It was a combination of 3, 4, and 5 that made me buy it.

My number one reason is former westwood employees helped to make the game. I'll probably buy most of anything petro makes! As long as it isnt anouther star wars galaxies

I voted cos it was star wars. The main reason I bought this game, I was led to believe there was soo much more to the game but the end result as we all know has been watered down drastically to sell more copies to those who cant be arsed to learn a game properly and quit at the first sign of a laser shot.

God it frustrates me soooooooooo damn friggin much. This game is really great but it's also really bad.

i wanted to vote for "It's star wars" and "the guys from CnC made it", i also just love RTS games.

what you are missing is "It's 3 games in 1, Star Wars: Galactic Conquest + Star Wars Land Battle + Star Wars Space RTS"

mind you, the reviews aren't great

Number 1. Otherwise, I wouldn't have bought it.

I bought it solely because the westwood guys made it. I've bought all of their RTS games - (obviously not renegade) - even dune/dune 2/emperor, etc etc etc. I got 14 store-bought copies of command & Conquer (the 1st one), 4 copies of Yuri's Revenge...well, you get the picture. Just buying the game once isn't enough to show my support for their efforts when the product turns out to be so good. I like their games. Every 3 months I fire up each command & conquer RTS game they've ever made, and play through all the factions individually (including generals and zero hour) - which keep me occupied for 2 or 3 weeks. How many game publishers have fans like this - that load each Sims game and play through the entire thing for each game installment Maxis has made? Anyway, so I bought Empire At War. From what I see of EAW, I think I'll just settle for buying one copy. And I look forward to whatever they release next. If their next product is better, maybe I'll buy 2 or 10 copies.

That is frightening.

Uh...dude, there's absolutely no point to buying more than one copy of a game except to give the extras away as gifts.

CnC guys DO make fun RTS games (not including Renegade, which is a FPS) their games have a certain appeal for a certain group of people, some people hate micromanagment, they'd go for CnC typed games, while other games require a lot micro and therefore not as fun (my opinion) is left to other game makers

Number 1. No other reason.

2. I never liked CnC games. (me = Blizzard fanboy)
3. Few RTSs are actually good. (read above)
4. Oblivion and WoW for the win
5. Bought it before gamespot reviewed it; I only read GS reviews.

Oblivion was out after EaW. so Darth54, you are a RPG player instead of a RTS fan?

lol, it's funny that no one voted because of the great reviews. i'd imagine most people are put off by most review's opinion on the slow land battles

Yes Oblivion came out after EaW. But only a couple of weeks later. I knew I would be playing lots of Oblivion, but still got EaW anyway. I haven't touched it since I bought ES4, but still.

RPGs and RTSs are my two favourite genres. I tend to like RPGs better, but some of my favourite games are RTSs (WarCraft II and III, StarCraft, R:TW).

If you loke a game, and want to see more, buying more copies IMO is a good way to do it. Best form of support feedback a software publisher can get. And this way, of course, you have original archive copies available should some of the discs get scratched, or when friends come over to play on the lan you don't need to mess with any copy protection - just pop the extra disks in. For Empire at War, as it is now, none of my friends want to play, so one copy is enough.

I had always wanted LucasArts to make a game where you could control space fleets in combat; when I saw one, I jumped for it. Also, I suspected that a tactical war game would be more fun than strategy games, and it has been.
