Its only like 100 pages long, and basically aimed at 10 year olds. can understand people finding LOTR hard work until they get into it, but the hobbitt?????

Harry potter is overrated, but that doesn't mean it is bad. It is actually pretty good when you try it (except the 2nd one), but there are better books like the "His Dark Materials" trilogy.

Ocarina of Time is the best game ever. I bought my GC for windwaker (which is a bit overrated), but now im just playing OOT. a 6 year old game that is still better than almost anything out there.

Busted. - Not just overrated but deserving of a slow, painful death a they disolve over years in a sarlaac's belly. ANyone have a sarlaac i can borrow????

The hobbit was too discriptive and frankly his style of writing didn't interest me in the slightest. I tried to hang in there but I really couldn't get into it. The man needs to cut to the point and quit trying to fluff it up.

As for Harry Potter I loved the last book and the fourth book to pieces. Its an easy read and I love how the author writes. She is descriptive yet doesn't need to fill 500 pages of fluff to describe her charectors.

The Hobbit was too descriptive?!?!?

You should read other books by Tolkien - hell, The Silmarillion has a page which is just a list of names.

Then try reading some of the great literary master works. Go and read Paradise Lost and then tell me that The Hobbit is too descriptive...

Guys we're in here to state what we believe is overrated, just because soembody else thinks something that you dedicate your life to is overrated doesnt mean you need to get your panties in a wad over it. People have different opinions, get over it.

White girls are overrated.

Messageboard sigs are overrated.

Parts of college is overrated.

Almost anything on MTV is overrated.

Just for future reference IG...there's no reason to quote his entire post if you're just going to basically quote it verbatim in YOUR post.

And I just have to point out....there is no way in hell curling is overrated as far as I can see. I dont know ANYONE who even thinks it's remotely entertaining..

Curling | More popular in norway...
Capitalism | i dont see what you mean here
George Lucas|His recent work has been overrated, he was better before
St Anger | The newest metallica album
Arwen | The movie poster and credits, which place her above Miranda Otto (Eowyn), Orlando Bloom (Legolas), John Rhys-Davies (Gimli), Billy Boyd (Pippin), Dominic Monaghan (Merry), Sean Astin (Sam), my FotR poster even places Liv Tyler above Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn)! And she wasnt even supposed to be there!!! (ok, for maybe 3 minutes in FotR...)
Glad to see that you agree at the other points

[EDIT] didnt see your post ET

one harry potter book is about 6 times the length of the hobbit...

ahem, anyway:

The Wheel of Time - Talk about over-descriptive, try these books.
10 books at 1000pages each and nothing has actually happened for about the last 4 books. Book 10 was about 900 pages and the only action in the whole book was in the last 5 pages.

Matrix Sigs - like everyone else hasn't got one, makes a page take 9 hrs to download.

By the Way - confused as to why everyone likes this as it is by far the worst chili peppers album ever.

Sorry. I hated it.

The storyline sucked. The action was few and far between and what fights there were were too scripted and far too unbelievable. I nearly fell asleep during the first half of the film out of boredom. There was supposedly no emotion and yet I saw too many examples of people smiling etc. The fight at the end was extremely disapointing. It was trying to be The Matrix too hard, just like The One. I just thought it sucked big time.

Methinks this thread is becoming more of a "have a whinge about somethin" thread than what one thinks is overrated....the two things are different, but at the basest form of interpretation seem to play out the same, as they are here......

For example, getting on here and saying "The Hobbit is overrated because it is too descriptive" is just nonsense. The Hobbit is a kids story(9-12s was the target audience), and in relation to Tolkiens other works does play like a kids storybook(which is the intention I believe!) In this example anyway, and perhaps in many, just saying something is "not my cup of tea" is more accurate.....

eg. I personally dont like those military FPS games. But I hardly would say they're overrated. I'm sure they can be quite complex and challenging....but Im just not into them(and havent played many), so all I am really entitled or qualified to say is "Im not really into it", rather than I think they're overrated

at the end of the day :

You can't underrate(namely, evaluate the merit) of something you don't really know about or understand in any depth

just had to get that of my chest kids, sorry

Vader's wife was very pregnant when she died 19 years ago. All of a sudden a 19 year old who is very strong in the force and has a distinct resembalance to him in his younger days rolls in from Vader's home planet with his old Master Obi-Wan (Who was the ONLY other person preset at the time his wife died. And to boot, the kid's last name is Skywalker.

So in answer to your question, he knew Luke was his son because his name is Darth Vader, and not Darth Retard.
