Eternal rest grant unto her, Oh Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen +

My condolences and prayers, Keyan.

Thanks, everyone. It was really pointless. She was in very good health, but she went in for some really serious back surgery that she didn't need and was obviously very stressful for her at her age. She made it through the surgery but had a stroke a few hours later. She managed to hang on for a few weeks, but she never really improved much.

That's horrible, man!
So sorry to hear that. That's the worst.

Who talked her into the surgery if she didn't really need it? Or was it something she convinced herself she needed?

Well, she's always been really independent. She was going to be 80 years old at the end of this month, but she still lived alone, did all the housework, shoveled the snow (in Michigan!), and kept a very nice garden, all by herself. She was starting to have some problems with her back, such that she couldn't do it all by herself anymore. She knew the risks of the surgery and everyone pretty much advised her not to do it, but I think she just hated the thought of losing that ability to function on her own, so she went ahead with it. And even though it's not really the same thing, she may also have had a false sense of confidence about it because she had some serious knee surgery a while back, but came out of it great.

Ah. OK.

Aaron Rodgers is a great back-up who has his experaince to being backup to one of the greatest QB of all time, and certainly looks, and has done well as the #2. The old #2 is the new #1

Enjoy the ride Aaron, I hope it is a long one

ANd thanks Brett, for everything
I would have to agree, way better for him to leave this year than after another year like last year thats for sure. ANd rodgers played great in the time he was in this year.

cracken: what benchmark? the basics you can run for free on most but have to pay for the big ones last time I did it

the XWA.net forums are down for a bit. Can't say why but it has been a long time coming. SO i have to bug the people here more.

Especially since SOME of you cannot make your turns in a timely matter in Jedi vs Sith against me

Show tonight ran long. Way long. Yikes!

Other than that it was fairly easy and painless... unless modern jazz hurts you in some way. In that case you would have been in agony.

Sleep now.

Sleep good. Yes...

I might be going bowling tonight, actually.

It's been at least 10 years, if not more since I've been... and I was REALLY bad then,.. but it might be fun.

Gonna do my taxes today, and see what kind of money I'm getting back. Then maybe go out this afternoon and see about that TV. If it looks particularly good,.. maybe TVs.

I have also, for better or worse, decided today to approach the female I have had my eye on for a while,.. despite the fact that it could very well end up making things a bit tense and uncomfortable at work for a while (forever?) if the level of interest is not the same.

n1 ed! that's awesome. i'm sobered up and ready for work now. a bit of an upset stomach...gotta go get a bagel or somethin and i'll be fine.

I'm planning on buying a Laptop soon for when i move into my parents....i don't wanna be hauling a desk over there the place is small enough as it is. they want me to get a tv for my room or whatever but i don't think so cause they'd complain cause i'd have to drag ethernet cable across the house to get the xbl hooked up, so i'm seeing if they wanna go half on a half-decent hi def tv, as their big screen tube tv is about 8 years old and it just looks so funny compared to the newer tvs.

Well... I just sent an e-mail to her laying it all out, and asking her to call me if there's any interest in return.

(I know doing it by e-mail is kind of lame... but I can't ever seem to talk to her alone at work without at least 2 other people in the room.)

I hope I didn't just make the worst mistake of my life so far...

Oh well... the damage is done. No going back now.

I hope it works out, because she is awesome.

Yeah... I know. I'm reeeal slick.
Thanks, though.

For what is worth, she and I already have a fairly advanced online relationship. Several casual, non-work related e-mails a day on average; a lot of daily Facebook and/or Myspace back and forth; extended G-Mail chatting...

I probably already spend more time in online communication with her than I even do with you guys.

She, of all people, is already well aware of my tendency to open up and be as verbose in print as I am quiet, reserved, and painfully shy in person.

But even the "Meatspace" relationship has also gotten a bit more active recently. A lot of really flirty smalltalk (or at least what I have been perceiving as such, anyways...), and a few sessions of surprisingly long eye-contact.

Yesterday at work was especially intense in that regard.

