LucasArts Posters
I think this thread deserves a place at the Mix'n'Mojo-forums as well, so I'll just copy it over from the ScummVM-forums. Because of the limit of 15 images per post, I'll split it up (and reserve the first three posts for me... as if I'll ever need THAT much space)
The intro:
I've always been a fan of both painted artworks/posters and the classic LucasArts adventure games, and so I'm trying to preserve those classic artworks by Steve Purcell, Bill Eaken and the likes, cleaning them up, painting out overlaying text or stickers, plus taking the extra step to make these babies printable in poster size (or make them work as posters AT ALL).
Thanks to everybody who helped my gathering material, scanning their game-boxes and -manuals, without you I wouldn't have come this far.
Big thanks to the fabulous Adventure-Treff for hosting most of these files!
(this thread is now easily reachable through poster.mixnmojo.com)

Wow. These are wonderful!
The Sam & Max poster would look great next to the Season One and Two Posters.
Pity I don't have any of them yet.

How do you make these?

Would a normal print shop be able to print these out? I'm so having the Indy Fate and Infernal Machine ones. And maybe one of those Day of the Tentacle ones...

They might say no if they have a strong policy against printing up copyrighted material not belonging to you.

Yeah, I think it depends on the place you want to get these printed. Sometimes they don't care... sometimes they do. Printing them online (at German online-printing-services that is), has never been a problem though.
I've got mine printed at www.posterxxl.de (with their international sites for the UK, the Netherlands, France and the US)

I have a small request. Do you have a version of MI2 with the "2" still intact?

Would you happen to have the original Dig cover with the 4th astronaut from the audiobook?

We've been discussing that option at the ScummVM-forum-thread, and sanguinehearts over there already did a test. It might become a poster one day.

are you still working on the rest? this is really one of the best fan-productions in the scene so far... and it's not even the golden age of mojo anymore
full throttle, grim fandango, loom, OUTLAWS and the others still to come?

I have to ask... just what kind of technique did you use to get such a high resolution image off of box art and Manuals? Or am I just misunderstanding how you pulled this off?

Whoa!! If you ever make a Grim Fandango (series of) poster(s), I'll be eternally grateful and order them printed pronto! In the meantime, there's one or two pretty swell here (they're all great though, don't get me wrong!). Keep up the AMAZING work.

I'm using a combination of Photoshop-tools... some to remove the halftone-pattern (the color circles you see when looking at a printed image real close), some to smooth out some noise and several standard Photoshop-filters to add artificial detail to the images (like canvas texture or brush strokes).

A little something for you (click the image for a bigger preview):
As you can see this is far from finished... but actually this is how the DOTT-Star-Wars-artwork looked like in the beginning. I'll be getting there

Very nice work, I might have to look into getting one or two of these printed. Saw it on Kotaku yesterday, thought that was pretty cool.

Wow, you even got mentioned by Tim! :|
Congratulations dude!
Had the Monkey Island 2 one hanging for a long time allready though:
Made it myself back in the day when Steve took a picture of the original hanging in his house. It's not as nicely done though, and I had to smuggle the resolution with some filters. Looks great though.
I have a portrait of the Edison Family in the same quality too.
Now that I think about it, didn't I once promise to mail them to you, Laserschwert? :$
Do you still want them?

Obviously I don't need the MI2-one anymore, but you can send me the Edison-painting. Maybe you can upload it to something like Rapidshare.com or Fileload.us?

By the way, welcome to the forums everyone who has just signed up, or posted here for the first time! You are all very welcome to stick around and shoot the **** about LucasArts+! (That is, LucasArts plus all their offspring companies, e.g. Telltale and Double Fine)
I looked at the Mi2 artwork close-up and was really amazed by the detail. It looked like you had stolen the original artwork and scanned it in in very high quality. It had brush-strokes and everything! And I have no idea how you managed to remove the logo so well.

That was quite simple: I've traded my soul in for it... now the painting is cursed, and whoever puts it up his or her wall will be haunted for all enternity... still a good deal, I'd say.

Just printed out Monkey Island 2's poster. It looks... terrific. Yeah, that's the first time I notice how anger was it in LeChuck's eyes. That freaks my sister off )
Btw, I resized it to A3-size paper, instead of A0 of the original... (was it A0?)

I just signed up to say 'Please Please Please can you do the same for Curse of Monkey Island!??? It's my first game, and it's the best, but I don't play it anymore because I've finished it way too many times'.
So there you have it. Please. Pretty please. And with a nice view of Plunder Island's town, too! And of course, at least one chicken.

I don't think you realise how he makes these.
He doesn't draw them himself, he edits original artwork in a very high resolution from various sources.
To do such a thing with the 640 x 480 256 color screenshots from Plunder Island is allmost impossible, unless you want to redraw the whole island with a wacom or something.
I think your asking for a little much.

I think it might be possible, if you resized it, and then trace over all the lines (preferably with a tablet) and then refilled the colour.
But yeah, some of the sites that reported on this thread seemed to imply that Laser had drawn them or something (especially the DOTT/SW one which I guess they'd never seen).
Incidentally, I'd never realised that Laserschwert meant laser sword or whatever. I just saw it as a random collection of letters.

im with you gabez! on all accounts, but mostly the latter two!
redrawing plunder island like that, though, would be time consuming and probably lead up to an unsatisfying result..
