Monkey Island 5: Return To Monkey Island
I am announcing a possible release of Monkey Island 5, titled "Return To Monkey Island". I do not work for LucasArts, and I don't know whether I will buy/lend the rights to Monkey Island, or even make it FOR LucasArts. This idea is in very early stages of development and if you could give ideas, your support and whatever else it would be greatly appreciated.

Try imdb or VoiceChasers.
Can you tell something about the engine? Would you license it? Would it be 2D or 3D?
I think asking fans for story ideas is a bad idea (EMI seemed a lot like fan fiction and sucked), but you can browse the forum and find out what we liked and disliked about previous Monkey Islands.
Do you have experience with game development?

I wonder how much extra Mr Armato received for voicing "Duck" and "Monkey 4".

I'm really not sure; my programming skills probably aren't up to it anyway, but that's not a problem - I can hire coders. The engine name is decided though: GLUE. Good idea for lisencing it out... (it may even be free & open source! (maybe :P)). I'll ask fans, but not too much. It will be 3d, but point & click (yeah... imagine that). I have no release date or even permission from LucasArts... if you can help, just contact me, It'd be appreciated.

Well, hey it's as good as made then. The engine even has a name. That's the important part.

I don't think you'll get anybody particularly enthusiastic about this until you've got something done, and can prove that you know what you're doing. There have probably been roughly 10,000 fan created Monkey Island games announced over the years which have done little more than have a long thread devoted to them with fans frantically posting what they want.

Fan game? Read it again. I'm going to get the rights/permission to use the rights, and commercially publish this game, an (un?)official sequel.

I said it was a fan created game, and that is exactly what it is at present. Until you have a deal with LucasArts that grants you the rights to what is probably their most successful adventure intellectual property and are employing a team of programmers and artists, this is no more a "proper" game than any existing Monkey Island fan game.
Simply announcing what you want to do and getting everybody excited is a completely different ball game to actually doing it, and you'll find it difficult to win people's support until you've acted upon at least some of the things you claim that you will.

Well, I'm looking forward to it. If Elliott's promising us a Monkey Island 5, then that's exactly what I expect to see. I would like it if Guybrush could transform into a dog. That is my idea.

What exactly makes you feel so confident that LucasArts will give/loan/sell you the rights. True, there not exactly doing much with it, but if they were to sell it off, they'd have done so by now, and probably to some huge development company who could actually afford to buy the rights (they'll be worth a lot).

So, say they do, where will you get the money to hire programmers and artists and story writers, designers, voice actors and the whole nine yards for this thing?

Yes. But point & click in 3d is a whole new matter. Seriously, keyboard controls + adventure games = trying to get doom 3 keyboarders to play MI. Forget them. There are more adventure gamers than you all think.

No, there really arent. Sorry, the adventure game fanbase alone isn't really enough to make ends meet with a game like this. Not these days.

That's why we revamp the whole adventure thing keeping the original at heart. Partly action based swordfighting anyone?

Oh come now, give him a bit of credit, no 15 year old or younger would be stupid enough to think they could head a major game production. 16 at the least.

It's you.
And I never said you weren't mad, just not stupid... and even then, it's only on the front that you think you could actually head up a major game production. As for the rest...

LOL! This thread holds perhaps the stupidest posts seen on the internet.
I don't work for Lucasfilm, don't know George Lucas but with your help Star Wars Episode VII will become a reality! Just email me your credit card details and I'll let you know how I get on.

This post is so wonderful............Neil Joshi the supercool voice of reason gets more than a little worked up, by our new friend Elliott, who is surely going to reveal himself as a long gone former Lucasforums member, returning with a successful windup!!
If you are serious Elliott.........please do make an adventure game.......nothing to do with Monkey Island though.....nothing 3D.......just a basic adventure game.......use something like AGS (Adventure Game Studio), and make it short - a 10-15 screen game......just to see if you can design and complete it in good time. Personally (and from experience) I reckon it'll take you about a year just to get a 3-4 screen demo together.........then you'll realise it's actually going to take you another 10 years to finish it.....and that's not 3D, and nothing up to the standards of any of the Monkey Island series.....
......and unless you're going to hire premises, interview and hire your team and pay them weekly, you'll probably be making your game alone.....either that or you'll have some like minded internet souls who drift in and out of the games design, and as there's no incentive (ie no pay, and no light at the end of the tunnell), they'll probably be somewhat unreliable.
........now if you'd said:-
"I have little game development experience, but would like to try my hand at making a simple, and short Monkey Island 1/2 style game"........everyone would probably take you seriously.........even that eternal sceptic (and cheeky bugger) Joshi!!
.......anyway cool post!!

You guys shouldn't knock Elliot. He's pioneering a fantastic new excuse scheme which I have put into practice myself today, following his lead.
Boss: We need someone to design a new template.
Me: I will design your template, and furthermore, I will paint the building in gold leaf with a single haired brush held between my toes.
Boss: I disbelieve you.
Me: And for that, I retract my offer.
Try it yourselves. Cover your incompetence with grandiose lies and trickery. Elliot, I salute you.
