Official Harry Potter 7 thread [Spoiler Warning (duh!)]

I will personally IP ban anyone who does not use spoiler tags, and spoils book 7 for me.
Read it. You should be considerate and still use spoiler tags.
~ Phreak

We need an official thread to differentiate from the Harry Potter 5 movie thread.

*ahem*

I, for one, am looking forward to the conclusion of the Harry Potter series with great anticipation and great sadness. I grew up with Harry Potter; I have identified with the story in different ways as I have grown older. Different aspects of the story have spoken to me in different ways as I have entered different times in my life and experienced new things.

The penultimate Rowling story of our favorite wizard in the cupboard under the stairs will coincide with my eventual maturation and journey into adulthood, just as Harry will welcome his seventeenth Birthday come July 31st. The story of Harry Potter is a universal one that everyone can identify with. From the frightening first days at a new, large school to being bullied by those larger than yourself, Harry Potter's story mirrors that of all adolescents and portrays the classic coming of age story with a magical twist.

Harry Potter and Star Wars have always been my favorite stories. They speak to me in different times in my life. I identify and empathize with different characters and understand their feelings. I like to believe that these stories have taught me a lot about life, the mentors within them have shown me a model way to live my life, and my friends contained within a hard-covered book have been as real and meaningful to me as any friend I will ever have.

I know that this final Harry adventure will conclude the story of the coming of age of Harry Potter and friends, and will leave me a better person.

Cheers. I too look forward to the end of Mr. Potter's saga. It'll be one hell of a book.

I don't understand one thing, though, about the Harry Potter world. It's a world full of magic; you can create potions, casts spells, enchant things. More to the point, the story takes place within the wizarding equivalent of a high school, complete with all of the classical cliches that sitcoms have expounded for decades. The question, I beg to ask, is why there aren't more references to drugs and sex?

I mean, considering how emo Harry gets in the novel, I'm a bit shocked he hasn't resorted to sniffing up some magic puff dragon powder (literally) off the belly of, I don't know, Dolly.

But anyway, as far as the story goes, I just hope it isn't Hagrid who dies. He, along with Sirius and Dumbledore, is/was one of the best characters within the books. I'd much rather take a dead Harry any day. At least then he could probably apparate and whine again about how Cho dissed him at the 50th class reunion.

Well, I think the Harry Potter books are guided for a wide variety of audiences, but specifically for younger teens and children. Meaning they would have to be suitable for those age groups. I would think fan-fiction would allow you to explore that territory and do what ever you want to Harry Potter and his classmates and what-not. I'm sure you'll find such stories out there.

I'm stoked about the final book. I just hope it isn't a **** ending. Up to date, the books just keep getting better, for me at least. And we've had characters die that some of us didn't really expect. Sirius' death came rather unexpected. He was introduced in the third book, but we really didn't get to see/read too much about him. He was kind of short-lived.

Then, Dumbledore dies. Probably stunning thousands of Harry Potter readers and the way he did was rather alarming and really inevitable.

So, maybe we shouldn't be so surprised when a character such as Hagrid dies or somebody significant along those lines. Though, we already know that somebody significant will probably die besides Harry or Voldemort/Tom Riddle.

I've already re-read The Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince, so I could be fully updated once the final book comes out. I would tend to agree that Harry Potter has been somewhat significant to me since it's really the only books that I've read in a while. >_> As well as probably my favourite book series that I have read. It's just so easy to get warped into the story.

I'm really looking forward to it. I've got plans to get it at midnight when its released.

Its confirmed that at least one character will die. I'm hoping that its not Ron, Hermione, or Harry. The only reason she'd kill off Harry is so that no one else can write about him ever again.

I'll probably try to re-read book 6 before it comes out, I can get through those books pretty quickly. It will be interesting!

I suppose I'm the only person around here that thinks these stories in book or film form are utter s**t?

There's a good few.

My bets are on at least one of the trinity dying. I think Rowling might deny the Ron Hermione loving.

I agree with you fully RoxStar.

The only thing missing from the books is well, reality. And by that I mean references to sex, alcohol and drugs.

But I guess it would be 'too much' for 11 year olds who read the book. Too many lawsuits filed by parents who are over-protective of their children. Meh.

I'm looking forward to concluding the story. I'll probably reread the Halfblood Prince at work since I've pretty juch forgot all the little things.

And I have no idea who is going to die in the last book.

I'm a bit excited, but I'm not gonna get the book. I want to know how it ends though, considering I was interested when Harry Potter first came into circulation. I don't really care that much who dies, as long as they deserve it. I hope it's that fat cousin of Harry's, or at least something bad happens to him (If he's even still alive, is he?)

Whatever, I do sometimes wonder if Rowling's gonna pull a fast one and make it have a Soprano's ending.

"You cannot win, Potter!" Voldemort yelled, casting ~hooplaspellwhatev~ "I. AM. YOUR. DOOM."
Harry stared back, casting ~differenthooplaspell~ with twice the fury "Not today!" They dueled for a long time and stuff.
Than his wand broke and someone died.

THE END

I only read the 3rd book, but ive already seen all the movies that are out. Once you read the book, the movie doesnt seem to be as good because you realize the movie is all in a mess. Thats what happened when i saw prisoner of azkaban AFTER reading the book. Dont think i'll be getting the last book either, i'll just wait for the movie

Just 11 hours to go til the 21st. The UPS site says the book is at the local facility, so I'm hoping they deliver the book early in the morning so I can take it with me on the road trip.

13 more hours of us, since I didn't pre-order it, I'm just going to go to Wal-Mart when they open, if I can't get it then, I'm sure I'll find a place to get it. I'll be too tired to get it after work tonight.

I didn't read the 6th book because I wasn't interested. And I don't remember anything about the 5th book until I saw the movie. I'm not interested in it.

I do know the ending though:

spoiler:
Lol, Pheak's never gonna read this, huh?

I did... damn you.

Reclaimer, since you know how the book ends...could you describe the ending/big events of the book? And preferably put it in super-secret spoiler tags so that Phreak doesn't freak out and karate chop your ass, as well as being considerate to those who don't want to find out.

Even better, just PM it to me in case Phreak can't control himself, as the preceding post confirms.

The best thing about working in a grocery store?

They got their books today to sell tomorrow up front.

Thus, I spent my break reading the first two chapters. Now I am giddy to actually get my hands on one that i didn't borderline steal

We got our copy at Safeway for $6 cheaper than at the big book-place near our house where they were having a big party thing. Well over 2,000 people in a place that rarely sees over 750-900 people on busy nights. Safeway had plenty of copies and only like 4 or 5 people waiting there.

But anyway, my sister got it and started reading it until 8:00am in the morning when my mom told her to go to sleep.

I finished it very early this morning, I think it took me about 7 hours to read.

I thought it was very well written. Very few parts I didn't like. Dunno if its my favorite book in the series yet, I always have to wait a little while after I see or read something to decide if its my favorite.

That's roughly a hundred pages an hour, or around 1.6 pages every minute, excluding pauses or breaks.

Either you skimmed through the book, or you're partially cyborg. If so, I for one welcome you as our new overlord.

Maybe it was closer to 8, but I don't think that its that extraordinary of a speed; one friend told me he finished in 6. I thought I read it pretty thoroughly, not wanting to miss anything.

I'm still happy to be your overlord though. Me and Mike can share the throne.
