I bought a Zune...

And I'm trying really hard not to like it. But, dagnabit, it's growing on me. My ZVM is on the way out and I can't deal with listening to the radio. Too much crap on it now days. My problem is trying to find 240 x 320 walls for the thing. I've been through deviant art and I'm searching GIS to see what I find. Do you guys have have any preferred links for papers this size? I would prefer clean images as I won't be the only one to see this thing in the car.

This is just my opinion....

I have to admit I feel kinda sorry for you. I bet the only other Zune user out there is Bill Gates.

If it plays music, and plays music well then its fulfilled its main goal as an MP3 player.

The rest of the crap is just rather gimmicky.

Ah, Penny Arcade. What would I do without you.

I personally can't critisize Zune owners though. I've never used one so I can't say. I'm perfectly happy with my Ipod though in spite of the few loud mouths who like to bash it because it's popular.

It holds my 6000+ song library with no problem and is easy as anything to keep it organized. Carrying around something that is the size of a deck of cards rather than a huge zipper binder full of CDs is worth the price in and of itself.

So, how does the Zune compare to what it is up against?

And Shepherds we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.

Well, I'm still getting used to it. I loved my ZVM. It was easy to navigate and had a button that I could customize to do what i wanted. Like setting it to "Random Play All". I miss that. My biggest complaint so far is that the Zune will not connect with WMP 11. It has it's own proprietary software which is just a suped up version of WMP. I also wish I could set it as an external HD like I could with the Zen.

The good stuff is that the screen is huge and the picture quality is great. The menu system is very easy to learn and navigate. Once you have the Zune software setup the way you want, everything is quickly transfered. The wireless transfer is really fast and kind of a neat feature.
Edit: I think with time, and if MS gets away from the proprietary software, the Zune could do very well in later generations. The sound is great and I can actually see the album art while driving. I'm pretty happy with it at the moment.

There are few reasons as to why I won't go with an Ipod and it's not because it's Mac. I honestly don't like Itunes. I hate that it converts music to a different format. Also, I worry about how thin the Ipods are. Knowing myself, I would probably sit down with it in the back pocket and crush it. But, I know it's a good machine for some people so I won't knock it either.

But as Anthony said, this thing plays music and that's all that matters. I'm still looking for walls if anyone cares to share!

This is just my opinion....

As soon as your ZVM (I'm guessing Zen Vision M right?) Use it every waking moment of your life. The Zen is horrible, and it breaks easily.

Zen or iPod is what I use, Zune is just...crap.

I meant the Zune is horrible. =P

And I've never had a problem with my 80GB iPod Video, but I've had a crap load of problems with Zune. And Zen is atleast better then a Zune.

Well what do people dislike about it mostly, apart that it bears the Microsoft tag?

Interested myself as my old pod is breaking more than I'd want it to. I want music, and a good scroll system. Zen fails in that latter aspect for me, and I'd much rather not dance around the table again with apple software.

So far, I like it. The screen is huge. The scrolling is kinda cool because when it is flipping through, it has a large letter to the right to show where you are at. The thing that is killing me is the short battery life. Make sure you set the display to black out after 5 secs and to turn off the wireless function when you're not using it. I think MS has a great idea and if they come out with another generation, they need to fix the play for sure thing, let the wireless function connect to a PC/network, and work on the battery life.

This is just my opinion....

I just ordered one, it was $100.

I've tooled around with them at Best Buy and they seem nice enough, plus the new firmware unbricks WiFi.

I'm confident it'll be worth the 100 bucks.

I saw the add for the $100 zune, and I to am honestly thinking about it.

I've never owned an mp3 player and I've always wanted one, but I'm not the type of person to dish out 2 or 3 hundred dollars just for some little accessory.

But now that I have a bit of money a part of me does want to go for the ipod touch instead...

I'm at a loss.

There is supposed to be software and firmware updates this week if I remember right. It should update gen 1 to everything that gen 2 is going to have. Including wifi connectivity to computers for syncing.

Now that is incredibly awesome.

