Best Bond?

In response to Tysyacha's threads about Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Pierce Brosnan as James Bond, I decided to ask people who they preferred in the role. Official actors only, though. I personally preferred Timothy Dalton and Daniel Craig, as they seemed the most serious during their respective tenures.

Pierce Brosnan played Bond with the most sophistication. That, and the way he delivers the double entendres make him my favorite.

Roger Moore is my favorite. I like how he adds in subtle humor to his lines and just his overall portrayal of the role is my favorite.

I'd say Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan are tied for my second spot. I like them both very well.

I didn't like Timothy Dalton that well, and George Lazenby was no good at all.

I have to see at least one more of Craig before I judge him in with my top 3 others. I liked him very well in his debut.

Timothy Dalton. I prefer his films as he did play Bond without making it look like some cheesy, slightly comedic role. Brosnan ruined it with the last film although he was pretty good at times. Craig -meh- he was good but when you watch a classic Bond movie after watching Casino Royale, you miss the quips and sly humour of any of the old Bonds. So like Moeller said, i'll have to wait a little before i judge him.

Waking up.

This is how I would rank them

Timothy Dalton Closest to the books
Sean Connery
George Lazenby
Pierce Brosnan
Roger Moore

Daniel Craig not sure on him since I haven't seen the movie but definitely above Roger Moore

I haven't watched that many Bond movies, and me being a 90's generation Bond fan I voted Pierce Brosnan.

I still haven't seen Casino Royale should go see it soon.

My favourite James Bond would have to be Sean Connery. The first Bond (to my knowledge), and the best. I just like the way he portrays Bond. He just seems perfect for the role.

Next would be Roger Moore. I also enjoyed his films. He was pretty good. But, not good enough to best Connery, in my opinion.

I'd toss it up between Craig and Brosnan. I really enjoyed Casino Royale (I've seen it four times and counting). I think he did some well in his debut Bond film. Shows him from a different perspective. Brosnan was phenomenal in Goldeneye, but his other movies were okay and I didn't like TND.

Dalton was decent, IMHO. And Lazenby was horrible. Plus he was Australian.

Sean Connery for me. Some of the others were pretty good, but Sean Connery IS Bond as far as I'm concerned.

Roger Moore was my second favorite.

Pierce Brosnan did a good job too, but his movies were not as good as the Connery movies in my opinion.

Easy I hate Moore's Bond with a passion. It's too over the top and extremely cheesy. Don't get me wrong, I do think that Roger More is an excellent actor. I loved him in Ivanhoe, The Saint, The Persuaders!, The Wild Geese, North Sea Hijack, and The Sea Wolves.

Roger Moore. He's a good actor and stars in my most favourite Bond films of all time. Daniel Craig was pretty good in Casino Royale aswell.

Pierce Brosnan was born for the role! I hated to see him move on. I was hoping he would become the one actor with the most Bond movies under his belt.

I'd like to see more of Craig, he was good in Casino Royale, but i grew up watching the Brosnan movies, and though Die Another Day was awful, the others were pretty good.

Difficult. It just so happens I don't really like Sean Connery as Bond. Don't know why.

Roger Moore is better imo, but I like his movies, not particularly his performance.

I guess it is either Pierce Prosnan or Daniel Craig. The new bond with Daniel Craig is IMO a way better movie than all of Prosnan's though.

in order from best to last:

Daniel Craig
Sean Connery
Pierce Brosnan
Timothy Dalton
Roger Moore
George Lazenby

i kind of hate putting Moore that low because he really was a decent Bond, its just that other guys were better at the part. Lazenby just plain out sucked. Craig was somebody that i really liked, and he sticks pretty close to the original Bond that was in the novels.

Well, when it comes to the quality of the movie and most importantly its realism, I'd say Craig in Casino Royale. But then again, there wouldn't be many Bond movies if Sean Connery was a bad actor, now would be?

I voted for Sean Connery. He is one of my favorite all time actors.

Second it would be close between Pierce Brosnan and Timothy Dalton. I always saw Pierce Brosnan as James Bond even back in his Remington Steele days. I liked Timothy Dalton’s adaptation of James Bond best. He made the man behind the gun more realist (although that might have been the directors and producers work).

