Hey Ike, glad things are pretty good with you.

I wish, though. I'm like...a male soprano or something

I was trying to record some a cappella music earlier, and my complete lack of bass range made it very difficult to get any kind of good mix.

I ran across this video of Rockapella (those guys who did the Carmen Sandiego song) the other day:

Now THAT's a bass!

No.

There was one false alarm when the town's animal control officer call to report a Himalayan the found on the other side of town last week... he started describing it, and I started to get my hopes up a bit... right up to the point where he said: "He..."

Lila was most definitely a "she." The cat they found was was confirmed male by a vet... so, that was kinda the end of that.

It's more than a little sad... but things are back to normal now... and perhaps it's all for the best. Especially now that it looks like I may be spending even more time away from home, that would have left mom with all the clean up after the cat.

Thanks. No: This is my very first experience with seeing a mom.

So, yeah... my life has suddenly gotten even more complex than it already was.

Gonna take it as slow as I can. After years of being out of the game in any way shape or form, to jump in at full speed to a situation as complicated as this is pretty frightening. While I don't feel like I want to get back out there and start "playing the field" again,... I also don't think I want to set myself up for a "lifetime commitment" right away, either. (However: if, over time, it just leads naturally to that, I think I might be OK with it... I'm just not going into it with that on my mind. I hope she isn't either...)

On the other hand: I do like her; I think she's pretty sexy; and I don't want to hold back too much on something that could be really good for me right now (or at least a whole lot of fun...) and risk scaring her away, just because I'm a bit uneasy with the situation.

It will require a delicate touch.

I've worked their concerts a whole bunch of times. They seem pretty cool.

Their sound engineer is a little bit of a weenie, though...

A little of both.

We have a digital mixer... and all he ever does is complain about it all day when he's here: That he just can't do what he wants on a digital mixer. (Even though he is only using about 8 channels of the mixer at most.)

He insists that we drag out and hook up all our old external reverb and effects units for him when he shows up (although we have 8 of the same or better built right into the console) because he "needs" to be able to change a setting easily on the fly, and he can only do that on a box.

Plus... his personality is a bit... weenie-ish.

Not that he's ever an outright jerk or anything... but there's something about how he seems a tiny bit condescending to us (something I face with three-quarters of the touring tech guys that come through, actually...) rubs me the wrong way.

But it's just another gig... and we always get through it.

in terms of your equipment, can you literally say that its 'your' equipment, due to you being responsible for it?

then you should be able to say when can and cant be plugged into it

Yeah... but how it works is this:

Promoter wants to put on a show in Boston.
Promoter contacts band that will sell enough tickets to pay the band and production costs, and still make a profit.
Promoter books appropriate local venue to put on the show, and fill enough seats to make the aforementioned profit.

The band sends the promoter technical rider: A list of technical requirements, that if aren't met, means the band can pull out of the contract without playing, but still get paid.
Promoter forwards this onto the venue.
Venue tech staff tells the promoter if we can pull it off with what is in house.
If not: Promoter has to rent appropriate gear to fill the band's requests.

If we can possibly pull of the band's needs with what we have, then we are totally expected to do so. The promoter isn't interested in spending more of the profit, or botching the contract completely and losing ALL the money.

So the expectation is always that we get as close to fulfilling the band's demands as we can humanly do so, without having to pull in more gear.

If we refuse to do so when we easily could, that will probably mean the promoter will probably demand his money back, certainly stop booking shows at our venue, and most likely spread the word to others to not book our hall.

There's certain things that are impossible demands to meet (replacing our board with an analog one for the day, or removing our console and/or PA speakers... all of which are demands that have come up in the last couple of weeks...) but we are up front about those things when we see the rider, and my boss, the promoter rep, and the band's manager have to go into negotiations at that point to resolve a solution that will work.

But dragging out our old, funky, out-of-date FX units and hooking them up certainly isn't an impossibility... a 20 minute job at most. A bit of a pain-in-the-butt... but totally not worth getting into a huge fight over on the day of the show, and killing a bunch of business over.

