Music Question

Hey everyone, Iv seen that the way to obtain Kotor I music is to do something with some folder and play the music from the game. Now the prob is, that I used to own the pc game, but I no longer have it installed or own it at the current time. I love this music, particuly the final battle theme aboard the StarForge against Malak. I havn't heard kotors music in so long I was wondering if anybody could possibly email me the music from their computer, that would be so ausome So if anybody reads this who posesses the music, please send me them. It would be much apreciated, thanks

do not ask for the transfer of game data on our boards. Thanks. - Darth333

E-mail is not enough.

I have extracted (it's not as easy as Copy and Paste) a soundtrack of around 10 songs from KotOR, but the size - in MP3 - is 25 MB! I doubt your E-mail service can handle it.

If you can, reinstall KotOR. I can help you from there.

That and the fact that emailing little tidbits of the game every-so-often is frowned upon by bioware and the Lucas Forums Staff

If you have it installed the game and someone walks you through getting the music out of your streammusic folder and converting it to a playable there's no problem with that, but we really aren't supposed to give you pieces of game data because you ask us too =/

Exactly. I'm going to post the steps to extract it now. Keep in mind you need KotOR installed to do this.
  1. First, you need to download the Miles Sound Studio. The reason for this is because the music files are compressed, and are unplayable unless they are decompressed.
  2. Open the program you downloaded. Navigate to the streammusic folder in SwKotOR.
  3. Select one of the files you wish to listen to. You can either just play it with Miles Sound Studio, OR if you highlight the file and select 'Decompress', you can select where on your hard drive to decompress to. It will do so, making a copy of the file that Windows Media Player can open.

Try that. Let us know if there is a problem.

As far as I know, the streammusic files are for both the cutscenes and the movies.

The streamsound files are unplayable, even with Miles.
The streamwaves are the different voices.
The streammusic is all that's left.
So, yeah, the streammusic has to be it. Browse through them w/ Miles, and see which ones you like.

Oh, and welcome to the Forums!

Hmm...I tried this a while back, but Miles won't save files properly...

Well, I'm not sure what your problem is. It may be this: For some reason, the evil_ending.wav will play correctly, but will not extract. Ditto for 57.wav (the good ending) and the credits.wav. Also, the loadingscreen.wav or whatever it's called will hurt your ears even to play, let alone decompress. A shame, too: I want the cheering spectators for the end of my JA level. And trust me, it's not because of a slow system that they don't decompress. I have upgraded my computer significantly, as much as T3 at least, to play KotOR, not to mention LotR: RotK and a few other large games. Maybe it's double-compressed, I dunno. Worth an experiment, I suppose.

thanks for the welcome... unfortunately, the streammusic folder doesn't contain the particular track. funny thing is, TSL uses the same track, and its streammusic folder doesn't list it either. only thing i can figure is that the audio and video for the some of the movies are compressed together and need to be separated. don't know where to get a program that could separate those, though...

Use the Miles Sound Editor to uncompress and play them. It can be found on the StarWarsKnights pages (just click the link at the top of the screen).

you can use bink and smacker (included in the rad video tools) to extract the music from the cutscenes. For the tracks that you can't play, you can open them with goldwave. Check the music section of this thread for more details and links: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=143421

i tried that once. at least, i think i did. i got the video to play in Windows Media Player, but without the sound. i think i might need someone to point me in the right direction and kick me there. (it's coming up on finals week - can you blame me?) but i do have the bink and smacker, and the goldwave, so that's a start.
