Happy 3rd Anniversary, Kjølen!
Wow, I can't believe it's been 3 years. It was just like yesterday I was a meek 13 year old Guybrush-MT, all noobish and such. All the oldbies were intact and active, plenty of other noobies to go around. Good times.
There should be enough oldbies around to help me reminisce.

Oh no. Not that time, again.. Kjølen gets older, again. Memories,.. again.
I'll tell you what, K. I'll reload my Secret of Monkey Island on my Amiga-emulator just to get me some memories for you, pal. (I played MI first on my Amiga, back when it came out..)
How does that sound?

@ Ray --- That would be wonderful. What's wrong with memories? Do you remember my speech last year? (I'm a day late by the way, my anniversary was actually Dec 16th)
@Neil --- You registered in July 2001, but you didn't actually join in on the being-active until December, I guess. Or so you told me.

Hey it's my 1 and a half year anniversary in two days!!!!
I remember those days, Ray spoke in some sort of German pidgin dialect that nobody understood, Alia was called Captain Andy and I was her pimp (seriously!!!), and Thrik was just mere mortal pre moderator/super moderator/administrator - caught up in a points donating scandal......ahh the days.......so who did you sleep with to get to the top Thrik?
Going back to what Ray said about MI on the Amiga. I remember the first time I played it.....crikey must be about 15 years ago now. I obtained a (cough) copy from a friend, and thought the game was so damn good, I threw the copy in the bin and in blind admiration and respect for the programmers went out and bought an original copy for the Amiga the very next day.
Ahhhh how time flies.....

Aahhh. I remember those days. The air was clammy and Captain Andy was laying on her bed, until suddenly. And just to make that clear: everybody understood me, they just didn't know. ;D

I was like 14 or so and got Monkey Island from my parents for something like "communion". Together with an Amiga Action Replay MK III , a second disk drive and 2Mb RAM extension WHOOO. Unluckily I became ill on that (satur-)day. I even had to stay at home for a week.
[edit]
Oh, and K-J -- Thanks for that last saturday night. I nearly forgot how addictive i found LeChuck's theme to be. After playing the game through i crawled out an old TFMX player for the Amiga and listened to it the rest of the night while working on something else. Yes i know, the Scummbar has MP3s, and i've got them too, but err.. *shrug* it feels better this way. ^^

Oh yeah, I joined and then my Mother appropriately banned me from using the computer for some reason or another and I'd totally forgotten about escapemi.com until sometime in christmas of that year, which I think is about the same time as you joined (and we... for some reason... made a big thing of gaining two extra heads at relatively the same time when we went up in rank)

Neil, you're the BEST damn moderator this one horse town has ever seen......firm yet fair.....willing to bend the rules if necessary, yet willing to show a firm hand when needed. I don't understand why you haven't been upgraded to Super Mod......it really MUST be something to do with a secret society. How can Thrik - cool though he is, be promoted ahead of you? I'd bang on the bosses door sharpish for a Christmas bonus.

The system doesn't work like that, Roy.
The administrators that watch over us carefully watch the situation until a new moderator or super moderator is needed to keep things under control.
And just for an idea: mod jobs aren't as cool as they sound. You edit posts whenever someone does something bad, you close unneeded threads, and if you have the power, ban the people that are causing trouble. And THAT'S not as cool as it sounds, either.

The reason I Haven't been 'upgraded' is because I'm not as good a mod as you're making me out to be (thanks for the compliment anyway). Now i've started Uni, I'm not here as often and when i am, I tend to do what I can withou making myself out to be the bad guy to everyone, which is kind of where I fail, i try too hard to be the guy everyone likes and be a decent mod at the same time and most of the time it doesn't balance out, so you get a relatively nice guy and a mediochre (sp?) moderator.
But the system is working... mostly, so i doubt i'll change much and I'll probably still be a mod if not just an on-off patron by this time next year.

Actually, the reason you haven't been promoted is because LucasForums is run by a very corrupt bureaucracy. But anyway! Three cheers for Neil Joshi! Hip hip...!

Apropos.
You can't be the "nice guy" all the time, moderator or not. Don't even try it because it'll make you shapeless. What does nice guy mean anyways? As a moderator you'll simply have to moderate in a moderate way. Everything else makes you a looser mod.
Opinions differ, and will especially when you're going to close threads or point out "misbehaviour", the point is: are you going to make it the ******* way or will you be cool?
Oh, surely it doesn't made any sense, but hey,.. I am directly behind the last one on the list of who's next to be a mod.

You're too modest Neil. While I take on board the point about you not being around sometimes, the fact is that when you're around you're everything a moderator should be. Too many of your esteemed colleagues steam in with patronising comments like a fourteen year old who's been given the job of babysitting their seven year old brother. That's not good moderating. To be a good moderator you have to elevate yourself above the rabble to gain their respect while still being humble and respectful.
