Zork online

Hey Zork-lovers... a nice Ajax-powered online Zork is ready for you.
http://thcnet.net/zork/index.php

It even recognizes the 'save' and 'restore' command so you can come back later.

Don't get eaten by a grue.

Oh man, I'm so going to get sucked into this....Reminds me of those 'Choose your own Adventure' books.

From MST3K's spoof of "Hercules Unchained"--heard as Roman medic soldiers carry off an unconscious Greek Hercules on a 1950's Army green canvas stretcher: "Hi, we're IX-I-I. Did somebody dial IX-I-I?"

Oh wow, I remember those Zork games. I know I've played all the graphical Zork games and even some of the text-based games. Gives me something to do in class today.

Works fine for me and I'm using Firefox 2. Make sure you have Javascript enabled, or it probably won't work.

Edit: Oh, I see what you mean. The page title apparently is "... 404 Error: Now what???". But the page still works (and it looks the same with Internet Explorer). Probably just a geek joke.

Heh, zork is good. I am afraid of grues even more than wumpuses.

Not if you turn on the lamp.

I heard of zork, and immeadily started the game up.

But I'm stuck...on what to do.

I mean, if you don't want to be attacked by the grues, don't go into the House. But if you don't go into the House, all you do is sightsee on the mountains...Not fun. So, any pointers on what a new player has to do in Zork to start the story up will be helpful.

If you go west in the house, there's a lantern. Grues don't attack if you've got a light source. Also, try doing stuff to the rug.

I once played Zork. Jumping upstairs in the house is fun.

But once it got to the maze-like part, it turned me off. I can't be bothered with visualizing gameplay maps, you know. But yeah, Zork is one of the greatest adventure games ever. I know it definitely is the best text-based adventure game.

Played very few text rpg's like this, but I know something that is going to keep me occupied in computer programming class from now on.

Because you only have a battery powered lamp.

Maybe eventually you'll find some matches or a torch?

You may want to use the leaflet as a marker for map making. Sometimes going one direction and then double-backing doesn't take you back to the spot you left. Dropping items on the ground can remind you where you were and help you draw a map on a piece of paper.

I know, it's unheard of nowadays... I have to make my own map?!
