Error in Year 1 after talking to meche HELP PLEASE!

Hi everyone

My grim fandango crashes on my friends win xp computer after he gets meche from the land of the living and leaves his office after talking to her. It crashes everytime and i can't find a fix for him. It's his first time playing the game i was quite excited cuz its a good game, this whole crashing thing kinda put a damper on that though. Anyone know what to do?

And yes he has installed the updater patch.

You could try to change the compatability mode if you are running on XP!
