The Jedi Temple WON'T get blown up..

because, in the mother of all ****ups, in the new dvds, the jedi temple is shown standing mighty and tall in the new ending victory sequence at the end of ROTJ (as well as the Senate building that I thought got demolished and replaced with the Imperial Palace)

Has GL gone mad, is his memory going, or does he just hope that no-one will be sad enough to notice these small deatils?

We can only wait....

Personaly, I think it's the kind of thing Sidious would keep as a sort of trophy. Maybe for something like his 'get away home', or just a reminder that HE wiped out the jedi knights, it would fit his character arch if that makes any sence. & was it ever confirmed that the temple gets destroyed, because I can't seem to remember any spoiler stating anything like that. I do remember a lot of speculation on it, but nothing more.

Hope this makes some kind of sence.....just woke up.

nah I hasn't been (that I know of anyway) confirmed, not really something you can comfirm cause not like people are going to notice the temple missing, seeing as its not real and stuff lol

but anyway, its just alot of rumours about how the purge will be shown, will the jed-lets (the kids) get killed on screen or blown up or whateva, but I guess we can rule out it getting blown up

I didn't catch the temple are you sure? I'll check again but if true then that is an interesting observation. Perhaps there is something in there he wants/needs to find?

maybe he's an ugly misunderstood midget?

I dunno, I always figured they'd show anakin hacking away at the grown jedi and just let you hear him hack away at the little children.

the jedi temple being blown up was just a rumour. which I guess has been put to rest by GL putting it in ROTJ.

and i don't think we'll see vader killing the jedi kiddies on screen. it will probably just besuggested someway, for insistence...

“we have to save the children!”

“too late, it is”

I think when Anakin was telling Padme about how he slaughtered the sand people was all that you needed to hear. He did say he killed the women and children so you don't really need any more than that to figure out what unseen things he'll do in and around RotS.

Harsh? Nah, not at all. It'll be ok Talor. What you had written before you edited it was, well, goofy to put it in terms you might understand. But that's ok man. We all do stuff like that every once and a while. I'm new here myself, but just think before you post.

Who is to say that Palpatine would destroy the Jedi Temple? He doesnt need to ruin a perfect trophy, he just needed to rid himself of its inhabitants, which he left for Vader and his army to do the grunt work.

Let's think about it. Would he want to destroy it? Not at all. It would have to many political ramifications. The Jedi were the protectors of the Republic for 1000 generations (Ben Kenobi, ANH) and they commanded a lot of respect from many beings throughout the galaxy. Destroying the Jedi temple might have rallied people against him. Maybe, maybe not. What it would do would be to show that he had a hatred towards them if he destroyed it for no reason. That would make people suspicious because I don't think that he reveals himself as being a Sith and possibly as even being a Force user to the general public. Now Vader does. When Vader reveals to Tarkin in the first Death Star that he felt the presence of Obi-Wan, Tarkin says the Obi is surely dead and that Vader is the last of the ancient religion. If the people knew he was a Sith they might start to hate him and revolt, so keeping his dark powers a secret is to his advantage. Not destroying the Temple might be a calculated move on his part.

Do you think that I have over thought this any?

I read somewhere that in the beginning, when Palpatine was only just Emperor, people saw it as freedom compared to the corrupted senate. However, i believe i got this from a pretty outdated source (The pre-prequel kind of outdated) so perhaps i'm wrong...

Anyway, if he would destroy a building for no eason, just when people liked him, i'm sure it'd raise suspicion.

He is Sith and Sith hate the Jedi, that is why hes gone through this little plan of his to become emperor and he wants them completely destroyed and with vaders help he does this. So if he has them all killed, whats to stop him from blowing up their temple, which would forever remind people of the jedi, who would stand for freedom and hope and etc etc. But I am surprised that it took Palpy about 20 years to dissolve the senate (as is said in Ep I by Tarkin)

He craves power, what better way to show that but to display a conquered Jedi Temple intact with no Jedi. One of the many trophies he collected. Sometimes keeping your enemies treasures for yourself is greater than destroying them.

See, the thing with Palpatine is that even in ANH, they(SENATE) are still unaware of his evil, sith-based intentions. I am sure ROTS will further explain how the Senate is allowed to just sit by and let the Jedi become exstinct from either the Sith Lord Vader, or in their eyes, supposed Bounty Hunters after Palpatine made a ploy that the Jedi, not the Senate, had become corrupt and were seeking power to their own agenda.

I agree Andy. Palpy will most likely accuse the Jedi of being the source of power behind the separatists. He will probably make it look like Dooku, being a former Jedi himself, was still working for the Jedi, leading the revolt in an effort to conquer the galaxy. And if General Grievous is Sifo-Dyas like many speculate that to will add to the speculation that the Jedi are behind the Confederate revolution.

so are you implying that sidious won't reveal himself to the people? so, he will reveal himself to the jedi, but not the people.... won't they notice that he's not giving back his all powerful-powers that he would "lay down when the crises is over"??

There is probably an unrevealed plotline that will explain how Palpatine becomes Emperor and why the people arent breaking down his door, wanting him to give up his Emergency powers.

Ockniel, to answer your question. Yes. If he reveals himself to the people then they would surely rebel, I would think, or maybe not. All he cares about is that he gets control and can hold on to it until the day he dies, that is all that matters. If the Empire lasts after that is of no concern to him because he would be dead. The people knowing that he is an evil Dark side of the Force user would be a bad thing I'm sure. I would venture that a lot of people have a slight mistrust of the Jedi as it is anyway. Think about, here is an elite group of people that "enforce" the law and will of the republic, a secret opps kind of group with super powers that you can't get. They can move things with their minds, have super reflexes, can see into the future, have super speed, heal, fight with laser swords light nobody else can and they can influence the weak minded. Not to mention they are of a deeply devote religious sect. These attributes could be dangerous. If our government had a police force with these abilities, or there was a fanatical religious group out there with these powers we would all be vary cautious of their behavior. It is in Palpatines best interest to keep his Dark Lord identity a secret. This possible fear of the Jedi could easily be used as the reasoning to keep him in power and order the purge of the Jedi and a reason to keep the Temple as a reminder as to why they must all die and to never again be started.

he does, they do... it’s called the Rebellion (or the rebal alliance).

Quote:
The Alliance began as a union between the scattered, ragtag groups of the Resistance, and the exiled leaders and nobility of the senate. During the early days of the Empire, the Resistance had waged battles against the New Order, but lacked the galactic scope or unity to truly affect Palpatine's regime. Senators like Bail Organa of Alderaan, Garm Bel Iblis of Corellia, and Mon Mothma of Chandrila united the Resistance groups into the Alliance.
as soon as palpatine turns the republic into a dictatorship people realise he's a bad man. but it's too late, he has his army and the jedi are being kill off.

What I meant about "reveal himself" was that he doesn't reveal himself as a force user to the public. I don't even think he reveals it to his advisors like the Moffs for instance because Tarkin tells Vader that he is the last of his kind. The dictator thing is quite obvious and impossible to hide even for a Sith Lord. As for Garm Bel Iblis, it would be nice to see him, but I'm not holding my breath because he is just EU and not cannon.
