Good racing game
Hello all, I just traded in a bunch of games at gamestop and have an $80 credit smoking in my wallet. As a gift to my bros, I'm gonna grab a racing game.
I don't want a super realistic sim (Gran Turismo, I'm looking at you). I just want a GOOD fast paced racing game with local split screen capabilities (preferably for 4, but just 2 will work) for the PS3 or X360. As a point of reference, our old standby was Burnout 3 Takedown for the PS2, but we need something next gen. Combat racing, off road, whatever, just as long as it's quality with local split screen.
So, hit me with your recommendations...I need to recycle my gaming money.
And Shepherds we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti.
OMG Jedi Knight 4!!!

Need for Speed Most Wanted
THE best NFS game to date. Very nice graphics on the 360. Very challenging Career mode (most players it takes them at least 10 hours to beat if they have beaten it before) online and split screen multiplayer and of course easy as hell achievements (just beat Blacklist members). It also has a semi alright storyline and great cars. Career mode itself is very fun to play with other people as one of the objectives is fleeing from the police. On the higher levels the police get very challenging (you can at most get 100 police cars after you apparently)

No split screen sadly, though I'd still recommend it.
But yeah, I'd think PGR4 would be your best choice, only two player split screen, but it's a solid game. Should be able to get it for very cheap, too.
It's a great balance semi-arcade racer. You won't spin out on every turn if you're not careful like Forza 2, but you won't use boost and bounce off barriers like Need For Speed.
So yeah, good idea: Get Project Gotham Racing 4 and Burnout Paradise. It should cost you under $40 for both of them.

I do have burnout paradise. Thought the game was great, but no splitscreen was a HUGE letdown.
So PGR4 looks solid. I'll grab that. Any others come to mind?

No, there will be splitscreen "Party Mode" soon. Criterion announced it on their Halloween Podcast.

I loved Forza 2. Might be a bit too much of a sim game for your brother though.

I knew about that, but it's not out yet and I don't think it's split screen. "Party mode" means "pass the controller" - you grab the controller, do a jump or two, get a score, pass the controller.
I was gonna say Pure, but it has no split screen. I liked DiRT, but no split screen... Aaaarggg...

I'm not entirely sure the words 'good' and 'racing game' belong in a sentence together...unless your pointing out that they should not be in a sentence together.
But thats just my 2 cents.

Yeah I tend to agree with you. Burnout 3 changed my view on rejecting the possibility of a good racing game, so surely out of all the crap that's put out every season, something good has to be in the mix