Does he really need many effects for an a cappella group? Shouldn't that be pretty basic?

Yes.

But the reason (he claims, anyways...) that he needs the hardware FX, and the analog board, is so that he can be turning up an effect on one voice, while turning down another, and quickly change effects patches and settings on the fly, while tweaking all the EQ settings on each vocalist's mic differently for each song at the same time... and THAT'S something that you just cant do on a digital board easily!

It's all about all the tiny, almost subliminal changes he makes over the course of the concert that keeps the audience's interest. It would be too boring otherwise...

(All his own words, by the way... and I've only heard the spiel 5 or 6 times over the last couple of years.)

Like I said: A little bit weenie.

well at least he takes pride in his job lol

i'm bored today...my grandma was over, she left, we sold my sister's fridge, i went to her place to deliver the $$$, got to play rock band and watch 'get smart'. now i'm bored.

last night i decided to sent that girl i met last month a text message asking what's up. apparently she deleted my number cause she replied 'who's this?'

i wanna play oblivion, but my parents are on the tv watching lame stuff so i am just gonna have to drown my eyeballs at the computer.

i got a few of my old friends on facebook. it's definitely weird getting in touch with the past. i should've just left it alone, but nooooo i had to go and contact them...apparently nobody from my past gives a flying **** about me.

i need to find something to do i'm so ****ing sick of just sitting at home on my days off not knowing what to do. i'd go to the gym but it's sunday and they're closed of course. -_-

Ed; I had a question about getting a guitar setup. My Les Paul has never actually been set up, and I was wondering where to go for that? Would a retailer, like Guitar Centre just overcharge you? What about the Great House of Guitars, since I am in Rochester, NY?

Thoughts?

IMHO: Smaller shops are generally better.

If you can find someone who just does instrument repair and doesn't actually sell them, that is usually your best bet.

Although a lot of the smaller guys are often bought out by the giants like Guitar Center when they move into the area, so it's possible that their guys are really good.

Call around and get an idea of the price range. You don't want to pay too much (anything over a $100 seems high for a basic setup...) but also don't go with the lowest bidder, either.

You and Crack will have to start a band. The Crack Kookees...

Nice that you have a guitar now.
Sucks very much how it came to you man.

Ugh. Tired.

So: we met nearby where she works. Had a quick dinner (which turned out to be only appetizers, and a drink for her, since she was running a little behind, and had to grab the kids back from the ex before it got too late.)

I went home for a bit, then went back to her place later, after she told me the kids were down for the night.
I grabbed a DVD of "American Gangster" which I picked up the other day when I saw it in a bargain bin. Neither of us had ever seen it... Good movie, and she really liked it (she usually only gets to watch kids films, and usually the same ones over and over and over and over...) but a little too long. I really had hoped to be home and in bed around 11-ish, and that kept me out until after midnight.

Oh well... it was a good time... though I'll be paying for it all day today.

I'm not sure where we are going with this. I like her... but my gut feeling is that the schedules will just never work out, and it will be far too difficult to keep it going for very long.

As long as she isn't looking at moving towards anything too serious too soon, it might work out that we can occasionally meet up like this, around our work (and her mom) schedules, have a bite to eat, and watch a DVD.

If she's looking for it to be more, however, I might just have to tell her to keep all her options open, and see if she can find another nice guy who's working life might line up better with hers. Before we get into something that it's going to be way too difficult for either of us to extract ourselves out of gracefully.

When I got home, I realized I had missed a call on my cell while we were watching the film: Someone reminding me that I was supposed to be at work at 9 am this morning.

Ouch.

I had forgotten all about it. It's a good thing they called, otherwise I'm sure I would have spaced and blown it off... but not what I wanted to hear. As it was, I was thinking I had to get up at 6 in order to get the trash out... but with that I had to set the alarm earlier to 5, so I can be ready to get on the subway before 8.

Hooray.

