Aside from lockpicking the Ocean House front door, there should be a key you can grab in the trailer(the pale blue one, with the door - just a bit to the left in your first pic).

Search the worker's shed in front of the Ocean House, it should contain the key to the front door. Once you get inside, search the place thoroughly, there is an occult item inside that provide you with a handy buff that can be easy to overlook if you just pursue your main goal.

As for blood (you seem a bit low on it in your screenshots ), you can buy blood bags at the Blood Bank in the Santa Monica hospital unless you've pissed off Vandal. Otherwise you can loot bags in various locations throughout the game. But you should save those for when you're out on expeditions in areas without any humans or animals to feed on (like the Ocean House hotel). Feeding on rats in the sewers or random humans wandering through secluded back-alleys is otherwise a good, free source of blood (be sure to stop before draining them dry).

You can also feed on hostiles in combat areas if you find someone who's alone (or you've already taken down all their nearby buddies). Just be sure to drain them dry if you do since they won't be sedated after combat feeding. If you've got the Domination or Dementation disciplines this also works on pairs of enemies if you use Hysteria or Trance to incapacitate one of them while you feed on the other.

Once you get access to Downtown LA there are a few good feeding spots where you're unlikely to be spotted, like the bathrooms on the ground floor of the Empire hotel, and the long back-alley near Confession in the direction towards The Last Round.

There are 2 girls inside the Asylum and another in the Confession and Vesuvius that you can seduce or persuade to use as your 'blood dolls'. You have to have a high enough persuade/seduce the first time you talk to them, however, or they may not give you the option later. It's the only time you can feed openly. As long as you don't drain them completely, they'll regenerate blood slowly over time.

From MST3K's spoof of "Hercules Unchained"--heard as Roman medic soldiers carry off an unconscious Greek Hercules on a 1950's Army green canvas stretcher: "Hi, we're IX-I-I. Did somebody dial IX-I-I?"

It seems to me they refill once you leave the map(as in, the next time you come back, you can feed from them again). Though with all of them, once you seduce them, you don't have to do it again, as their opening line usually alludes to them wanting to see you again. And they will give you the seduction like as soon as you have enough points to get it, though until you do, it will be constant rejection.

And just as note, I'd avoid feeding on homeless people downtown. Everytime I've done it, it proved useless.(Trust me, I know why It happens - just don't want to spoil it if a first time player doesn't want to know yet)

There's also another blood doll in Chinatown, in the Red Dragon restaurant. She's the hardest one to seduce.

Yes, you only need to leave the map and come back. It isn't time-based (not in the vanilla game anyway).

Ah i did find that one girl upstairs at the assylum, i was ashamed to admit what happened, she was there and we were talking and i got a seduction line, and i guess it worked because some stuff happened and all of a sudden i was feeding on her...it was a bit of a surprise and i was worried someone would see me... but it is good to know that it is ok, i guess i/my avatar has a way with the ladies thanks for explaining that. I will go see her again. i have to learn to watch my blood supply

hehe, well i was quite suprised...my in game self has some moves....i must say, i forget exactly what the girl said but my guy went into action before i even know what was up....

wow....all i can say is...WOW, what an amazing scene in that old hotel, i have not had so much fun and been so well scared in a long time.

I am enjoying getting to know my in game self.... a bit pale but he is doing pretty well for a newbie... at least he is still 'dead' and moving...

the hotel and the interior is just amazing, in ambience and detail..and the way things happen, i wont spoil it with details for other new players, but...it is amazing..

the feeling of an old abandoned hotel is awesome, by chance, i was a manager for a large 100 room hotel on a lake in colorado that was empty most of the time, and falling apart...and i lived on site, and spent many nights alone in there....so this was an amazing deja vu for me....

the special effects, well what can i say but just fantastic!

and on to my next quest.....

HAHA! Somebody's been playing around with the money cheat.

That haunted hotel is legendary. It was awesome my first playthrough. I reached a dead end and turned around...

It's got to be one of the hair-raisingest settings in a video game, and there's no gore and very little danger. It's all atmosphere.

Indeed. Even after umpteen playthroughs where you know all the cues by heart, it never really loses that atmosphere. I think it's a good argument against all the people whining about clichéd settings in games. It takes a well worn old trope and makes fantastic use of it.

I've played through that area probably 5 or 6 times now, and I still cannot play that area at night--it creeps me out that badly. But man, it's so fun.

I still count "Ocean House" as my favourite area of any game of all time. It's that good.

I can play through it now and not jump at all, but my first and second playthroughs where quite nerve racking, but in a good way. lol

I literally, and no joke, fell out of my chair the first time the light popped on the front door! Nothing in any game ever startled me that much. THEN, just a few minutes later, the game outdid itself with just two words:

Beeeee caaaarefuuulll.

You mean it always fails, or it doesn't let you pick the lock at all? Some doors might be two high to pick at that point in the game, or requires a key.

I think the ones i was trying needed a key that appeared later in the plot but there may have been one that was just too hard to pick in the hotel, not sure. The process did appear, where you see the hands picking the lock but i just did not succeed in any yet, since the tutorial level where you learn about it and that did indeed work.

