Been cold all day. Haven't been able to warm up at all.

Work: dull.
Highlight: Touring the building where the college's next concert venue is going to be built.
Still, it is a payday... never a bad day.

Will be hittin' the sack early again tonight.

The only thing I liked about EaW was the space battles. That's it.

well i wrote to a recruiter from the goarmy.com site and was told people who have a felon (in my case careless driving) aren't allowed back in the military. recruiter said i should contact a local recruiter for advice....i can't see how something like a minor traffic violation (all i did was hit the gas when the light turned green and accelerated and my tires squealed...stupid cop and me for not fighting the ticket -_- ) would bar me from enlistment...especially since they can recruit someone that is like 38 years old. gah what a email to wake up to.

Yet another utterly thrilling day at work... But I guess I really shouldn't complain... I could be having a week of days all like the other night was for me.
I guess I'll take slow and dull over busy but death-wish inducing.

Oversaw the fixing some the risers, cleaning of the back hall, sorting out of the Plexiglas shields, and checking of lighting cables.

Got home and ordered Chinese and watched Friday-night political weekly wrap-up shows on PBS.
Now thinking about bed. Still tired for some reason. Seems like I slept OK last night.

Got an entire day of laundry ahead of me tomorrow. Oh joy of joys! Bleh. Well... At least I'll get to catch up on DVD viewing while I do it.

Gotta plan on doing something interesting for Sunday though... my life cannot continue on in these doldrums like this much longer before I go out and do something risky and rash out of sheer desperation for excitement... like pick up a nasty, expensive, and self-destructive needle-drug habit or something.

At least then I might have some new and different things to talk about...

... probably no internet connection or computer to do it on though. So, on 2nd thought...

I'll probably just gas up the car, grab a bunch o' fave CDs, and head out on a drive back to re-discover the lands of my youth, (Plymouth, Manomet, Carver...) before the weather warms up and they turn into an overcrowded tourist Hell yet again.

Right now: Slogging thru multiple massive loads of laundry.

I have my doubts whether I'll get through it all today.

Maybe I'll do half of it now, just enough to get through the next coupla weeks... tackle the rest at a later date.

had a good day off today....Woke up at around 9am and just stayed inside and played Empire at War til around 5pm...went to wendy's for supper w/my parents and sister, and now i'm back.

yesterday I picked up some advil cold and sinus medication, the kind that you gotta sign for to relieve the place of any liability if you use it to make narcotics. anyways it's pretty much cleared up the rest of my cold. temperature outside is unforgiving...the weatherbug says 20 degrees, wind sucks. maybe it will warm up next week.

i think i'll get back into my workout clothes and put in a billy blanks dvd. been sitting down too long. -_- I went and added all my weights to the barbell in my room so i'm lifting like 100 pounds, can't do that when someone's trying to make me laugh though...i about dropped it all on my chest last time that happened.

Watched The Marine and Flags of Our Fathers the other day, Flags was pretty good.

I need to get that, and the "Letters From Iwo Jima" DVD as well, when it comes out.

Still not completely done with laundry yet, but I think I'll just go get a snack and call it a night. Most of the stuff I couldn't live without is done anyway. Even if I don't finish tomorrow, I can still get through the week.
I still really want to get out of the house and do something (anything!) tomorrow. Hope the weather stays clear...

Finished watching Schindler's List (and the bonus features,) tonight between loads, then followed that with the last 2 episodes of Band of Brothers... talk about a sucker for punishment. I spent the entire evening in a state of "choked-up." Had to watch a couple of HHGG episodes to lighten the mood a bit.

geez ed, how many clothes you go through in a day? I do my laundry once every two weeks...it is such a hassle.

I have about 15 pairs of jeans that I can wear out in the world (a few more pair that are acceptable around the house only... ) and 2 drawers full of tee shirts that aren't totally faded, shrunk, ripped (another couple of drawers of shirts that are.)
When I start to run out of them, it's laundry time. I usually wear each pair of denims twice, unless I get them really dirty somehow... and each shirt only once. At least 1 change of undies and socks every day... 3 fleece hoodies, and a couple of other fleece pullovers that I wear out everyday when it's cold like this. And all the sweatpants or flannel pajama bottoms that I usually bum around the house and sleep in during the winter months.

