More Big LucasArts News? Super Star Wars is here! LA Back Catalog Megathread

Quote:
Amazing news coming Monday! Super excited! You have no idea how tough it is not to start yelling about it! But it's secret! Until Monday!
From the official LucasArts twitter. Do you think it will as big as he makes it sound or just something to get us hyped up? An announcement about a currently announced game or something new or unrelated? I really have no idea, but let's hear your guesses!

Given the tone of the statement, it would seem unlikely to be a Wii or handheld game (unless the author is mentally deficient). A sequel to Force Unleashed would seem to be the most likely candidate. Although with Monkey Island's comeback, it could be another adventure game remake (Full Throttle, Day of the Tentacle, Maniac Mansion, etc).

Based on this line from the Monkey Island press release:

"These efforts are just the start of LucasArts’ new mission to revitalize its deep portfolio of beloved gaming franchises."

it would seem likely to indeed be another remake. I can't see you getting a sequel to XWA, but maybe you'll get a remake of the original. Given LA's tactic over the last decade of only Star Wars games, I'm honestly surprised they haven't dipped back into that well already.

Here's another tweet. Maybe we'll get a hint over the weekend. It'd be great to be a new game, but there have been so many LucasArts game announcements the past month or two, I wonder how much more they could have going on. I basically wouldn't care if for the next year or two all we got from them were old franchise remakes / reboots. Don't think it will be an adventure game though since they've said they need to wait and see how SoMI: SE sells. But it might not be a new game at all so I don't want to get my hopes up too much.

It's probably going to be the announcement of the release date for one or both of the MI games. If it is an announcement for a new game, it's most likely for another installment of one of their new banal franchises.

And no, there's not a chance that K3 will ever be made by now. There's a greater likelihood for a Super Bombad Racing sequel than a KotOR III.

Well I'll be praying for another Jedi Knight game, but of course it's extremely unlikely.

I always forget how much I enjoyed the Jedi Knight series (Dark Forces II being my first PC game) That would be awesome, especially now KIII (as a SPRPG) is kinda out of the picture.

I'm guessing a remake of another LucasArts classic, or The Force Unleashed 2. But I wouldn't bet any money on it, you never know with dear LucasArts.

My guess is a release date for the updated Secret of Monkey Island...

I honestly don't expect a new game announcement this close on the heels of E3.

Sequel to Republic Commando!

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

That doesn't fit the tone of the message at all. A release date for a game that has previously been announced is hardly "amazing news" that would get you "super excited". Unless you are some kind of retard. Of course, I guess we are talking about someone that works for LA.

While I agree that in most circumstances it would be odd timing to announce a new game so soon after E3, remember all the stuff that went down last year with devs/publishers (including LA) withdrawing from the ESA and threatening to pull out of E3. They don't place the emphasis on it that they used to. LA said last year they didn't want to make any big announcements at E3 because they would get drowned out in the noise. Maybe the same applies here. All the E3 buzz has settled down now and we are in the dead period marking time until the Xmas release window. Anything announced now is probably going to get a lot more airplay than it would have done being announced at E3.

It's still too vague, as "old school" could mean anything from Maniac Mansion to X-Wing/TIE Fighter.

Still, at least it won't be another banal Clone Wars.

Considering how "spectacular" LucasArts cames have been recently, "awesome news for our old school fans" can probably be translated into: "We took this old idea that was totally awesome and everyone loved it and took it in a new direction turning it into another poorly done over-hyped piece of trash that everyone will hate us for!"

"So if you go to Washington, it's buildings clean and nice. Bring a pack of matches...and we'll burn the White House twice!"

Here's another update that's more promising...
Quote:
I hope I don't disappoint. I know this is something I was asking for since before I worked at LucasArts.
That almost definitely tells me it's an unannounced game and not an additional announcement about a currently known game. I hope at least.