Curling last night was interesting. Had some friends from Illinois surprise me by showing up. To watch the game. They took pics and video, so i might show them.... you all get to see my ugly mug. Didn't do well in the game... completly out matched by two of the opposing players, and there was a problem with some negative ice.

Bonus was one of the friends was wonderfully huggable and squished very nicely

well, on my way to possible employment prospect, i managed to have a 'run in' sort of speak with the rear bumper of another guy's car

most all that was is that my bumber got a little cracked, and the plastic grill got broke a little
he's car has a lasting memory of my car's paint and a couple dents

we didnt even bother to exchange numbers

*shrug*

Scar, that is nice, too bad some people cannot be that way.

I had a minor fender bender myself a long time ago. Sad thing was the person who I ran into had a high rear bumper and it smashed my passenger side headlight. No damage to her car except some barely noticeable scuffing on her car... oh ... and her precious little lap dog got scared. She immediately called the cops and wouldn't hear it any other way. Cops show up and when they went to go talk to her, her little precious nearly attacked the officer.

She decided not to press charges and I got away clean.

Gah! Long day!

Got to work at 9. Had no idea what was going on. Nobody had an answer for me either. Confusion everywhere. It was a clinic involving the guy who produced all the BIG U2 albums... but beyond that I knew few specifics.

I'm my exhausted, mushy-brained state, it took me a while to really suss out the situation.

Got through it somehow.

Helped set up the show that's rehearsing tonight. Got the monitor desk configured and ready for the student to mix. He's never done it... but he's a bright kid, and picked up fast. I'm sure he'll be fine. Stayed as long as I could handle... but then I had to get home so I can get some rest. I just can't push it like I used to.

I'm waiting until 9 to call my lady friend once the kids are asleep.

I thought about going to see my friend from work play with his band tomorrow night... but they don't go on until 11... and that would just be too brutal for me now.
I like the guy, and his band isn't bad... but there are some limits to what I can handle.

Instead, I might head over to her place again: She offered to cook dinner (steak tips and butternut squash...) if I bring over another DVD.

Sounds like a deal.

i hate car accidents they piss me off so bad...i've been in 3, the first one was when Fable 1 came out, i was heading back from the mall cause they didn't have the game in yet, and was following some lady's van and there was construction on the left side of the road and i was kinda watching that and tailing the van and didn't see the stop sign, just a little bump, she was cool about it at least. scared the **** out of me, my parents still don't know about that one. hehehe

second one was when my parents moved up here and i was going to get some food from wendy's, well there's an intersection and a stop sign that you must stop at before merging right, and well some kids smashed into the back of my buick, i am like 'WTF' i get out and they're freaking out bad, and i look at my car and NO VISIBLE DAMAGE AT ALL to my bumper, their front end was pretty ****ed. i managed to slip away from that scene.

Then the 3rd time someone didn't yield coming onto a intersection, there were cars in my left lane blocking any view of that intersecting lane-which had a stop sign and the lady should've waited for those people on my left side to go before she cut me off, i smashed into the rear passenger door, left a nice dent in it.

then my last accident was with the stupid non-functioning transmission acclaim...i took it out on the road, and uh transmission failed, so i coasted into the opposing lane to get into this parking lot to turn JUST AS A TRUCK CAME AROUND ME. that was adrenaline rush...i yelled at the guy cause it was a double yellow line. i let him go though...tried to get my car back over to the house and cop came in the process of that and i got cited for not having valid inspection sticker (he wouldn't accept the fact i had just put registration and insurance onto it, and was taking it to the ****in garage for inspection).

i take those experiences and apply them to my driving....

when i had my ranger i was coming off that intersection the kids hit me at, well there was another truck following me down that road, going very fast and after i got off the intersection, he started tailing me again, buncha cars stopped in front of me and i look in my rear view and he's NOT SLOWING DOWN FOR ****, i managed to pull out of the way and all i hear was a loud squeeling sound and a smash and i saw smoke and dust flying. moron.