Go a month or 5 weeks between washes and trust me, it all piles up!
I really should do it more often... but somehow it always gets put off until it is so desperate that I an left with only 2 choices: Spend an entire day doing laundry; or go out and buy enough all new clothes to get through another week of work.

I choose both options about equally. I figure in another year I'll have enough clothes to get through 2 months without washing... then it will take all weekend to get through it all... unless I spend the money to get a couple of of giant, industrial size washer/ dryers. The ones I have now can do less than 6 pairs of pants before getting overloaded... which is one of the reasons everything takes so long for me... practically everything I own is made from heavy fabric... and each basket of laundry usually represents at least 2 loads in the washer. Takes forever...

And none of this mentions all the other things like bath towels, bed sheets and blankets, tablecloths and place-mats, cleaning cloths and rags, etc... that's usually several loads in itself. (Although I rarely do them at the same time as my clothes...)

One of these days I'll learn. I think if the laundry room was on the first floor I'd probably do it more often, y'know, throw in a wash while fixing dinner after work... but it's down in the cellar, and getting everything down there and back up is enough of a hassle to inspire procrastination at every opportunity.

EDIT:

My Norton 2007 is being a bitch today. I still have at least 9 months subscription left, but it's telling me I'm out, and it won't let me re-activate. It just won't connect to thier server.

Damn. I forsee a long time in tech support Hell in my very near future.

I'm over at my parents, house sitting and watching the dog.

World of Warcraft is not installed on the laptop. Highly annoyed. >.<

Laundry? I do it about once every week and a half.

laundry = once a week.
kinda have to, no space to put the dirty stuff. and to think living in the same place 80 others do, it'll get mighty stinky quick....

Neither do I. (Or even the clean stuff for that matter.)

Still doesn't stop me. I am truly a virtuoso procrastinator... I have taken the art form to spectacular new heights.
I should see if there is a world record for putting things off... maybe after dinner,.. oh, and are the Simpson's and Family Guy on tonight? Right after that... I swear.

Norton AV is working normally again. Go figure.
Must have been some glitch at their end. Doesn't make me super happy that it has to "call home" when you start the PC to work normally. What if I had a dial-up connection... or this one wasn't even connected to the wider web? Should be a strictly stand-alone app, except for update downloads.

Maybe this is my last go-round with good ol' Norton... Start exploring other viable alternatives.

My drive was nice. The old town has really changed dramatically in many ways... but in many others it hasn't changed at all. I really miss the quiet, slower lifestyle of that area. If I could figure out how to maintain a career in the business I'm in and still manage to live far outside the city I'd have to jump on it in a second.

Of course, I haven't lived down there since before I was 15,.. so I'm remembering it through much younger eyes and hazy, golden filters of my formative years.

Still, the Plymouth coastline is (in my admittedly biased opinion) one of the most gorgeous sights you can view in the northeast part of the lower 48.

Got as far as the Bourne bridge before I stopped, had brunch (coffee and croissants...) overlooking the Cape Cod canal, and turned back. Clocked in at just about a 100 mile round trip using the routes I took.

Stopped for cat food, litter, and a couple of other supplies on the way back.

Almost every second day is laundry day. Sometimes even twice!

http://www.sophos.com (We use this one at work and for some of our customers; it's solid, stable, good for network solutions)
http://www.avira.com (comes with extra features like a firewall and such)
http://www.free-av.com (free "classic" version of AVIRA's personal edition, lacks some features like a firewall etc, but good nonetheless, I used this at home)
All of them are pretty easy with the resources, and don't need like half a gig for basic installation like Norton does.

However, this is what *I* use at the moment and it's my favorite so far: http://www.kernel.org

I don't see myself completely switching to Linux any time soon. I simply could never generate enough of the air of snobbish, smug self-satisfaction to ever be considered a full-fledged card-carrying proper Linux geek.
I'll have to work on that before I could ever join the club...

I have a difficult enough time just keeping up with the Apple dweebs at work.