I now find Roger Moore’s Bond very cheesy, but I loved them as a child. Didn’t care for George Lazenby and haven’t seen Daniel Craig’s version.

Dalton is a great actor--I first saw him in "The Lion in Winter" and he did a fantastic job playing King Phillipe of France. I've been following his career since then. I liked him in the Bond films, but I like Brosnan and Moore better.

I've seen just about all of the Bond films, with an exception here or there. Daniel Craig's good in his debut, but it's too early to judge him I think. I'm tied between Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery, but for the sake of the poll, Sean Connery. He's the original, the one everyone else is judged by.

I agree that George Lazenby got screwed with the script and that his film was a caretaker film. I like the fact that Bond got married in the film.

I liked them all, personally I think the best actor did each movie.
  • Connery rocks, nuff said! He started it all, his Bond had a sadistic wit that was quite fitting for the character.

  • Lazenby was damn good in OHMSS, he was 21 or so when he did that movie, but he was shafted with a poor story plot and bad choice of villan casting... (Telly Sevalas is a brilliant actor, but just didn't pull of the role of Blofeld for me.) he also followed some bad advice and didn't do anymore films, I would have been very interested to see what he could have done with Diamonds are Forever.

  • Moore was following in Connery's footsteps and had big shoes to fill his Bond was also great... (Not that all the movies he was in had the best of stories either, but their 'fun factor' was good, and to me that's what was important.)

  • Dalton was a damn fine Bond as well, far more gritty than Moore was with a touch of that old sadistic wit, it was sad that he didn't have the chance to do more films, but the Cold War ended and Bond went on haitus for a while.

  • Brosnan, what can I say he was 'born' to play Bond, while I have issues with his last couple films because of the 'brand name' advertising, that doesn't detract from his work in them.

  • Now as far as our newest entry, Craig... I haven't seen Casino Royale yet so I will reserve judgement, as I disliked the Book Casino Royale... But Craig is a solid actor who I think will pull off Bond fine.

Sean Connery is Bond, James Bond.

All others were just trying to keep up.

That being said, I did enjoy Moore's and Brosnan's attempts.

You know, the funny thing is that even with so many different actors filling the role, when I watch each of the Bond movies, I don't think "Oh, that's Moore/Brosnan/Connery/Dalton/Craig/Lazenby." I see the character and think, "Oh, there's James Bond." In that respect, they all do a good job of bringing the character to life for me.

My personal favourite James Bonds are: Pierce Brosman and Roger Moore.

But this new guy... I'm still not quite sure! I mean, he did a great job in Casino Royal, but I think he has to do a few more Bond movies to prove himself worthy of the title!

I think most actors did a nice job. Ranking them is hard.

I find it funny how some don't want to judge Craig yet because he only made one James Bond but can judge Lazenby. Then again, if I judged Brosnan on Goldeneye alone, he would be closer to the top...

Anyway...

I chose Connery because he's Bond. He's the one who spanks women after they give him a massage or any other kind of service.

Second would be Craig. I think he's the only Bond to be appear
spoiler:
naked.
And he's a damn fine actor. And with the body of a Greek god. Ahem. Yes.

I put Dalton in third place. I really liked his movies and I think people judge him on his looks more then his acting skill. After all, he's, in my opinion, the least sexy Bond.

Moore comes in fourth. He had a lot of good movies and a lot of bad ones. He's really the "humorous" Bond which can be quite refreshing sometimes.

Brosnan is fifth. He was good and it's unfortunate that I have to put him so low because of most of his Bond movies. Goldeneye was great, it had Sean Bean and Famke Janssen as Xenia Onatopp and every guy would like to get killed by Xenia. Happy death. The rest were less then stellar. Tomorrow Never Dies had a part in Saigon...which doesn't look like Saigon...at all. I know that it's a bit silly, but as a Vietnamese guy who has roots in Saigon, it does piss me off a bit. The World is Not Enough made no sense. Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist? I realize that when you watch a movie, you must suspend your disbelief but...there's some things that are just impossible. His last movie was the worst Bond in quite a while. Too much CGI...

Lazenby is last because he only starred in a single Bond movie. OHMSS is actually a darn good Bond movie, IMO. However, Lazenby is just...not James Bond...
