Actually, I'm unemployed, so I really don't care that they can "hire me because they have more money." Heck, technically I'm not unemployed if I'm not looking for a job.

Logic demanded otherwise. Iran would not have been a successful venture. People complain about losing a mere 1000 people in the cleanest, fastest, swiftest war ever seen upon the face of the Earth*, I'd hate to see them after what we'd have had in Iran, where the military actually would fight back. North Korea would be a PR nightmare, wherein the US would be forced to slaughter hundreds of thousands of conscripts before having to reply in kind to a NK nuclear strike.

*We've lost less than two people per day since the war began, the war ended, and during the postwar situation. For comparison, historic loss rates: Vietnam 20 US KIA per day, WWII 147 US KIA per day, the Battle of Gettysburg ~1025 US KIA per day, Battle of Marathon ~6000-7000 Persians KIA single day. Even at the rate of two KIA per day (averaged out, obviously some days there are 0 and others 4, etc), it would take 79 years to match the losses the US took in Vietnam in eight. Iran and North Korea would have been unimaginable bloodbaths to people that do not understand the logical consequences of war. The people that decry the US involvement in Iraq citing we should have gone after those two would probably be vomiting in teh streets if they realized what those wars would be like if fought if two per day pisses them off.

No. India make some pretty good movies and they're not western by any stretch. And G Gundam and Macross were pretty good.

No. I'm not.

08th MS Team was ok except they got into the weird stuff that comes as part of any Gundam series. If they'd stuck to just the unit and not all that crap with how the guy falls for the naive woman from the other side and they speculate on whatever the hell it is that they speculate on and confuse the hell out of me, it would have been good. G Gundam was forever cemented in the pantheon of awesome when 1) Schwarz Bruder made his first appearance and 2) Statue of Liberty Cannon.

You must be mistaken, because this is the Z(Zeta) Gundam.

I have a hard time even watching G-Gundam as its(In my view) Dragonball Z with Gundams. What makes it even more unbelievable is that everyone and his third world brother seems to have a multi-billion dollar piece of military hardware.

And regarding 08th MS, some of us just watch it for the realistic application of 18m mecha.

Well they did afford to build themselves massive space stations, so its not like a single robot would be out of their reach.

And out of all teh stuff in that show that was unbelievable you picked that? I guess in your world, robotic "cells" create clones of your dead brother from the body of a KIA pilot every day?

Nute, has anyone told you yet that you're actually an android? Not EVERYONE has a colony, and it isn't that big of a feat considering if NASA actually did things right, we could have colony's right now.

And it's not that it's a single robot, it's that it's a single giant robot in the hands of country's that we know can barely keep their own obsolete hand-me-down military equipment working. I mean, come on! Nepal?! Kenya?! Cuba?!

For all we know, a Gundam might cost like $120,000 which is easily in the reach of everyone that isn't Eritrea and Djibouti. Plus Kenya isn't nearly as poor as they seem. I mean they're really poor compared to the cool countries like Germany and Thailand but I'm sure if they poured all the tourist dollars from Mombassa into the production of a large combat robot they could easily acquire one.

Curse you and your wal-martish Chinese goods! Why, back in my day, military equipment was made in the USA and (like everything else) priceless. Oh, well...if it means I can get a virtual surround sound teevee/DVD combo for $130, I guess it's all good.

touche civillain zoomie, touche

as for the cost of a gundam

one could say that $120,000 could be the cost of a gundam's internals

you know, interchangable parts (ie like in Gundam wing they made some upgrades to their gundams. i think death scythe had alot more upgrades and definately the tallgise (spelling, dont care))

its gotta be the armour thats gotta cost more
i mean, what makes a 'gundam' a 'gundam' is not only the design, but the armour it has. i think the armour can only be made in zero gravity from what i heard from the story line

Cool Guy LORD civilian--!

