Grim Fandango Crashes After Intro Movie

Hello,

Recently I reinstalled GF to play it again. Before I was able to play it flawlessly on XP after some work arounds and such that I cannot remember now. The problem I had before, was that the game crashed right after the intro movie.

It's doing it again, and I've completely forgotten how to fix it. The game works in windowed mode with the unofficial launcher but it's buggy and has stuttered sound. Besides that I don't want to play in windowed mode.

I really wish I remembered how I fixed this last time, but I cannot. Also: I've tried copying all the files from the CD with no avail. The game is patched.

Please help me out!

I'm running:
Windows XP
Core2Duo 6600
Nvidia GeForce 8600GT

what's the launcher? ScumV?

Launcher is the regular launcher that comes with the game.

My game wouldn't run on my new computer with Nvidia 8300-something - the screen would dissolve into lines straight after the initial cutscene. It was fixed by turning off directdraw and direct3d acceleration, by going run -> dxdiag (and finding them on the tabs there). Might be worth a try if it could be your graphics which is spitting the dummy.

You could probably reinstall it. Then install the launcher again with putting all the game files on the harddrive. It could probably work.

Try the solution here, it let me run the game when I upgraded my 6800GS to an 8800GT.
