how long does hyperspace take

how long does it take. i don't think they are going the speed of light just warping space and time so it should be pretty quick.

They're going out of normal space and going into hyperspace which I guess you can get around a lot faster in.

well, if i got things straight, they still have to steer around planets and stars and the like, but i think that has to do more with gravity than actually running into a large hunk of rock or a large hunk of fusion reactions at faster than light. that still means that hyperspace still interacts with whatever dimension star wars is based in, though.

anyways, i don't have much knowledge of star wars outside of a few novels, games, and the movies, so don't hold me to that.

thats why they don't jump hyperspace when they are in an asteroid field. so who knows what it is and how do you steer something going the speed of light and what if an object floats in the way do you get blasted into little hyper pieces

actually, they don't make the jump in an asteroid field because they are still in "normal" space while they are accellerating into hyperspace. they could easily hit something during the accelleration phase that way.

Hyperspace is a parallel dimension where mass in our dimension projects "shadows". Distances in our universe can be covered more quickly by travelling through it, although the mass shadows in hyperspace must be taken into consideration when travelling through it. Thus the need to plot a course.

Hyperdrives are rated on a class system where there is a time multiplier (x1, x2, and so on) to discribe how long it takes to get from A to B. Apparently there is a standard time required to travel a certain distance. A x1 hyperdrive can travel from A to B in the standard time. A x2 hyperdrive would take twice as long. When Han says, "she'll make .5 past lightspeed," he is refering to the fact that the Falcon has a class x0.5 hyperdrive, which is one of the fastest possible and highly illegal. So, the Falcon can get from A to B in half the time it would for a x1 hyperdrive. Thus the claim that it is the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy.

Hyperspace is also the place where us fanboys and geeks hang out.

its not just that the Falcon moves faster through hyperspace, it is more the fact that it is capable of doing better calculations, and thus plotting a much shorter course. Hence the reason he bragged about how many parsecs he made the Kessel run in, rather than the number of hours or whatever time unit.

Any1 notice how if you went faster than the speed of light you would A) transform into ether (curtesy of Albert Einsteins TOR) and B) if you crashed into a speck of dust there would be a neat little hole in the ship.

You know what I absolutly detest? I hate those long and useless signatures that say 'hey I'm bored so I decided to put this long and dull paragraph or something here to make my post look bigger'. That is why I, my dear reader, have pledged to make sure that no longer must you read a long and useless signature that you
A) want to time it and see how long it will take to scroll down and
B) must read just to get to end to avoid waking up in the middle of the night (or day, depending on if your nocturnal or not) wondering what that signature said in the end. So no longer must you suffer under the oppression that is the Evil Hand of the Signature. Soon we shall have a complete and eternal freedom from the signature. Follow me to freedom and spread this signature around the galaxy.

Unfortunately that's probably the only version of that trilogy we will ever get on DVD Not that I mind what has been changed too much but I'd still buy an "untouched" version on DVD.