Some of the locks will tell you that the are not 'pickable' because you have to find the key for them. I think one of the basement doors requires a very high lockpicking score to open (8 or 10?), which most of us can't get to typically that early in the game even with blood buff. If you make the attempt, it should tell you what level of lockpicking skill you need, or if a key is required.

@ Bob--I made the mistake of not saving when I heard the 'Beeee Carefulllll'. I've not made that mistake anytime after that. And yes, that part of the game still can make me jump, heh.

Well, not that I have much to do with it, but Wesp's 6.8 patch was released recently.
http://forumplanet.gamespy.com/blood...0196485/p1/?26

Don't know exactly why I'm posting it, but this is generally my idea of Vampires(not so much the skin - that's just a literal view of "BlueBlood"), at least when eyes are concerned.

i lost my previous computer and install of VtMB but now just got it re installed and began the tutorial. I had a werid bug crash freeze just before we went to see the guy in the alley who I have to sneak by, but i will try again. HOPefully i got things installed right.

Look forward to getting back in, had to start over as my saves did not make it, assuming they were supposed to be in the SAVE folder in the VtMB folder?

anyhoo, back to it soon i hope. I am posting here with the permisiosn of the thread creator in spite of it being a bit of time since the last post.

You lost your computer? Was it a hardware failure, or did you actually, physically lose it?

I had a cascade failure of the HD caused by starforce drivers and issues aroudn their removal...could not restart the HD in the system..so i saved the old HD and installed it as a slave drive (love that term) in new box with a new card and upgraded dual core system ..and all is well.

I am back in VTmB and loving it, made progress past where i was before finished the two sisters quest, wow, that was a surprising ending on that one! i must say! and i got to blow up the warehouse..that was fun too, and as a lover of old trains i loved the railyard, there is so much beatufiul detail in this game..the Diner is stunning, ....now i found Vampires can take cabs and i am downtown.....just cant say enough good things about this game and the care they took in building the world..and the characters! they are awesome.

Yeah it's an excellent game - even after all this time. Just started playing it myself fairly recently, and it has completely taken over from Dragon Age etc. I've been consistently playing as Ventrue, can't seem to play as anything else.

The hotel has to be one of the most atmospheric levels in any game about - even after reading some of the hints about it here, I panic-shot one of the ghosts when it popped up behind my character with an axe!

It's such a shame that a sequel is so extraordinarily unlikely...

Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines

I picked up this game a few weeks ago, and WOW

I was extremely impressed by it. I played Deus Ex several dozen times in the past, and wasn't expecting gameplay that felt like it. Just how you could do potential ghost runthrew , the moral ambiguity and impressive story reminded me of it.

Very highly recommended game by me. I adored playing as different kinds of Vampire clans and noticing the gameplay style shift dramatically. (Playing a Nosferatu especially). It had a very satisfying endgame with multiple endings depending on certain choices you made in the game.

My love of Jeanette is well documented.

Best clan is the Malkavians. There are so many little touches when playing a Malkavian it's just awesome.

QFE although to fully and better appreciate the "Malkavian Experience", I think it is best if it is not during the first play through.

I agree with Darth333 completely--it's best to play a 'regular' class first so you have some idea of what's going on when you play as a Malkavian. Some of the comments become even more funny when you know what the 'normal' answer is and then you see the totally off-kilter responses the Malkavians have.

"Hey."
"TV man?!"

I recommend either Toreador or Brujah for a first playthrough, if only to get the desire to use the "I win" "bullet-time" discipline out of your system.

Having played through it several times I would say Malkavians are the most fun to play. And the males with the "cat in the hat" hat with the fur coat. Come on that's just awesomeness. It's like they raided my wardrobe.

And be careful when playing Malkavian... You don't want to talk with your significant other right after a game. You will say something weird.

I have been doing another run through as a Malk and I just discovered something new that I hadn't seen before on previous Malk playthroughs (although admittedly I'd only done 2 prior). When in the Downtown hub you can have an argument with a stop sign! Not having encountered it before it gave me a good laugh. Have to love those little extra bits Malks get.

I have heard of that particular encounter, but I haven't been able to trigger it on my own Malkavian playthrough. Then again, I think I heard that the "Stop" sign in question was the one in Santa Monica, so I might have been looking in the wrong place.

So after postponing playing this game for years, I finally picked it up, yay. College will probably delay my playthrought and I'm already a slow player on RPGs (my first KotOR playthrough took me a month to finish, I guess), but I like this way better.

So from what I've read so far I should:

1. Download the Official 1.2 patch. (done)
2. Download the Unofficial Wesp5's patch and install the "basic" vesion. (done)
3. Start as a Toreador.

Anything else I should keep an eye out for?

You don't have to download the official patch; everything is included in Wesp's patch.

Ha, didn't see that coming but I think I should. It was kind of obvious that thing about Therese/Jeanette. I also didn't know she was a Malkavian until I was told directly.

