when is oblivion coming out? I've seen some video footage of it and it is suhweeeeet!
And also Morrowind is a great game but I still love the look of oblivion more *drools over keyboard while madly saying 'oblivion' then realises computer goes 'bang!'*

Concidering that the FPS in Morrowind tend to drop below 20 on a regular basis (and often below 10 while in Balmora or Vivec even with low FOW setting) on my computer, which is way better than the Recommended requirements for that game, chances are Oblivion would be nearly unplayable on the Minimum requirements. (Unless they have made the Oblivion engine a lot more efficient.)
Not that this would stop me from getting the game anyway, if I become convinced it's good enough. I played KotOR1 for about a month on a computer much slower than the minimum requirements (until I bought my current one), average FPS was about 5. Rather frustrating experience, but that game was worth it.

Well I'm hoping I'll be able to upgrade my Video card before the game comes out, but even If I can't I'll suffer the low frames until I can afford to upgrade. I first played Morrowind On a 600Mgz Pentium 3, I would get about 5-8 fps in cities and 15-20 in the widerness but it was still fun.
I suspect Oblivion will be an even better game, so I'm will to suffer low pfps for a little while.
I found this video on Google video, it shows alot of great footage. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...762&q=oblivion
Its a high res video so it will take a few minutes to DL for cable users

I saw that video a few days ago. Pretty sweet.
...and the map looks big: "vierzig quadratkilometer Fläche" ! (a surface of 40 square kilometers) cool!
I'll see how it runs first but maybe I'll purchase an additional gig of ram. The recommeneded video cards requirements are pretty high too! (luckily I already took care of that part)
Edit: Here's a small teaser made by a guy at the official Oblivion forums, I thought it was funny especially if you are have seen the official videos and played morrowind:
- Large Detailed Version (7 minutes, 56 MB)
- Puny Weak Small Version (26 MB)

It would be awesome if Benestha made a game like oblivion, but in a Star Wars setting. For me, it would preferably be the Kotor era, around then.

^^^ Perhaps a TC for oblivion, you never know, the Morrowind modders were pretty resourcefull and Oblivion is supposed to have a better toolset.

Pete Hines (Vice President of PR and Marketing), gives a sneak Peek at what's going to be included in the "Collector's Edition" of Oblivion
Click here for more details on the "Fluff" version .. hehehe
http://www.elderscrolls.com/codex/te...iv_cediary.htm
One thing to note, is that Oblivion will be released on a single DVD.. Wow, I would've thought more than that, but considering pressed DVD's can hold anywhere from 4-17gb of data... niiiice... (dvd capacity determined by "sides & layers" combination.. look it up if you don't believe me.. hehehe)
though I know it's pretty much a "standard" nowadays.. better be sure you have a DVD drive on your compy

One DVD for either version. Yes, it all fits on one. Yes, it's only available on DVD for PC users. While we're on the subject, I should note that we are doing a number of localized versions for Europe. There will be fully localized versions in Germany and France. That means the whole game — voice and text — are fully translated. We are doing semi-localized versions in Italy and Spain, which means all the text (including dialogue) is translated, but the voices are in English. Hopefully that will make a lot folks very happy as I know we get asked that an awful lot, or at least I do.

It's about time more Dev's started releasing games on DVD. There really isn't any excuse not to have a dvd-rom nowadays. I wonder though how long it will take for developer's to exceed the capacity of one dvd.
Personally though I don't see the point of buying the collector's edition.

Strange, because I thought MW's toolset was really easy to use; it was easier than modding KotOR for me at least. Of course, I had a deadly love of MW, so I might have been biased.

