Spiderman 3 (Major Spoilers)

Spiderman 3 (Major Spoilers - Major Spoilers Below)
If you do not wish to read spoilers, I would suggest you move back. We are going to talk about the entire movie, and we are not going to hold anything back. Lol...

SPOILER BEGINS HERE

Here is the deal. I ended up seeing the movie yesterday afternoon, so I was wide awake to digest it fully. When it comes down to the question, "Was it good?", I can honestly say, "I do not know". I have never watched a movie, which I am just left as "?????". Let me explain:

1. There are truely great throw backs to the Spiderman comicbooks, which I completely enjoyed seeing in the movie. Venom's profile shots, upside down Spiderman, etc...

2. There is a story to this movie, which is very important for any movie. I loved its complexity. My biggest issue is in how long it took to tell, "Parker has fallen" and "Parker has been redeemed". Actually, I did not see any moment of true redemption. Just a confession and self resolution. (More about this in comment 5.)

3. The beginning premise was that MJ and Parker would get married. What got me slightly upset was that it was never delivered. I know. I know. MJ and Parker do not get married in the comicbook until much later. But, I truely wanted to see a marrage at the end.

4. Swearing? When in the world did swearing enter into Spiderman. Personally, I think Spiderman lost its innocence with adding swears.

5. Parts of the story just took way too long. I thought I was going to walk out. At one point in the movie, I said, "What the hell?" We got the whole idea that Spiderman had fallen, but they just stretched it out in a 'Lord of the Rings' manner. Yawn. I ended up disconnecting from the movie during those long scenes, and I had a hardtime sitting there to see more. I think this was the biggest issue, which made me think: "How did you like it?" - "I do not know."

6. Parker hitting Mary Jane? I felt like walking out of the theater. At this point in the movie, I allready understood what was going on. I did not need to see MJ getting hit by Parker. Actually, I thought it was a cheap move all around. I have never once seen MJ hit in the comicbooks, and I thought it was tasteless approach to the story. After watching this scene, and the ending, all I have to say is that MJ stayed with Spiderman because he beat her. (Please note: Kids were sitting int the threater (ages 5-12), and thay saw a superhero beat his girlfriend. I guess we are saying, "If you are a hero, it is okay to beat your girlfriend." Kids at that age just do not know better. This is a comicbook for god's sake.)

7. Jokes. I loved them. I truely did like J.J.'s medication and high blood pressure joke, etc... Lol...

8. I am going to let someone else comment on this.

There are several moments in this movie, which I completly said to myself, "Why am I here?" I did enjoy certain aspects of this movie, but I also hated an equal amount of the story.

"I just do not know."

If your opinions of the film fluctuated that wildly while you were watching it, i think you should never watch a movie again. Your trying to weigh up the good scenes against the bad and tbh are looking into it too deeply. Like you said, it's a comic book film, so things are not going to be as per the usual film. If you really were going to walk out because of one scene then you obviously did'nt like the film.

Waking up.

Unfortunately they committed the cardinal sin of letting the Sandman kill uncle Ben. I have no problem with a redemption/forgiveness story, but if you do it with uncle Ben, then you ruin the foundation of spider-man because atoning for letting uncle Ben die by doing nothing to stop the man who killed him is spider-man's motivation. You take that away and spider-man can just hang up the costume and retire. It's the same sin someone did to Batman in Burton's movie in 1989, but which Nolan carefully avoided in Batman Begins. How on Earth Raimi could allow this in the movie is beyond me. Alas, Spider-Man just jumped the shark...

If I read into movies too much, you can thank my experiences with the original Star Trek films. Lol.. Every time you watch a Star Trek film you see something new.

I cannot say that I did not like the film, for there were parts that I truely thought were enjoyable.

I agree with Jediphile on his assessment.

SPOILERS!

Yeah I wasn't a fan of Sandman being the real killer but I knew about that before the movie so I didn't let it bother me during the movie.

