If you put these types of brackets in your pc's name...
If you put your new pc's name in these type of brackets e.g: {Darth Xile} the characters name won't show up in a lot of places. This function was used a lot by the people who made this game to hide some text.

Interesting. That must be one of those text triggered by "And/or" events.

They needed to define a way to comment out things like: {Gameplay programmer says.... blah}. {} for commenting out are found in many Bioware and Bioware-related games.

I believe that it is only to hide certain text.
If you look at 904Kreia when she gasps before she spawns the three sabers.
It says something about her hissing liek a hot stove!

Brackets were inserted into most of the game's dialogues by the devs so they could make comments in them without anything showing up in-game. It's not all that uncommon to see notes like '{make this NPC especially NPCrific if PC has high influence}' embedded in various lines.
Surprising that they'd still allow brackets to be used in character names, though. NWN2 censored profane words from being used in them, so it's obviously not impossible to filter.

Personally I think the name censor is kinda dumb. I would usually don't use profane names... but I would DEFINITELY make up some screwed names just cause some system is trying to pull a censor.

You mean for single-play? You're joking, right? Why on earth would a game company care what I call myself in my own game? MMOs I could see, but single-play?!?
I was thinking that at some point I might buy NWN2. This would dampen that desire.

That's because some large distributors - like Walmart, mainly in the US - insist in such features. They want to have a say in the games they sell.

Is the thing with the brackets only in the second game? I searched dialog.tlk using TalkEd for "{" but it didn't find anything.

I think it uses a .2da file. There's a 'namefilter.2da' file in the KotOR/TSL .2da's, but it might be redundant...
