Ewen McGregor is brilliant as Obi. In Episode 1 he seemed iffy but that was cause he was still very young and didn't really resemble the Obi we knew in the OT. But in Episode 2. Damn, he was so kickass XD

If there were any screwups in casting I dont think that it was Ewan. If anyone it was Hayden Christensen.

Don't think he screwed up on Ewan as Obi-wan. Heck, the first time I heard Ewan speak as Obi-wan I was impressed by the work he'd done in even trying to sound like Sir Alec Guiness (albeit a younger version). As for Hayden, I think it's a little early to tell. I'll wait to see how he performs when the Dark Side has consumed his character a bit more.

No voice acting can compare to the voice of James Earl Jones, now that is a kick ass voice.

Nope, he didn't screw up. Ewan's a good actor, and looks like Obi-Wan except for the fact that he has a beard, which is normal for his age. Don't believe me, try imagining Ewan without the beard. Looks just like the young Obi-Wan.

Eh? Don't need to try to imagine, as he was beardless throughout Phantom Menace. Then again, Sir Alec Guiness was bearded throughout the entire OT, so I'm trying to figure out the need to see Ewan beardless anyway.

the beard's appearance in EP2 is exactly what is needed to help tie-in young obi-wan with obi-wan the elder. if a beard didn't show up in the prequels, we'd be like Oh hey, look, Obi-Wan grew some facial hair ... because you NEED that in the desert

of course, I mean, you need it to keep sand off the lower part of your face and all.
Nah Ewan was excellent as young Obi. I think anyone else and it might have been sucktastic.

on the subject of obi's beard, the only thing i didn't like is how in ep II half the time it was real and the other half it was fake...
real beard
fake beard
probably cause by the time they did the 'pick-up' shot ewan shaved the real one off so they had to stick on on.

well qui-gon discovered anakin and then made obi-wan promise to train him, even though obi-wan knew anakin was dangerous.
i guess GL decided that if it was obi-wan that found anakin and trained him willingly, it would be too similar to obi-wan and luke in ANH.

Maybe because the character is a whiny kid. So in that sense, it is good acting.
The casting is fine. The directing needs some work. Ewan is the best of the bunch though...

In Episode 1, Ewen McGregor looked like Ewen McGregor playing a young Obi.
But in Episode 2 it wasn't like that at all. He looked so different it was more like Obi playing Ewen McGregor playing Obi XD

I think Ewan Mcgregor was trying to hard to be Alec Guinness and not hard enough at being OBI-Wan
Some of Ewan`s EP I+II scenes were disturbingly wooden, IMO !

Hate to break it to ya, but Alec Guiness is the model for Obi. If you can be like Alec, you can play a great Obi.

You`re missing the point, I said he`s "TRYING" to be like AG, that alone is an impossible task. I don`t recall Alec having any "wooden scenes" in the original trilogy, but Ewan had a few.
Maybe it was bad directing

I think perception may be key here, I mean, I for one thought Ewan was brilliant in ep2 and very decent in ep1.

Ewen has a much bigger part in the PT than Alec did in the OT and certainly a lot more action than Alec saw. Give the guy credit. It's one of the toughest roles to fill and there's no one better to play Obi-wan.
If you're so sure Ewen was a bad choice then who would you cast as Obi then?

Ewan fit the part very well in my estimation. only casting screwups I saw were for ani (not hayden whom i think does his job well and lives across the hall from some very cool people i know).
but i never expected a perfect cast for a young kid. i mean lets face it kids will NEVER be able to be convincing at that age.

Well, on the Phantom Menace DVD, of the 3 finalists Jake was the obvious choice, at least from the footage they showed.

indeed. He was the best pick of the final three they had. So after seeing that, I figured... it coulda been worse.

Ewan was a brilliant Obi. Who disagrees deserves to be tortured and executed between the little electric-beam thing on the back of a pod racer (see bannah )

Personally I think Ewan plays the only likable guy in the prequels. He adds some personality to the obi wan persona.

ewan was a very good obi
as far as hayden acting like a whiny kid, I dont like it either, but just look at Luke (must be genetic).
also, i think jake lloyd did his job very well also
the only possible mistake is hayden
