Imperial Navy Trooper

Just thought I'd throw this out there for those whom haven't seen it yet.
I've been working on the Naval Trooper for a while now and am getting close
to having the modeling part completed.

The LOD's are all finished and a majority of the textures are as well. I didn't
cut his poly-count down as far as I did with the Stormtrooper, but I figured that
it was close enough.

LOD-0 sits around to 3100 while down at the bottom LOD-3 rests at just under 800

I even went ahead and textured the inside of the helmet, even though you'll
never actually see it in game.

One more update to the Imperial Officer model I've been waiting to get done is
updating the texture for the boot. here's an image of how the boot should
end up looking on both of the models.

Hopefully this one will get finished more quickly than my last project. I may
end up needing someone experienced to weight him for me. I still haven't
gotten the Imperial Officer back, and I would rather not wait as long with
this model, as I have with that one,...

The skinning the underside of the helmet and boot shows signs of compulsiveness . Or diligence. But who can tell the difference now-a-days.

While it isn't 100% accurate, as I created most of the details from memory before compairing it to real prop photos, I think that you'll find that the model is very closely proportionate when compared to the actual helmet.

I'm leaning towards compulsion,... I've never been all that diligent.

That is very nice, your LOD's look perfect. Honestly, I can't think of anymore texturing or modeling you need to do, it looks perfect. Great job.

hrm how will you make the inside of the helmet visible ingame?

Let the helmet fly of instead of the head when chopped by a saber?

Hey Hap! I have to say that is incredible skin work! Personally I dont have a problem with the helmet. I think making it slightly larger makes him more interesting. It never hurts to exagurate things a bit. Anyhow, I think detailing the helmet the way you have makes this model truly accurate, so what if you cant see it. Just knowing those details are there make the model more believable. Excellent job, Sincerely Mars Marshall (NeoMarz1)

Dude!! You are like, totally awesome!!

This is looking sweet!! I am a big fan of your improvements and models. I downloaded you Sandtrooper and your remade Stormtrooper!! I'll definitely download this!!

Es muy, muy, muy bueno!!

The inner detailing of the helmet just shows how hard-working you are (diligent, for the more advanced vocabulary people).

Es muy, muy, muy bueno!!

Keep it up man!! You have some awesome models!!

I like that idea. I had the same idea with the Imperial Officer and Rebel Trooper, too.

well it's not a brand new idea since Cheshire already used it on his Vader model.

But I like that feature and I think it should be applied to more custom models.

That's not a bad idea,... I hadn't really given it a lot of thought. I originally
textured it just so that it wouldn't be a plain solid color, I never planned
on actually being able to see it.

I'll have to look into that.

If I were to do something along those lines, I'd need to go in and model the
other half of his head. And then, there's the floating chin strap which might
look a little odd on the severed helmet. Unless there's a way to make the
chin strap disapear when it happens. I think the wrists on the JO models do
something similar, but I'm not sure if it was done intentionally.

Yeah, It's been just over a year now. It's kind of hard to believe it's been that long. What's even harder to believe is how I got on the team with how little I actually knew about modeling.

No, he sent the Imperial Officer to Infinity Blade to be weighted. So while he's waiting to get the officer back, he's getting the Imperial Navy Trooper ready for weighting. Just be patient.

Because that's my thing,...

TK-8252 basically explained the situation.

The NT model was started after I had finished the Imperial Officer. Most of the parts of the officer became the Navy Trooper, the torso, arms, head, hips, and legs are virtually identical. The only real changes were made to the top of the boots, gloves, and then finally the helmet was added. The textures themselves are alterations of the officer as well, with the helmet being the only completely new one.

That's primarily why the NT model went so fast. Since most of the work had been already done, even with the LODs, getting through it was a breeze.

I guess that really depends on where you go for your answer.

The first name associated with them was Death Squad Commander. In the Dark Forces games, they were referred to as Imperial Commandos. And, if you go to the Official Star Wars site, they're listed as Imperial Navy Troopers.

Out of these three names, only the Navy Trooper really seems to fit. The appear to be primarily for security, as guards onboard fleet ships and at Imperial installations, but not limited to. They are never seen on the front lines as any part of a fighting force, so the title commando is hardly fitting. And while the 'Death Squad Commander' title may sound "cool", since these soldiers are never seen to be in charge of any other troops, it doesn't really work either.

The second most accepted name is "Death Star Trooper." Even in the Star Wars Visual Dictionary they're called Death Star Troopers. But, there's actually a reason behind this:

Death Star Troopers were first picked by Grand Moff Tarkin to be guards onboard the first Death Star. Then after the Battle of Yavin, the Death Star Trooper ranks were expanded to become Imperial Navy Troopers. These new troopers would have similar duties, such as guarding Imperial installations, technicians, even picking up the latest officer choked by Vader.

Not really a request thread but how about you do a 'marauders' model for that ewok movie?
All I could find is a pick of the old man Terak, though I remember that the adverage marauder look like a member of dinzig or type o negative or something...