PlanetVampire.com Staff Resigns and a New Site is Born!

This news is a bit old (couple of months) but I didn't see any mention here in the Bloodlines thread and not sure if you have a Redemption thread here. Please visit the new site (listed at the bottom) this is the main Vampire site now, all the modders, downloads and forums.

Speaking of forums it's been an EXTREMELY good year for Vtm Bloodlines, have you seen all the wicked new mods or wonder where the post suggestions or bugs for the Unofficial Patch, for us to test?
VTM: The Final Nights (The latest from Team Camarilla International)
Bloodlines Antitribu
Clan Quest Mod 20 Released
VTMB Companion Mod
Camarilla Edition
VTMB2010 - CQM2.0 CM1.4 CE1.3
The Revival Project is now Bloodlines Resurgence (converting to current Source Engine)
VTMB Custom Content Installer + Addons (no longer need to overwrite other mods)
ZVTool (zylonbane excellent new tool)

Basically what happened is the staff got frustrated, bought the content and moved it to a new site, where they are in control. Everyone please stop by try the new mods and especially to all you amazing modders that have done so much to helped KotOR, maybe you could show a bit of love for BLOOD?

Also going to the main page will link you up to many new videos of mods in the works and some about the new Vampire mmog.

PlanetVampire.com Staff Resigns and a New Site is Born!

This has been in the making for a while, just making it official. Aside from Dante who moderates at PlanetElderScrolls and wishes to continue there, all current PlanetVampire.com staff hereby resign from IGN's hosting and support. We thank them for the memories and if it weren't for their hosting this community for 10 years, we wouldn't be posting here together right now.

Over the years, the needs of PlanetVampire.com members shifted, with the changes in how people interact and the improvement of Content Management Systems and we, the staff, did the best we could to adapt with the tools we had to work with. We approached IGN multiple times to update the CMS and to add other users to the news system for the front page but we were denied the CMS and told no other staff could be added to add news to the front page, which also has the same login for the FTP. That was a double whammy in itself. Then the news system began breaking down and we were not only ignored but denied any kind of support when we couldn't post the community news when a new mod was released ect. We were losing inspiration and people were leaving because we weren't making the changes the community asked for and for some things, we just couldn't accomplish what we wanted and IGN wasn't willing to help us make the needed changes so we decided to continue PlanetVampire elsewhere.

This passed winter, a new domain was purchased and we finally started to be able to do some of the things we wanted and there is now no middle man to ask permissions and we have an open canvas to help support the community, the way we should have been able to do for some time. We now have a pretty strong foundation for the site in place and are ready to make the move.

Special shout-outs in no particular order:

Skyra- giving us a kick in the ass old-school style and helping us with his ultra-busy schedule

Javokis- For installing the site and forum, setting the front page theme (among other things) when I knew **** all about how to do any of this.

Dante- For replacing the bloody test**** on the front page with a more suitable banner until a more permanent one could be put in place and giving sage advice in the secret moderator forum that Offkorn likes to speculate about.

Burgermeister- Wrote a prog that spidered the data from this forum so old threads would not be lost and the transition could be a smooth one. Really, you rock for that. He is also working on a template for people to easily host their work on the site. The only restriction we've found is if you're mods are too good and too popular, you get the site suspended due to hidden bandwidth restrictions.

Paine- Created the new files area for the site, one you could actually upload your own files and is properly categorized.

Dream Asylum- created the current banner on the front page of the new site that replaced Dante's temporary replacement banner that replaced the bloody test****.(kidding Jav, don't hurt me Seagal Style)

Mv.c9- Who is making a new and improved Redemption area for the new site during a terribly difficult and hectic time in his rl.

El Gostro- Has made some buttons for the new forum that nobody has ever seen but I'll hopefully be able to work them into the theme somehow.

If I forgot anyone who has helped with the new site, it was unintentional. Thanks to everyone also for sticking around though these last few years and have continued to share their mods, videos and art and have kept the community alive.

Basically, PlanetVampire.com will still exist and so will this forum, unless IGN decides to close it down. However, after this announcement, there will be no more news posted on the front page of the old site, nor will there be forum moderation of any kind on this old forum, unless IGN "hires" new staff to replace us. I hope Master Cyril asks them for irony. If you want to continue posting here, we are proud of the work on the new site but that's completely up to you. However, if you change your mind, all threads dated 6/9/2010 and prior that were on the old forum will be waiting for you on the new forum.

The new Site is here: http://planet-vampire.com

The new forum is: http://planet-vampire.com/main/forum/index.php

I tried to edit out the language, since it's an R game, people are a bit more colorful with the words, hope I didn't miss any and I hope you enjoy your visit.

Not sure this warrants its own thread - you could have just posted it in the Bloodlines thread.

Good luck with it all I guess, although I've only ever bothered with the unofficial patch and that was always hosted elsewhere so I never had much use for the site. The rest of the Bloodlines mods always seemed pretty bleh to me, but to be fair I guess you can say that about 95% of most game mods (KOTOR included).
