The History Of LucasForums

In a few hours time, this time last year, I joined this humble home, LucasForums. I was thinking about the history of LucasForums and since there isn't much on Wikipedia or anywhere else, I want to know about the history of it. When was it created? Who was it created by? All these questions come to mind. I hope this isn't spamming, but I'm interested in this Forum's history.

There were a bunch of nasty evil people who wanted to suck away our spare time. So they made this.

This is a fairly standard response, but there were a few forums for various LA games back in the 90's that got merged into one by the admins of those sites. As far as I know a lot of them are still here, but most of them stick to their private forum and running the site.

Over time it's evolved, new staff members have joined, some have left, and the member list has kept growing. To pay for the servers, ads were allowed here. At some point the admins formed a private corporation, most likely to protect themselves from legal liability (as a corporation counts as a seperate entity when sued). There was also a big upgrade to this version of VBulletin a while back, which resulted in a bunch of threads being lost. But it gave the forums this new interface (it still seems new to me? I'm getting old

), extra features (like bigger avatars), and some other stuff.

That's really all there is to it. Unless you're looking for info on a specific community, there's not much more to say.

The Doctor beat you to it. I think it got deleted though, for not being "encyclopedic."

A bunch of people tried to fix it, but I think it was to no avail.

There was once a wiki on LFN, very expertly written to, by some handsome mod from theseparts

Too bad Wiki got strict on the self promotion stuff and canned it

I always though LFN started after Kurgan lost an armwrestle with George Lucas

holy jesus, I remember when LF didn't even exist. When you had to pop back and forth between forums. And I haven't even been here since nearly the start... Has it really been that long?

(p.p.s. Legends of the Spam? Isn't that a specific GB legend? Too lazy to read it and verify, I don't think I had a satisfactory role in there anyway ;d)

I remember reading an article about LF which is where i haered about it. For years i lurked on here, finally signing up a year or two ago. I like it here. It's cushty. I guess i signed up only to chat up Moeller, If only i'd knew....

With the DMUK leaving, I'm the last original representative of the old SWGB portion still alive. Except Muffin I guess.

Honestly, I didn't even know there was a Lucasforums when I first joined. It was the era when I still had a 28.8K modem (yeah...the dark ages). I just looked around the official site for Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds to look for cheats and strategy and I fell upon these forums.

I hung around SWGB, along with a handful of other fanatics and we devated every day on the stupidest possible subjects, always related to the game of course. The site "died" when the Off-topic members decided to leave.

Of course, I also remember the months before JA came out. I was lurking around their part of the forum and was amazed at how..."macho" some members were. "I will never play a female Jaden Korr!" "Girl characters are weak!" "Testosterone!" "If I play a female character, people will think I'm gay!"

Too many people think im gay already without playing as a woman in a game. My house in Galaxies was once reknown as being a ****pad in the Gallo mountains as several players at a campsite saw 12 known female characters coming out of my house. They enter the house, find me sat on a plush divan, boom Herbie's a stud. Those were the days. Now im homeless. Hell... I'm Galaxyless.

I remember the days in the Cantina with lightbulba who I believe was posting from the library of an insane asylum. When they found out he was posting they drugged him and put him in a rubber rooma and he was never heard from again.

Also, the JPB forums and the "Un-Council" (of which I was a member).

Lucasforums used to be jediknight.net, roguesquadron.net, and xwingalliance.net, and the monkey island/grim forums. This was back in 98-99, then games like galactic battlegrounds, jedi outcast, starfighter, and knights of the old republic came about, and I decided, with the help of my good friends over at the rogue squadron community forum (downtime) to connect the forums all together, to make it easier for one person to post at another forum without logging out, as well as being able to track the posts they make, and I even added the avatar feature so everybody could have their own custom picture below their name, as well as having ability to customize their usertitle after 1,000 posts. All thanks is greatly appreciated...

Actually you can all thank Boba Rhett, it was mostly his inspiration that led me to spark the flames of forum merger through invasions and midnight covert operation postings...

Strange, I'm male but I usually play with a female char in JA or KotOR, because I think female chars are a bit underrated in SW, and it's just cool to see a female kick some male ass (have you noticed all the baddies in JA are male? Besides Tavion and Alora)

It's interesting to know how this forum got to be...

A little mental instability is needed on these forums in order to keep everyone totally sane. That was why the forums were created.