Oh indeed.. don't get me wrong, I love their tool set (the game's).. but it's the modder's created tools such as TESTool, TESAME, TESDTK, TESPCD.. the NIF Objects renamer and the re-order plug-ins/sequencer tools were not very intuitive...(imo)
The readme's lacked a bit of "why" the things needed to be done, and there were constant "if you use me, then don't use this.. blah blah" warnings all over the place...
Once you downloaded several mods.. just to get them to work together required a little "tinkering" making sure you got your Object/Leveled Lists created.. made sure they (and your other mods) were in the right order.. and heaven forbid the modder didn't use the latest game version or game combination.. you'd then have to open them in the Construction Set, make no changes.. then save them out just to update the headers to get around all the warning messages you'd get starting the game...
I later found out that one of the tools updated headers.. but if you used it, I couldn't use the other tool that I had gotten accustomed to
I finally just sat down, used a whole day reading over forums and documentations and collected the few tools that played nice together... and now use them religously. Though if I hadn't had the patience.. I think my love for the game (and the fantastic mods it has) would've down-spiraled fast...
Not cranking down on the Morrowind Modders.. they're unbelievable at some of the things they can do..(the ones that go beyond the scope of the Construction Set) but they do have the aid of those developer's ToolSet that does 85% of the work.. Hell I made an entire House mod, Weapons Collection, 2 races & 5 Birthsigns in less than 2 days of owning the game
It's definitley easier to mod in Morrowind.. but I have a much better "satisfaction" score with my KotOR / TSL mods... alot of work has gone into each and every one (some more than others.. hehehe).
And to think, KotOR/TSL mods are only possible to have been made 100% by the blood sweat & tears of our very own Tool Makers.. they have an undying respect from me to be able to pull off what they've accomplished. Not to mention the hoards of Holowan'ers that come to the rescue of those in need.

I ignore all of this stuff...just add this line to the [General] section of your morrowind.ini file:
...next time you load the game or the CS, just click cancel when the error messages pops up
and to clean savegames, nothing beats Wrye Mash: http://home.earthlink.net/~wrye_modd...sh%200.63.html
Now let's get to the fun stuff: there's a brand new Oblivion preview on Gamespot and it looks good

can't wait!

Thanks for the Wrye Mash link.. I'll definitely look into that.. but man after seeing that new preview , I'm not sure I want to start another playthrough and then find out Oblivion gets released during mid-game Ahh.. who am I kidding, I'll still probably start another playthrough (once I get this Kreia Mod done that is.. hehehe)

Have you guys tried the demo yet, it's awesome on 360!!!
I especially love playing the stealthy ranger, the bow I tried was sweet.
When you move, it feels much better than the original, and the fatigue factor is still applied to combat but feels much better.

I became addicted to Morrowind, and I'll probably become addicted to Oblivion. So far, the only fault looks to be diversity in the environments, but going to Hell, the new graphics and the surprisingly low requirments should make up for that.

I'm with you RH, Except I'm buying it at Futureshop as they usually have Release day sales and you can save 10 bucks on it.
As for the facial customization I've read that it is possible to replicate any real persons face, as long as you have enough time. I wonder though if it would be possible to create a face in the tool set and then import it to use for your character.

Both are good. Depends on your system and budget. Does your mobo supports agp or pci-e? How much are you planning to invest?
If you have agp, are you planning to do major upgrades to your PC soon? (In that case investing into a PCI-e mobo should be considered)

There are ups and downs when choosing a new video card, the PCI-e and the AGP dilemma aside (won't be much of one in a year or two).
nVidia and ATi both have really good cards. The race is always very strong and whenever nVidia releases a new really good card, ATi follows and then does a bit more. nVidia catches up and ATi tries to come back. Well, you get the idea.
Usually, investing in a mid-range card should be fairly good. High-range cards cost a real fortune and truly isn't worth it. A mid-range one should last you two years minimum. Of course, you can't really expect super-great performances with max resolution and max AA and AF but if you don't care that much, it should do.
Personally, I go with ATi. I've always been with them, cursed them a lot because of their sucky drivers but I still love them Truth is, the only real difference is in the quality of the drivers for both nVidia and ATi. ATi's drivers suck (though they have been getting much more stable lately), while nVidia's are more stable. That doesn't mean that you're not going to come across some problems, but you probably won't curse at your drivers when there's going to be some hiccup.
Now, I just realized that I was rambling so I'll leave it at that

My computer supports PCIe. I've been looking around @ the diffrent brands <I'm shooting for 512mb. I can handle a couple hundred $ but much over that and my hand begins to shake lol>. All the cards I've seen use either of the two chips, is there much diffrence by brand? (Diamond as opposed to Saphire or another brand.) Should I go direct to ATI/nVidia? Processing speed @ Hi-Res is just as important to me as price, (Have you seen the $1800 nVidia QuatroFx ? *drools*) since I have a Hi-Res Flatscreen monitor.