In all honestly, the main appeals of the ipod touch for me were the very large and bright touch screen and the wifi internet connection. But honestly, I'm never at locations with wifi, so it's not that big of a deal, really.

The Zune is looking more and more appealing...

Is woot.com reliable for returns and such?

No. Well, not really. If you buy something you don't end up liking or you have what marketing people call "buyer's remorse," sell it on eBay. It's likely you'll make money doing this and save everyone a hassle. If the item doesn't work, find out what you're doing wrong. Yes, we know you think the item is bad, but it's probably your fault. Google your problem, or come back to that product discussion in our community and ask other people if they know. Try to call the manufacturer and ask if they know. If you give up and must return it to us, then follow on to the next FAQ entry.

How do I return a defective product?
Unless we specifically tell you not to, call the manufacturer of the product you bought. You will likely get a replacement of a new model or better item from them. If we still haven't dissuaded you, email rma@woot.com with your woot order number, the name of the product you are returning, and the detailed problem with the item. We will respond with return authorization by the next business day. Because we aren't likely to have a replacement in stock, you should be prepared for a refund-only option if that's all we can do. Know that return freight will be at your expense. Again, you will probably get a better deal from the manufacturer, or whoever else handling customer service for that product.
Woot has been around a long time, and I haven't heard many complaints about their service. Sam Fisher (from here, not IRL jeeze) just bought a Zune from this deal, actually, so we'll see how that goes.

Impulse buying ftw!

Mostly he's been playing Guild Wars and schooling. Seems to have left LF for good - at least, he doesn't seem interested in coming back, even though he knows I visit. I figure he got burnt out on posting 6k times in just a few of years; he's even still on the first page of highest post counts.

Come to think of it, that's probably a good thing since I seem to have become more and more crazy the longer I stay...

I hope that isn't really a necessity. I rarely go on super long car rides or hikes. I'd really only watch movies for 4 or 5 hours if I was riding down to Indiana or up to Michigan or someplace to visit family.

Oh well. I didn't buy it. I'm cheap. I hope I don't regret it.

Which color did you get?

Also, I bought this with it, a little pricey, but believe me, it's incredible! Zunes, iPods, and Zen Visions are all susceptible to scratching. And if you're like me you'll be incredibly gentile and protective of it, trying to keep it from getting scratched. Well, with an Invisible shield, you'll never have to worry, ever. You can skid this across a table face-down and be totally unworried. I actually have proof it's awesome. I bought a shield for my Zen, and my bro got the same Zen for himself, but no shield. After just a few weeks his was completely covered in scratches, while mine still looked brand-new.

Full body: http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/MSFTZN.html
Screen: http://www.shieldzone.com/item_description/MSFTZNS.html

I bought a full-body shield. It's a little pricey, and from what I understand, don't get the free shipping. I'm not sure but in the small print it says something about it taking around 2 weeks to deliver (!).

I'm not so sure. I'm pretty low on cash, and as much as I'm protective of stuff like that, I'm not sure if I want to dish out 30 bucks for a piece of plastic when I could honestly buy a rubber case at best buy for probably half the price.

But maybe. I dunno.

Just got mine in the mail

Mind you I got it new from Amazon, but it's essentially the same thing many of you are getting.

I really like it, the new software is fantastic as is the firmware. Audio quality is very good, even with the packaged headphones and the little sock for it is quite cute.

Money well spent.

Hey, it HAS been a while!

Anyways...saw this of SD's shoulder and decided pop in for a moment...still waiting for my Zune, hopefully it will come tomorrow, so....

I've had a Creative Zen Touch for almost 3 years now, and it still works like the day I bought it...gotta love 20+ hours of battery life. Yeh.
But I decided I wanted another player...get up there with all the other people with color screens! Yay!

(And I really am not playing GW anymore, kinda moved on for now. In the process of buying a kickass compy with SD so we can play CoD4 and Crysis and stuff and it all look amazing..heh..)

I'll jump back in sometime after I get the Zune.

stuck in an eternity of sunshine and chocolate.

Mine should hopefully come today. I'm so pumped.

Oh, and TiE, I bought the white version.