$120,000 might pay for the paint job and cockpit stereo system for a gundam...with change left over to buy fuzzy dice for the mirror. As for making armor in zero gravity, it will currently cost you many billions of dollars putting a factory in orbit.

Stick with Russian tanks. They're well within your price range.

Pfft.

An F16 costs about $30 million. An F18 costs about $40 million. An FA-18EF(Super Hornet) costs about $60 million. An Abrams MBT costs about $4 million, and it's just 70 tons of chobham armor.
(Prices came from fas.org)

A standard UC FF-X7 Core Fighter probably would probably cost about $80 to $100+ Million in comparison to the above.

Now lets add about 35-40 tons of lunar titanium alloy and robotics to the above(Since it was a part of the RX-78-2 that were using for an example) and a Minovsky type ultracompact fusion reactor.

I'm just guessing, but i'd say we've hit somewhere about $400+ million since we don't know just how much that armor costs. And I haven't even factored in weapons(Just how much do those Beam rifles/sabers cost...?) or the standard thrusters.

Scar: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/gundamright.htm
You should really explore the UC timeline.

1. They must have changed designation systems on me. Designations now contain /s.

2. Sure. They probably use some strange currency, but that doesn't mean Kenya can actually afford anything superior to an F16(If they even have that...)

And just out of curiosity, can you even find anything about Kenya's military? I'd love a link.

You can't apply real world stuff to this situation though. In Star Wars, transit to another planet runs a couple grand, which is more than buying a starship costs. A TIE Fighter runs around 5,000 credits (A Defender type TIE is 300,000 credits and costs "five times" as much as a regular TIE). Those numbers are all crazy compared to ours. Would YOU buy an airline ticket that cost $2000 when you could just buy your own airliner for the same price? In our world, a ship like the Millenium Falcon would probably run upwards of $25m. But if credit=dollar a TIE costs $5000, I'd assume a YT-1300 several times more and is easily in the reach of a small time smuggler (Say $15,000). See how different universes get all screwy?

In the world of G Gundam, there are numerous outside factors to consider. The materials might be dirt cheap. The gundamium armor might cost $.10 a square foot. Or all the countries with colonies pooled their money when they came up with the Gundam Fight thing or whatever it was called and mutuall financed the gundams.

As far as the internet goes, there's a Kenyan military but no details are available. I think I saw a picture of a Kenyan MiG-21 once.

hey! welcome back!

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

Take profit into account here. TIEs are manufactured by the Empire directly in SW, they aren't going to be paying huge profits; most likely that figure is the base price that it costs to make the TIE fighter. Plus they're pretty basic compared to most craft. No hyperdrive, no life support, etc.

So you can't really extrapolate the price of a civilian craft from the cost of manufacturing for a TIE fighter.

(Also, it costs around 60,000, not 5,000. The number is "over" 300,000 credits, and dividing by five comes out with four zeroes not three.)

I extrapolated the price of a civilian craft from Luke's "We could almost buy our own ship for that much" line. I assumed he'd be buying something smaller than the Falcon (figure the Falcon is the space equivalent of a light box truck, like the type they use for U-Haul, Ryder, or Penske rentals). Then again, Luke sold his beater of a landspeeder for 2000 credits and claimed he got ripped off. 2000 seemed like a good deal, considering if I was looking at a car that was in that shape I wouldn't pay $300

Math is why I'm a Liberal Arts major.

OH yeah, either way a TIE is still going to cost an assload of star wars money. It IS high end military hardware, even the basic TIE. The people that wrote the EU stuff ignored how well they performed in ANH (and their apparent shields they sported).

Vader's wife was very pregnant when she died 19 years ago. All of a sudden a 19 year old who is very strong in the force and has a distinct resembalance to him in his younger days rolls in from Vader's home planet with his old Master Obi-Wan (Who was the ONLY other person preset at the time his wife died. And to boot, the kid's last name is Skywalker.

So in answer to your question, he knew Luke was his son because his name is Darth Vader, and not Darth Retard.