To be honest, I've never noticed any differences between the different brands, except that sometimes, one brand will include a fan and another will not for the same chip.
Personnally, I always go for ATi directly, but I don't think it's necessary.
As for high performance on high-res, you will have to go look for the higher-end cards for the newer games (and if you want to keep running your games at high-res for a decent time). It's going to cost you more of course.
Just be careful when you're shooting for 512mb. Those numbers don't really matter. A better card with only 256 mb can often run things better then an older one with 512mb.

Just a reminder!
Well, we all know Oblivion has gone Gold.. and it's "un-Official" release date was the 20th (today).. however I've seen that most store ads saying it won't be on the shelves until tomorrow..(21st) w00t!...
Needless to say, don't think I won't be scouring the stores after work today just in case some stocker makes a mistake hehehe...
Anywho.. anyone else going to try and get it when it first comes out.. or are you waiting awhile to get it?
Me, I'm all for grabbing that sucker as soon as I can get my greedy paws on it.. but for those that pre-ordered, let us know if it arrives in your mailbox today
EDIT: Oh yeah! BTW, for nVidia card users... here's something to keep your eyes peeled for as well:

I still havent decided whether I'm going for ATI or nVidia, but those drivers (Thanks Chainz!) lean me towards sticking with nVidia. I can't buy the card and the game on the same paycheck, so I have to wait 2 weeks to get my copy of Oblivion ;.;
At least it's finally here!

Picked mine up yesterday.. and I'm running on 2 hours of "sleep" today..
Game... Kicks... Ass... period.
The morphing/manipulating you can do in character creation is amazing, and just from what options they had available (which is alot) I was able to make a character that looked like myself.
Though I chose a totally different looking character to actually play, I was still amazed at how someone could quite possibly make their "self" a PC in the game.. total sweetness
The only thing that does kinda 'suck' is that because of the Radiant AI and the persuade mini-game that uses facial features as a visual clue... there are no "full" beards. Kinda makes Nords look like they have shaved recently.. hehehe.. but that is a minor measly thing soon forgotten once you start playing (5 o'clock shadow, gruffy facial hair etc.. is still available however)
Havoc physics will take gaming to the next level after seeing how it is incorporated into Oblivion. Reverb, repurcussion, death animations are superb.. and particularly sweet when you make a 'kill' and watch the corpse suddenly start rolling down an incline, triggereing a trap that offs 2 more goblins you hadn't noticed before (total fluke on my part)..
Then going to the corpse, picking it up or brushing it aside because it was laying on some loot..
If you can upgrade your computer without bankrupting yourself, I highly suggest this game.. I'd give it a solid 9 out of 10 "as is" and probably about a 9.7 out of 10 once I start modding it

I can play at 1280x1024 (HDR, 16xAF, all settings max) on my 7800 GTX 512 (620-1.8) and it runs smooth (40-50 FPS, 30 outside sometimes). Switching to 1600x1200, the game runs at 10 FPS less (30-40 FPS), which i consider unplayable. Time for SLI?
Make sure you install the latest Nvidia drivers (84.25). They increase FPS in the game.
I haven't really played the game yet, so i can't tell you anything useful about it... other than how it runs lol.

can you believe they already have mods for this game over at www.Oblivionsource.com
I'm not sure if they're for xbox or pc... but there's a few there...
Edit: There is also a tool set (official) out for custom content:
Here: http://www.elderscrolls.com/download..._utilities.htm
also Oblivionsource.com has it...

i've got two things to do for my system: upgrade the mobo and the video card (the video has to be the new GF7800GS since ATI won't put out an AGP8X card ).
after that, i'm definately getting this game.
