Post WIP: Biker Scout & Blaster

HI All,

Here's a couple of screens of the Biker Scout model & the Biker Scout Blaster* I've been working on.
These are to complement the recently released Speeder Bike that Duncan_10158 and I did.
Keshire has done some initial weighting on the player model and now Duncan_10158 is doing some more work on it (When/If he gets a chance in between the huge number of other projects he has going)!!!!!

*Really hard to find DECENT reference pix of this. Most of the ones I've found are kind of home-made reproductions that don't do the original justice!

Wow, those are great!

People who sin say this: They had to, to survive. People who sin say this: It's too late now to stop. The shadow called Sin dogs them steadily from behind, without a word. Remorse and Agony are repeated, to finally end up at Despair. But sinners don't know that if they turn around, there is a light... a light which keeps shining on them ever so warmly. A light that will never fade.

I think the biggest problem I've had working on these is the disparity between the various reference sources I've been using.
One reference will say "x" goes here while another will say "x" goes over there!!!

Post In-Game Screens

Duncan_10158 has done some great work tweaking what Keshire has done and now the scout is in game and looks pretty good.
(Still have to do a player icon for him though.)
Does he need a shader for his armour?
Any decent screens of the gun would be very handy - especially BOTH sides of the gun.

Question

I have to check with Duncan_10158 first to see if this is ready to release but I was wondering if you'd like me to just release the player model, or would you rather wait for me to finish the blaster and release it with the Scout?

Also as I asked before - does it need a shader for the armor?

Thx for the pix Scouttrooper

i suggest releasing both the scout and blaster together, just so that you add an extra "punch" to the whole deal

great work btw, im glad this guy is finally gonna be put into JA

You could try using the Jedi Academy's Stormtrooper shader, this:
  • models/players/stormtrooper/armor
    {
    cull twosided
    {
    map models/players/stormtrooper/armor
    blendFunc GL_ONE GL_ZERO
    rgbGen lightingDiffuse

Of all of the models here in the Showcase forums this is the one I am most excited about. It looks great, I am greedy and want it now but I think it would be best to release the blaster with the model. Great job as always.

OK Did team skins and a shader as well - same as Stormtrooper shader since I figure they use the same material for the armour! - It's a subtle effect though.
Also did some icons - very simple. Might do a more elaborate job later.

So really, that just leaves the blaster to finish off.

are the Black Parts of the skin just plain black ?

I think that way it looks a little weird ... it may be authentic but it just doesn't look that good.
The Skin itself rocks just those black parts bother me .. couldn't you give them a less dark black or add some wrinkles to the cloth?

Keep it up the Scout seems to b near to completition ... and therefore ready to release

Found some blueprints of the old Kenner toy!!!
Pity I didn't have them when I was modeling the gun!
Never mind.
Well, the texturing is about 90% done. It's kinda hard since most of the detailing on the gun comes from its shape. There is very little detail on the actual surface of the model.
So will get on to getting it in game this weekend some time.

As far as the scout trooper skin and the black bits - in the movie you never really see any detail in those areas, so I've just kept them as fairly flat black.
Still, I'll include the blank template with the model, so anyone who wants to do a reskin can feel free.

When I get a millisecond, I'll see about adding some more detail to the black areas and to the boots, as well as more colour in the team skins.

I'm really busy with my Siege map, so if anyone can give me a hand to turn the gun into an in game weapon, that would be cool, other wise I'll try and get to it later this week.

On a completely different note - I just bought the ultra cool Durge clone wars action figure (Which is a zillion time neater than the f**ed up non-toon one they released earlier).
I know the clone wars team are doing a toon version. Any one working on Durge?

Let's hope I can get the gun to work!