then a few weeks ago i had my mom in the car coming back from he post office and i almost ran into the back of someone cause he decides to stop on a hill cause the person in front needed to make a right hand turn and the car behind me was not stopping, so i kinda had to swerve around em.

then like the next day or so i picked a coworker up for work and someone wasn't paying attention to the ****ing lights and no signal or anything and i had to slam my brakes all the way down...

when i drive i try hard to pay attention to everything around me, as if everyone was going to pull out of the driveway at once without looking, as if everyone was going to go through that stop sign or red light. it's saved my ass quite a few times.

not saving i'm the most safest driver...ask my friends and family they HATE riding with me at the wheel.

work was ****in boring today as expected. helped set a tv up, that was the excitement of the day....actually the excitement of the day was sabotaging a customer's cell phone...we have this annoying customer that comes in, a few years ago she HIT an associate (who recently died), and was kicked out of the store. not sure why she's allowed back in...but anyway she wanted a micro-sd card for her cell phone, and wanted ME to put it in and show her how it worked, etc. so i played nice. then she got nit-picky and wanted me to change the font to be bigger and the time but didn't know how to do the time, so instead i set her alarm to go off at 04:30. and she has an annoying ringtone and wanted it to ring loud when she gets a call, so it's at max volume.

payback is a bitch!!

I started Mage's Guild up again on Oblivion. I'm finally in the Arcane University. this should be fun.

I'm planning on picking up Fable 2 on thanksgiving, since that's my next payday. I heard alot of good things about it. I'll either do that or just save my money...probably end up saving it for the hunting trip.

Almost to the new content in World of Warcraft on my Death Knight.... giant pain in the ass to catch up to the rest of my friends who are plowing through the new stuff... *sigh*

So I got the T.V in home tech job with Best Buy, but they won't pull me out of the store until January, which sucks because I totally could use the money.

And one of my good friends had a good friend of hers commit suicide. So I've been dealing with that for the past few days. *ugh*

so,...

tonight i had over the only guy who was with my bro during car accident

he among most people did the impossible under the conditions:

with a collapsed lung, kicked out the window of the car, and tried as best that he could administer CPR

obviously everly one knows what happened, but i love the guy alot for attempting, and everyone in my immedate famaily says the same.

we had a few drinks and a few smokes, but still it was nice for him to come by

i gave him the guitar.

That was a class move. I mean that seriously.
I'm sure that gesture meant a lot to both of you.

Went over for dinner. She's a good cook. Her place is too small for a dining room setup, or even a kitchen table, though... so we ate off of our laps. I didn't mind.

We watched "The Village" and then "Austin Powers"

We were really getting comfy, perhaps even a wee bit snuggly watching the 2nd movie under a blanket together when one of the kids woke up, got out of bed, and joined us.

Uhhh,.. yeah.

It wasn't all that uncomfortable, awkward or anything... but I'm sure glad it hadn't progressed beyond that point at that time,.. because then it sure would have been.

those cockblocking children! j/k

work was good today, 1-10, usual boring, but not too bad. i wasn't too tired.

i'm probably going to stick at my job for a while longer...as long as i'm getting 40 hours a week i'll be fine.

i'm trying to focus more on other things besides getting a girlfriend right now.

i'm having alot of trouble going to sleep because i can't stop thinking about what i want to do with my life, I have so much bull**** on my mind it's driving me crazy. stuff like my job, people i associate with, old friends, my past, etc.

This is where it gets weird

I haven't been able to maintain an interest in gaming, i don't even feel like buying games or any huge amount of excitement when cool games come out (fable 2, fallout 3, force unleashed, etc). i haven't been out hunting too much this year, which is also strange, because i really like going out and doing that.

