Instant Noodles and you

The quick alternative to lengthy food prep and the staple diet of many a swamped college student, Instant Noodles are cheap, void of any nutritional value, and (generally) loaded with sodium. Which is exactly why we love them. (throw in some good ol' brain-warping MSG for good measure)

What are your favorite brands and flavors of instant noodle?
Or perhaps you don't like them?
Maybe you'll stock up for TOR? (noodles are perfect for MMOs)

My personal favorite is IndoMie's Instant Mi Goreng. That stuff is flipping legend and kicks the snot out of those pathetic 'normal' noodles. ('chicken flavor' etc)
They come in at least 10 different flavors and in various packs (single, 5 pack, and 30 pack )
'Mi Goreng' is Indonesian for "fried noodles", so even though restaurants have dishes listed as 'mi goreng', asking for 'mi goreng' is like going to McDonalds and asking for 'burger'.
'Mi Goreng' is Indonesian and 'Mee Goreng' is Malaysian.... (or have i got it the other way around-?)

These particular noodles have a growing reputation and a fan base (check your social networking site), with it being sold in many countries including Australia, Canada, the UK, Indonesia (duh), Malaysia, The Middle East, New Zealand, Singapore and the US. For a complete list of countries, check out it's Wiki

Perhaps you've tried it but dont know what its called, so here's a reference for you:

[edit] New question: how many packs/cups of your noodle of choice do you have in one sitting?

mfw I read the Revan novel

it is not a cry of joy.

I'm a fan or ramen, although I eat more easy mac, simply asian, bowlapatite and other overly simplistic meals

I prefer this brand of awesome
Show spoiler

And if you decide to pick it up next time your at wal-mart or other place, Has I got the recipe for you!
First, you get a bowl (I prefer plastic ones!) then fill it with water, stick it in the microwave, and cook for 3 minutes.
Next, take some garlic salt and pepper (and if you like spicy food, throw in some crushed red peppers too!)
and put them in, next, grab the package, open it, take the sauce package, tear it open, and pour it in, next, crush the noodles or don't, then stick em in, and cook in the microwave for 3 minutes, then YOU ARE DONE AND GETZ TASTINESS!!!

I should really try cheesecake someday...

Ramen is the best, and my favorite is the oriental variety. Judging by how much I eat of it, I'll probably have a heart attack by 30.

By the way, the tags are awesome.

I got so sick of Ramen in the first few weeks of college this year because I had it so much, I haven't had it since. I love mac and cheese though so I make that quite a bit, including EasyMac.

**** Yeah Udon!

I stopped eating Ramen entirely after I found this stuff. Its more filling, tastes better, and you get a better bang for your buck.

Home made noodles are best! {though Cup-of-noodles is nice when there are nothing else}

I think because I make my own noodles, I should create a theme song...."NOODLE MAN!!"

Top Ramen can be good as well, though homemade....

Around here, there's pretty much just Maruchan and Top Ramen available at the supermarkets. I've never really been able to tell the difference between the two because whoever gets them (including me) usually just picks up whatever they see first.

I don't think I've ever tried a flavor that I didn't like, but Oriental is probably my favorite, whichever brand makes that, if not both. Creamy Chicken's a nice flavor, but it's apparently a highly volatile concoction, as if I leave it alone for three minutes at the stove, it's pouring itself into the air vent in the floor. -_-

Hell yeah! Indonesia rocks! Indomie comes from Indonesia. That's why it's called "Indo-mie". Indomie is the best noodle ever created in the world. Indomie wins this hands down.

And don't worry, you're right. Mi is for Indonesian, Mee is for Malaysian.

It's used interchangeably. The spelling pretty much depends on the vendor:P

There are more in Indonesia. Mie Sedap (badass), Sarimi, Maggi (nice), Supermie (I love the Soto Mie flavor), Kare (state of the art), PopMie (another badass), Mie Cap 3 telor (I hope the name is correct, this is good too), and more.

It has been stated in EYD (Indonesian languange rules) that it is not Mee. And all of you probably never try Kare. Awesome flavor.

Well, Asian noodles period, practically rule the noodle market. Now, I don't know about the Indonesian noodles, but it sounds like something worth trying.... The flavors sound very unique.

Well, technically it's not mee in Malay either (iirc) but mangling language is another Malaysian specialty! Hurray! I'm guessing that kare=curry, so don't diss my curry-eating prowess

I may prefer fresh noodles, but that is not the point of this topic! Why, today I just had my yummy Maggi Mee for lunch! *slurps*

just that: their noodles! so far i think ive tried these noodle dishes... *grabs menu* their Hokkien Chow Mein, King Prawn Stir Fried Noodles, and of course, their Malaysian Mee Goreng, with the mee goreng topping them all.

theyve got different flavours of mee goreng: vegetarian, seafood, and chicken. last time i had their seafood version which was mindblowingly delicious (its not just a shrimp here or there, they really *stuff* it it with seafood!) and on the way out i spotted a tantalizing picture of a dish which is now the next one i shall eat. i cant remember what its called, but looking at the menu i think its either Char Kuey Teow or Wat Tan Ho Fun (<-- hey look, a title with no spelling mistake red lines!)

my dad's having some instant mi right now... im geting hungry, but its the last pack!
time to stock up again...

Mee Goreng is indeed excellent. However, would Pat Tai be counted among noodles?{I think that's the spelling}

Well since my school provided me with a wonderfull kitchen, I haven't had to resort to instant noodles. Oh wait, they didn't even provide me with a kitchen for the first weeks, so I lived on wonderfull Russian noodles, made with a "borowed" cofee machine. Once, a friend got me some Maggi ones which tasted heavenly, though considering my diet, that might not be true.

Helpful!
I think that noodles are mans best friend.

I had some warm top ramen for dinner this evening. It is cold outside.

When I first started nursing school, I got a job very quickly but I missed the pay-period by 1 day, which means that I worked 4 weeks before seeing my first paycheck. This meant after paying for tuition, room, and board at nursing school, along with books and uniform, I had virtually zero money for about, you guessed it, 4 weeks. The nursing school dorm had a gigantic kitchen with industrial sized fridges and freezers, so I got the leftovers from the nursing school welcome picnic that they were just going to toss in the trash, and stuck those in the freezer. With the little bit of money I had, I got peanut butter, generic white bread, mac and cheese, and a ton of ramen noodles--a meal for 10 cents when you're poor is A Good Thing. I had ramen noodles every day for about 4 weeks, sometimes twice a day. With the leftover frozen chicken, baked beans, and some fruit from the picnic, I had something in the vicinity of bordering on maybe nutritious once a week. The first thing I did with my first pay check was to buy some real food, and I never ate ramen noodles ever again.

From MST3K's spoof of "Hercules Unchained"--heard as Roman medic soldiers carry off an unconscious Greek Hercules on a 1950's Army green canvas stretcher: "Hi, we're IX-I-I. Did somebody dial IX-I-I?"
