Got almost nothing done at work today.

Don't know how it happened... but at the end of the day, I looked back and went: "Wow! What a waste..."

Show tomorrow. I guess I'll have to redeem myself.

had a cool birthday i guess. just sat around playing video games most the day. got a few achievements unlocked in bad company. my sister got me another wireless xbox 360 controller...comes with a headset, so that's a plus. my parents got me a triple a membership...and are gonna get me a gps for my car.

watched constantine on tv. forgot how good that movie was.

i found my zen stone mp3 player...gotta bring it in from the car and upload more songs to it.

drank 3/4 a 2 liter of mountain dew...good stuff! should've got the vodka but i didn't want to annoy everyone..

R15 if you want to discuss the failings of the former or current Presidential administration we can do it via PMs or E-mails. It is obviously too emotional of a subject to discuss on the forums

what the **** are you talking about? (seriously? )

thinking of what to do with this girl tomorrow. i'm thinking of shooting some pool or bowling, going to movies, dinner. i dunno. i'll just make it up as i go along, that always works best for me.

edit: the controller doesn't work. darn. just get the green light flashing, tried new batteries, same thing. =\

just watched Max Payne. pretty good movie, a bit different than the game, but not too much different. liked the actor they chose for the part.

Well... good luck with that, dude! I guess it would be nice to see something good work out for at least one of us, if not for all of us...

Long day at work yesterday. Easy... but it just seemed to go on forever.

Maybe I'll put in a short one today to make up for it. I'm tired, and probably a bit on the cranky side.

Well, at least it's Friday. That's got to count for something

I've got to head over to a piano student's house after work tonight and make sure she's all ready for her recital tomorrow. If she's anything like me, she's already nervous as heck I used to get so nervous before a performance I could barely function when it came time to play. It wasn't until I started playing in front of hundreds of people every week that I was able to master that and learn to just relax. Hopefully she will get through it OK

Yeah... I still feel butterflies.

I don't play to audiences enough to get comfortable, though I'm better than I once was.

The first time I improvised a solo on stage, I blacked out. Seriously. I have no conscious memory of being on stage from the time I hit the first note and the spotlight went on me, until the sax player took over a minute later.

I watched the video afterwards, and it was pretty bleak.

I don't get that bad anymore... but I'm usually pretty jittery at the start... usually at least until I make the first serious flub. Then I always seem to relax and enjoy it after that. I guess I figure: "Well... I've already ****ed it all up! Who gives a **** now? Might as well just blow through the rest of it..."

It's also dependent on how prepared I am. If I know the music forwards and backwards, I'm a lot more relaxed than if I just learned the music, or am seeing for the first time on stage and trying to sight read my part. Then I'm a wreck... and usually don't recover from it.

I even used to feel a bit of performance anxiety when mixing a big, high-profile show in front of a large crowd too... but I'm WAYYYYYY over that now. If I've had a decent sound check, then it doesn't even phase me.

Wiped out today. Early to sleep, I imagine.

Work was slow, but not altogether unproductive.

A whole weekend off. Probably my last for a long while. Better try to take advantage of it... somehow...

That's all I liked to drink when I did drink. Never really liked beer.

Gonna make that run to IKEA today. Then work on the cellar. Clean up the walls and floor, build those bookcases, re-organize.

All the warning lights on my car's dashboard went out, and it's running smooth again. Just didn't like the really cold weather I guess. Probably a sensor malfunction brought on by below zero temps. (Although that seems a strange sensitivity for a Germanic car... but my Audi eventually developed a similar ailment as well...)

Well... that saves me a time-consuming and costly trip to the dealership repair shop.

I'll probably have to fix it eventually... but now it can wait until I can afford to be without the car for a while.

edlib, would you happen to know what would cause an electric guitar to constantly go out of tune sharp? I wouldn't have thought this is physically possible, but I will tune the guitar in question and within a minute or two most of the strings will have gone sharp, by as much as a half-step. It's a cheap-o guitar, Fender's cheap brand...Squire or Esquire or something like that, if that makes a difference.

Hmmm... funny. But the strings could be getting caught up on the material of the bridge and/or nut and/or string trees, and not sliding back down to pitch.

First thing I would try is to graphite all the nut and bridge slots, and any string trees, then stretch all the strings even more than usual before trying to tune.

Is it a floating trem bridge? If so, tighten all the springs until the bridge rests against the body, and it takes a lot of effort to dive down with the bar. That way, there's no chance the bridge can pull the strings sharp at all.

Powerful pickups placed to close to the strings can actually pull them sharp, too. Back all the pickups off a turn or 2.

Rough or uneven frets can do a number on strings... though I doubt it could make them sharp.

The other place to look is the tuning pegs. Perhaps they are slipping... though it would be odd for them to slip sharp, perhaps it wouldn't be impossible. Lube them up, and then tighten and adjustment screws.

Other than that, all I can think of is that the neck is actually moving around after you tune... which is a serious job. Perhaps you can make sure all the neck bolts are seated properly, and that the truss rod bolt (if you can get to it) is seated tight.

Good luck.

All else fails: bring it to a qualified repair guy, and have a complete set up done.

Went to IKEA. Bought 5 more packs of tiles as spares. A LOT cheaper now than when I bought it... and well stocked too.

I probably would have saved close to $200 if I had waited.

Oh well... it's done now.

Worked in the cellar a bit tonight, cleaning up and organizing. Still have a long, long way to go, though.

I'll do some more tomorrow.

Did repairs on kitchen sink today. (Required 2 different trips to Home Depot, and one to Lowe's to get the correct necessary part.)

Did grocery shopping.

Started laundry.

Worked a bit on the cellar. (A bit more clean-up, and got one of my bookcases built.)

I was supposed to go out to a card game tonight... but 2 of the 4 that were going to be in attendance bailed out, so it was called off to be re-scheduled.

Watched a show on "Nature" all about skunks that made me happy.

Not exactly the most exciting day in the universe's history... but it felt productive, if nothing else.

My Birthday party wasn't too bad.

A friend "C" brought her hubby "G", and even had two other friends stop by that even brought their kid. We all went out on the Ice and tried to do some curling. The Kid really liked it (even tho he doesn't like sports) and wants to try to do it himself next season (ROCK!) Then I ordered pizza for them all. My parents showed up and the first friend, friends (with the kid) left early. But my Dad was able to talk astronomy with "G", and my mom was able to talk quilting with "C" while watching me curl, and beat my opponents 10 to 4.

After the game we had cake, and one of the opponents made cookies. C and G had a LOT of fun and invited me down to their place (in Rockford IL) to stay the night and do some star gazing with a 10 inch F/15 Telescope I accepted their offer and plan to visit in March after curling

playing army of two and gears of war on the hardest difficulty levels available. army of two is cool as in the buying and upgrading weapons...gears of war is taking some getting used to.

Once you master taking cover, it all falls into place. And it's all about the co-op. Gotta have a buddy to help out.

Is that GoW 1 or 2, by the way?

I'm letting someone borrow my copy of 1 right now, otherwise I'd be willing to go through it again on co-op.

I hated Army of Two. The control scheme and camera is the same way Gears of War is and I HATED that.

Third Person shooters For the LOSE.