I guess I didn't really notice this a whole lot but it is a PG-13 movie so I guess in this day its to be expected.

I think they made it pretty clear that it was the suit that was causing Peter to act the way that he was. That part in the movie might have been a little overboard but overall I didn't think much of Peter's emo phase.

When first asked what I thought of the movie I said "meh." It started out good but when Peter brushed his hair down and became emo it was almost embarassing to watch. I know its a comic book character but still, the stuff he did like jumping around that diner and dancing around the streets and stuff are so cheesy. But for the most part the ending made up for that, I was impressed with the battles.

Another thing I didn't like was how short-lived Venom was. Probably Spider-man's biggest nemesis during the comic books and he isn't even in half the movie.

Spiderman 3 was rated PG in Canada. Found it a bit surprising, though.

The movie was good. But, good have used some improvement. Too much was cramped into though. Maybe only Sandman and the Green Goblin in this one, and maybe Venom being introduced at the end and more Venom in a fourth. I dunno, just it could have been produced differently. And what happen to Peter Parker through the movie and acting 'emo', for a lack of a better word. Spidey 3 could've have done without it. Though, I'd give it thumbs up on the final battle scene. I think that was done exceptionally well.

Think what you will, but I personally liked the movie very much. I found it good as the first one, and I liked the fact that Spiderman turned evil which made him super bad-assing cool.

The second movie I found to be rather... depressing. And I especially hated MJ's dress she wore near the end at that Doc Ock fight scene. It was so grotesque X(

I liked the movie, but it wasn't as good as the second one (imo).

There are several things I really liked in the movie, most importantly the Peter Parker's change in character. I really enjoyed him being slightly evil for once.
The humour was good as well, with a lot of funny lines, and the action was great too.

But some scenes, especially concerning the ever-so-troubled relationship between Peter and Mary Jane where painful to watch. It's the 3th movie and it seems like those aspects haven't changed one bit. Boring!

Then the introduction of Sandman. He killed Peter's uncle, what the hell? Like jediphile said, that destroys quite a lot. And it wasn't even necessary. Spiderman doesn't need to get revenge on Sandman, it would have been plausible enough if he just tried to kill him, under the influence of the venom-suit.

I found Venom slightly dissappointing as well, Venom is supposed to be Spiderman's most dangerous opponent. The action in Venom vs Spiderman scenes was just boring though. It should have been the highlight.

Personally, I thought it was awesome. Sure, the emo phase may have been a little embarrassing, but the last 20-30 minutes of the movie completely made up for it. The Spidey/Harry Vs. Sandman/Venom battle was simply incredible.

Great film indeed. What I enjoyed the most was the second round between Peter and Harry. So much hatred in both characters, whoa... There were really strong lines.
And I've been caught out by Peter's final gesture... Catching the pumpkin bomb and throwing it back to Harry. Doing that like he would have shruged of the shoulders.

Harry's death was a bit predictable. He's been bad-ass with Pete and MJ, he was haunted by his father's ghost... They could have found another way to redeem him, no ? Way too easy like this...

I was too deceived by Venom's short appearence. I hope they will find a way to resurect him... I would love to see Carnage/Venom together, especially Carnage's creation.

Interesting cameo of Connors. I hope it means a Lizard in SM4...

I forgot. Who was Carnage again? I don't read the Marvel Comics very much.

The human part of Carnage (don't remember his name, something like Cassidy) was a cellmate of Eddie Brock when the latest has been imprisoned in a psychiatric hopital. Eddie/Venom then escaped, but a part of the symbiot get bounded to the guy-I-don't-remember-the-name. It made another symbiotic enemy for Spidey... While Venom was big and blue (I mean black, but with blue nuances), Carnage looked like a skull and had red nuances.

Edit : got it on Marvel database. Here is Venom, and here is Cletus Kasady/Carnage. Looks like it wasn't in a psychiatric hopital but in a jail.