I really hope I'm not reading anything into it that isn't there (and Heaven knows, it sure as Hell wouldn't be the first time for me,..) but I just had to find out once and for all...

I hope so.

I really wish I could have found the balls to do it in person,.. but to keep waiting for the perfect moment probably would have meant that it would have never happened.

I'm sure I would have stumbled the words so badly I would have scared her off forever anyway.

Probably would have ended up with harassment charges,.. and maybe even a restraining order, knowing me.

I do feel hugely relieved that it's out there in the open. I was coming home every day after work beating myself up for not saying anything again.

And even if nothing comes of it, at least I won't go around saying "what if?..." I can put it behind me, get over it, and start looking elsewhere.

Ahh... difficult.

She has a thing about having her picture taken... As in she hates it. With a passion. Won't allow it. Period.

I do happen to have a couple of pics that actually include her in my possession, and a few of them are actually currently up on Facebook... but for me to post even a link to any of those here would be an instant deal-breaker if she ever got wind.

So, no. Not this time. You'll just have to take my word on it, or choose to not believe me.

But this waiting for a response (either way...) is just about killing me. Fortunately I have a couple of appointments this afternoon to hopefully take my mind of the wait.

Yeah, waiting - I've been there. While e-mail and messages may seem an easier way to get into the subject, they have the disadvantage of making you wait for a response.

Well... Got my answer.

It doesn't look like it's gonna work out for me. Bummer.

She had her reasons, and they were good ones. I respect and understand that.

I hope this doesn't sour the friendship in any way. I'm going to work hard to make sure that doesn't happen.

Doesn't feel very good right now,.. but a good solid "No thank you" is far better than more months of carrying a torch and making myself sick looking for every little hint or sign. As crappy as it is, it is a relief.

I don't feel as bad as I thought I would at this outcome.

Now I can start looking elsewhere.

aw man that sucks, well at least it wasn't in front of everyone and that would have been uncomfortable for both of you. she probably respects you more for asking her online rather than in person.

i'm still waiting on the response from mine.

work today was long and boring. did sell a nikon d40 though...i was on lunch though when it was sold. those were cool old people. oh yeah and WHY do people WANT pictures of PEOPLE in their CASKETS?!?!?!!?!!!!! like wtf, who would wanna see that????? well one thing, it's better than baby johnny hanging from umbilical cord still bathing in the afterbirth. yummy.

i don't wanna move in with my parents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaghghghghghhhh..... if i can go in the future and think of anything in life i regret, this will be it. -_- i'm so ****ing down about it. o well. can't wait to get my freaking car back.

Sorry edlib, that sucks. Best thing to do now is act like it ain't no thang, you know? Like you got plenty of other stuff to do. That way she won't get all uncomfortable around you, thinking you're still thinking about it.

Well... she's actually sent me a couple of long, heartfelt e-mails about it, saying she feels terrible about having to let me down.

It's nice to think I have touched someone else's life enough in some regard that they feel inclined to think about my feelings.

This is very surprising to me.

I expected, at best, maybe a: "No. I don't think that would be a good idea." And I would have been satisfied with that answer. It wasn't what I wanted or hoped to hear... but it was precisely what I expected to hear.

I never expected her to feel she had to explain herself.

It might be the opposite of what you'd expect; but the fact that somebody thinks enough of me to worry about how I feel after something like this actually makes me think that there might actually be some hope for me after all.

But honestly: I actually feel pretty OK. And I'm not just saying that to be macho or whatever. Getting it off my chest was a huge relief for me.

I still wish the answer had been different... but I unexpectedly don't see it as the end of the world.

The fact that I'm not going to be driving myself crazy thinking "Maybe? Maybe not?" anymore is a huge burden lifted.

If anything, I am really embarrassed for myself that I allowed myself to read all those things into the situation that I now know weren't there.

Logically, I did keep saying internally that it really couldn't be what I thought, and that I was making a mistake here... but just I let my emotions get away from me this time, and I succumbed to wishful thinking.

On the other hand, at the time, for all I knew, I could have been right.

Had I talked myself out of it, not made the move, let the moment slip by, let years pass, only to find out later (and much too late...) that I had been right, and didn't do anything about it at the time... it would have simply destroyed me.

