FIX FOR WINDOWS XP INSTALLATION PROBLEMS

to make Grim Fandango installation not crash on windows xp, you just need to make a blank text document and copy

@echo off
lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\mscdexnt.exe
lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\redir
lh %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\dosx
SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 P330 T3

and save it as autoexec.nt in c:\windows\system32\

PS Thanks com160 for this information! really helped me

I've been having random crashes with my a64/xp setup, so I wanted to look into this. Anyway, I looked at my autoexec.nt and all of those things are already there by default. Lots of REMs to explain stuff but the same exact loadhighs/set sound blaster stuff.

Unfortunately, no amount of fiddling with the autoexec file has done any good for me, though by all account it should have.

Bye bye, Grim Fandango. I'm glad I got to play you at least once.

Your autoexec file should be in a backup folder on your pc somewhere, just search for it and COPY it to the system32 folder

Thanks. I've done all that, and followed through with every fix posted here (regarding that file) and elsewhere, including rewriting it.

Nada.

The reason for my posting is that this is NOT the cure-all, and that fact should be known.
