just read this on TFn:

BIG NEWS: Classic SW DVD Details
Fri, Jan 23, 04 01:29:26 AM EST
We're hearing rumblings this week about the Classic Trilogy DVDs coming next fall. Here's some details floating around the net these days:
In November 2004 we'll see the Original Trilogy on DVD! There probably won't be any added scenes, simply the 3 Special Edition films along with with a bonus 4th disk. Basically they're going to take the Indy trilogy to use as a model.
Also included will be Episode 3 teaser material!
The Indy boxed set just became the best selling boxed set ever. They expect SW to take that title, later this year. No news of any 6 DVD boxed sets or the classic versions of the film.
|
This sounds fairly likely to me - Lucas seemed to like the Indy DVD format, and it would make sense to have a similar set for Star Wars.
I wouldn't be surprised if we got some super uber set in a couple of years time - with all 6 movies, suped up and a load of extra material.

Yeha, I reckon Lucas would probably wait til all the films were finished and done before adding anything extra into the story (like deleted/enhanced scenes).
Still, that's great news if it is indeed true (sounds pretty solid to me). Something to look foward to at the end of the year ^^

well, bugger that, Im not going to fork out for a 'skin and bones' set at the end of this year, and then wait and PAY AGAIN for the super duper editions..... same goes with for when ROTK comes out, it has already been confirmed that 2005 will see an commemorative LOTR box set with all 3 EEs with even more extra footage.... !

I'm not too bothered if George Lucas exploits me anymore than he already has; I mean he has got me to already got to pay for 3 trilogies on video, their soundtracks, the prequel videos and DVDs, countless posters, magazines and to top it all off I have the same Video Game for two formats so I most probably will be buying the 3 set box for the OT aswell as Episode III seperatley on DVD and on Video, and the Clone War cartoons.
I only bought a GameCube so I could play Rouge Leader.
I can assure you I will also be the first to buy the uber 6 episode DVD Boxset and I doubt that will be the end of it .

You can't blame George Lucas if you are a victim of capitalism - even though he is bourgeois scum

Yeah, I'll be first in line at my local video store.
Mind you, if any of you guys and gals know what my collection is like, then that won't surprise you in the least. Hell, I've already got the laserdisc-rips of the OT- Original and Special Ed's- on DVD. And my video collection is somewhat... extensive
Roll on November

The Star Wars Trilogy
Publisher: Fox/LucasFilm
Publication Date: September is the rumored month
The Pitch: Finally, after a long, long time…
Why it's Going to Rock: After a lot of haggling, nagging, haranguing and pestering, George Lucas seems to have finally gotten the message. The original word was he would wait to do the original trilogy after the third film was released, which is in 2005. No one wanted to wait that long, and apparently, neither did Lucas.
These three films won't be the originals we saw in theaters in 1977, 1980 and 1983. Nor will they be the Special Editions released in 1997, which featured the hated scene with Greedo shooting Han Solo first. Supposedly this new version will have Han shooting first again, but a whole bunch of new effects, including the light saber fight between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. We shall see, George, we shall see.
|
Which seems to contradict the other report that it is just the special editions. Seems like it MIGHT be yet another THIRD edition of the films, but seem likely that whatever version it is it WILL be november.
Han shooting First: Yay!
CGI obi-wan: boo!
Playing: Link to the Past, Astroboy, Kario Kart, Mario World (Micro) KOTOR 2: Sith Lords (Xbox) Morrowind (PC)

i don't think anyone knows what GL is going to do... hell, GL probably doesn't know what he's going to do.
in one interview GL said that there wont be any changes... and in another he said they will be.
until there’s an official announcement made i don't think we'll find out.

It would be great if Han shot first again, it gave him a bit of a dangerous edge that completed his smuggler persona admirably. As for an amped-up lightsaber fight between Obi Wan and Darth Vader...I'm keeping my fingers crossed in hoping they pull it off in the right way.
I wouldn't mind a bit more elaborate swings and blocks, but I don't want to see Old Ben flipping over Vader's head and doing cartwheels. It just wouldn't seem right for an old man to move like he's still in his early '30s. It's fine for Yoda, (and it was fun to see in Ep II) but classic trilogy Obi Wan is just too classy to do something like that.