I've done that a couple of times already. I couldn't take it again.

I don't see that reading into things really matters. It's not like you have to wait for some sign that a girl is madly in love with you before you ask her out. You don't even have to be madly in love with her. You just have to think she is a nice person and want to spend a little time with her. No commitments or deep emotions. Just, you know, going on a date, talking, having a nice evening. The deep stuff should develop with time. We, as a society, don't seem to do it this way anymore, which I think is a bad thing. People aren't giving one another a chance because they don't fall hopelessly in love at first sight. Well, this isn't the damn movies, and life doesn't actually work that way.

Well... true.

I was probably way over cautious because of the "working closely alongside every day" factor. I wanted to make sure I didn't to go somewhere I wasn't welcome, and mess up what at the moment is a cozy working environment.

I did want to spend some time with someone who has actually already proven she likes me, and is already willing to put up with a lot of my nonsense. I've already told her this too...

She actually asked me if I wanted to see a movie with her a few weeks back. That was when I started to look for signs in earnest.

I've been attracted to her for a long while, but didn't let myself act on it, or even think seriously about it. Toyed with the idea off and on, but never considered doing it for real.

It wasn't until that moment that I really thought there might actually be something there.

It retrospect, she was just being nice. But it was enough to set me off.

I agree Keyan, dating has turned into nothing more then shopping. Girls seem to rely more on gut checks and feelings to decide who they are going to have a date on, and if you are not cute you dont have much of a chance to gain anything.

It all has become so superficial, it is maddening that looks are the only thing that matter. WHen there is SO much more to a person then that

Well, I think there are other things. I know some hedious-looking guys that get a lot of girls based on their senses of humor, "confidence", and money. Now, none of those things are bad. It's good to have a sense of humor, have confidence, and be a good provider. But it is still missing the point. Is this person honorable, virtuous, and do we have a common vision and goals for life? These are really the essential criteria, and they are the most overlooked qualities of all. Sometmes I think arranged marriages was a better system, instead of letting young, inexperienced, hormone-driven people make the call o_o

i broke down and bought the zen stone mp3 player. gonna try it out in a few.

apparently i was pretty drunk on satrday morning after dennys...my friends repeated a few things i said...that i only thoght i was thinking anyways what i said is that i wanted to **** my assistant manager. i guess it is kind of hilarious, that being the first thing that i don't remember saying while under the influence.

i guess the girl i found on myspace doesn't really want anything to do with me. i posted a comment on her myspace and she removed it. she did read my emails but did not respond to them.

Battle is a pure form of expression. It is heart and discipline, reduced to movement and motion. In battle, the words are swept away, giving way to actions-- mercy, sacrifice, anger, fear. These are pure moments of expression.

Women confuse me, thus I have given up trying. No point in making myself worry and fret. If someone likes me for the arrogant yet gigantic doofus that I am, with out me pretending I'm someone I'm not, then in the end....

I think I win.

Meh, Party hard man!

Women confuse us all. I wonder if they have any idea how much...

I think things are cool with her now. I hope things are cool with her...

There was a surprising amount of e-mail drama back and forth in the last couple of days, but it all seems resolved.
I never intended for her to ever take it so personally. I seriously pictured it going down like...

Her: "No. Sorry." Me: "Yeah, OK. I understand."

And that really being the end of it for the most part.
Maybe a few days of discomfort around each other at work... but even that would work itself out as time passed.

I summed the whole thing up at one point as:
"I thought I was catching a vibe; decided to try to explore it; found out I was mistaken; it just didn't pan out; the end."

I can't be the first guy she has ever had to turn down. Maybe this was all because of the somewhat close friendship that has developed lately?
Or perhaps it's because she's such a nice, empathetic person that she just can't stand the idea of hurting someones feelings in this way might just be more likely.

But, being a guy, and being forced into the initiator role in the homo-sapiens mating dance, that's exactly what we have to force ourselves to face every time we put ourselves out there and take a chance.

Show tonight was pretty easy,.. and very, very cheesy.