Hmm. I don't know, there are enough No-Geek-Required-Linux-Distri out there. I personally am against black/white thinkers, who are all linux-whore-ish. But I like the idea to use software legally, without necessarily paying tons of money for every update. I'd like to solve problems without ending up reinstalling everything or paying another ton of money for an "educated" MS-Whatever-Guy who cannot help me either. I mean it's like a girl that says "**** me **** me **** me!!" all the time and you say "Yeah yeah cmon!" and then she says "You cannot, because I'll keep my clothes on. But please, **** me."
The next thing is software that "calls home". Without notifying the user before, or without that it's clearly documented, or that you know what data exactly is send. And you cannot ask for it or find out. I mean you pay money, and have no right to get this info?
I happily join (and ignore) the geek parade, but have clean and naked OS-sex when I want to.

I know, my analogies are ter rul!

I realized yesterday that I hated my job.

I just don't like it anymore. I'm not happy. The hours suck, and honestly, the pay isn't worth the stress. Currently applying for another job that pays more, same benefits, less responsibility.

YAY!

hell yeah, but I feel that the true fun of those is a few people vs a few more AI's.

I got the demo, its more plished than the older beta version I played, and the AI is a bit more forgiving.....

I am now going to try and add the beta maps to the demo, and maybe the 'missing' units.......as a 'mod'

Oh yeah, man. Beating up AI is fun.

Beating up close friends? better.

My friend is a RTS king, and me and him can have some pretty heavy wars. The SC beta we went at it for a good 2 hours, back and forth across this giant ass map. It wasn't squads of units fielded, oh no.

Armies. Battalions. Large clusters of "ZOMG death!". Hurled in every direction in vain attempts to slaughter the other.

I just didn't have enough anti-nuclear weapon defenses.... >.<

Anyway, went to work, ran the safety meeting. Planning the next, in the event I must stay at McDonalds.

They let you go to work naked?!?? That's where most of my laundry seems to get generated. When I am on vacation and not leaving the house as often... a lot less dirty clothes to warsh.

Highlight of day: Giving myself a couple of nasty papercuts, one for each hand, unpacking the new handtrucks we ordered. I dunno what they were using, super-sharp reinforced cardboard or something, but I don't think I did anything radically out of the ordinary, however I was left with bloody hands anyway.

The rest of the day was one big party.
I've already explained to you how I feel about parties.

Spent most of the day racking my brain for 5 "Great" ideas. We have a sort of brainstorming contest going on right now that everybody is supposed to contribute at least 5 "Great" departmental ideas by the end of the week, with prizes being handed out for the best.

So far I've come up with 2, maybe 3, weakish, totally mediocre at best, thoughts about what I should submit.
Not gonna win any prizes on this one.

I'll have to scratch something out tomorrow, however. Don't see where I'm gonna have time to think about it at all later in the week... although I always do my very best work when right up against a deadline. I can't double guess myself then. Forces the perfectionist curse out of my system, and gets things going.

If I try to start things too early I spend all my time re-working the same thing over and over again... pissing-up-a-rope until the real deadline comes around anyway.

What did I say earlier about soaring to new, previously unexplored heights of procrastination...

Yeah, the weather folks on the news are in a frenzy of ecstasy, wetting themselves in joy, going absolutely ape-**** over the fact that we might actually get a couple of inches of snow on the ground finally this year. You might even be led to believe that this type of event has just NEVER HAPPENED in the history New England before today if you watch the TV.

Doesn't sound like it's even going to be all that bad where I am. I have my doubts that anything will even get cancelled around here because of it.

apparently, they could care less about what the groundhog had to say.

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

Anyone who lets a groundhog predict their future gets exactly what they deserve.

Cool Guy

I figured I'd get started on my Valentine's Day depression a little early this year. To that end:

Valtentine's Day sucks and I hate everyone who is less miserable than I am.

Well, that was fun. Back to work, then.

The groundhog thing used to be funnier but now no one knows that it used to be either sees his shadow and six more weeks of winter or doesn't see his shadow and 42 more days of winter. Now its just "six weeks or early spring!" and leaves out the stupid joke part.

I'm Nute Gunray and I approved this message.

Huh? I'm the first person who mentioned it. And it wasn't even in a serious way.