Stuff that i didn't really do last year that i have been doing within the last 4 months:

going to night clubs, drinking, and trying to get a girlfriend.

i think i should find another thing or two to fill in my time that i usually spend being bored. (boredom=4-5 hours, usually between the hours of 10pm and 3am) maybe i should just go to bed when i get home, this will enable me to wake up roughly 6 hours before work and go do other actvities, such as hunting, going to the gym, going to the library (haven't done that in a long time), and i'll be more alert when i go into work. funny, come to think of it, i was much more alert/awake when i'd go to bed at 11-12 instead of 2-3...and didn't have as much of a feeling of loneliness.

so i think i'll give this idea a try...before i move on to more drastic measures (the no eat/no sleep/going dark thing i was talking about 1-3 weeks ago)

Just an update...I'm averaging 182 in my winter league, and had a 591 last week (though I really should've had the 600 series, which would've been my first in this league). Tonight should be interesting; the league is giving a $20 prize to the bowler in each average class (there are 6, a men's A, B, and C, and a women's A, B, and C; I'm in the men's Class A, of course) with the most pins over average on the night. Wish me well.

so im continuing to move back into my old room.
mainly alot of stuff im putting away in boxes, like my military stuff, maybe i should burn it, i donno

moving my bro's stuff out was a hard hit on my mom
although even when i got the room rearranged and all, i still find a few things of his, not much left.

i gave the guitar to his 'best' friend, i put that in quotes cus they spent like 100+ hours a week together. he was in the car when it crashed...

not much more i want to go on that subject...

we're all just greatful of him for doing what he could

that being said, i think everyone should start that movement that cracken suggested to me after the funeral "should strategically remove all curves int he roads"

i think he literally ment bomb them, then send in special ops to occupy and reform them or something o.O

A guy I work with almost every day in my department passed away this morning of a heart attack.

It's been an emotional day around here.

another boring day at work. i don't expect tomorrow to be any different. -_-

i'm off saturday, so probably going squirrel hunting at someone's farm. yay. (not looking forward to the cold -_- )

i've gone dark as far as cell phone....my minutes ran out, and i'm not caring anymore.

there's 2 girls i'm somewhat interested in at work but my friend is already ****ing that up for me. i've already figured out his plan and ****. he's a department manager so he can change his hours and stuff so he's working when they work, it's pretty ****ing annoying. he tries too ****ing hard and the way he acts you would think he's like 13. i don't feel sorry for him anymore. he's such a piece of ****. but...he's still my friend. =\ It just sucks cause girls don't wanna hang out when he's around.

I'm going to go to bed early again tonight. I'm slowly heading back to a 11pm bedtime.

I tested my blood pressure today...it said i had hypertension phase I. need to get off the caffeine and back onto the water. need to go to bed earlier and go to the gym in the mornings. need $$$ for a membership first though. think i'll start that after deer season, and go every day for 3 months.

Death Knights are for retards. Everyone does everything better. Even their quests. Yeah the Battle of Light's Hope was awesome and the run into *Capital City* was awesome when they were calling you a murderer and so on. But then bigger things happened.

I was at the Wrathgate. I was there, man. I was there.

Good news at work, after four months we go from 9+ hour days to 8 hour days. There was much rejoicing

Work yesterday looked like it was going to be a disaster (2 Latin bands... one with 25 strings that needed to be miked...) on paper... but turned out to actually be not so bad. Easy, actually.

Sounded good, too.

Work is still emotional... and now my department has to deal with picking up the pieces and getting through the rest of the semester figuring out everything he did.

He ran the concert booking office, personally dealing with all the applications, scheduling, paperwork, and promotion for every college-sponsored event on campus... at least 1,500 events. He was on campus in that position for over 25 years, and he invented that position, created all the systems that were in place, and never really showed anyone else exactly how it all ran.

It's going to be a long, difficult, and chaotic transition period.

I'm taking the day off to chill a bit and tackle a few things around here. If my friend is free, I might go out later tonight... but she wasn't sure she would be able to get away.

I've suddenly been finding a lot of people on Facebook that I haven't seen in over 10 years. A bunch of people I knew back when I used to attend church.
I looked for many of them before, but never came across any.
Now in the last week it seems, I've found a couple of dozen of them all at once.

Kinda strange and surprising...
