What is the counter to this?
There is a saberist who only uses red forward attack. They use it, and step back a step during the combo and then run forward again on their second slash. It is extremley effective and they can usually avoid blue upper cuts. How would you counter this with single saber? Kata's do not work either.

He must be using the red DFA move, just sidestep and it leaves their back exposed to danger, so hit em with ur saber.
Thats what everyone does back in the JO days.

It's not DFA.. It's basically hit and run red forward. Very effective, but IMO side slashes are superior.

Vertical slashing is a rather difficult tactic to undertake.

Just pick the best saberist in your clan, and ask him to beat the fella.
Its quite easy to dodge that attack if you're paying attention.
With staff i just play hero, even when my opponent is swing (red stance) i go infront of him and spam the fan move

can you saber throw?
when they're attacking, they're vulnerable to throws, and that takes 30 damage off them.

If it's "no force saber only", they probably can't hurt you from the distance. Maybe retreat to a narrow place or close to an obstacle, and when they close in, force them against a wall?
You might also try red DFA as they retreat; if they are too busy timing their moves, they may forget to sidestep and this should kill them right away; otherwise they'll probably hit you right from above...

Yes, but with staff you need to turn off 1 blade first. But im not those people who play with throws.
