I love both ME1 and ME2. but don't shoot me down for this fans, but am i the ONLY one who preferred the ME2 equipment scheme to ME1s? I love how, yeah, u can buy a few different upgrades, but ultimately THAT is your armor. I really love that. I didn't like it in ME1. I just dont think Mass Effect suits that type of customisation like other rpgs..

Dragon age, however, DOES suit it.

EDIT: Am i the only one, while hyped up, worried about the arrival DLC, on top of ME3s release time..

a portion of the team working on arrival, and ME3 itself comes in winter...I don't think ME3 will be a great game if i am honest because I doubt it will have as much work done to it as ME2. We waited 2-3 years for ME2 remember.q

The one thing I do like about ME2 equipment scheme is I don't spend half my time turning equipment into omni-gel after I had more credits than Miranda's father. Also I don't see the negative in not being able to change armor beyond the DLC armor when the default armor has the ability to be customized and upgraded. At least now I don’t have 10 sets of heavy phoenix armor as Shepard’s best armor in his inventory while playing as a male adept.

I’m not worried about the development time for ME3. BioWare said from the beginning that this franchise would be a trilogy. So I don’t look at the development time for ME3 to be the time between ME2 and ME3, I see it more as the time between ME1 and ME3. I don’t look for a massive change in system between M2 and ME3, but more of a tweak of the ME2 system.

Bioware have listened to the fans and removed everything they didn't like, as was the case with the development of ME2. Subsequently, ME3 will consist of a 10 hour cutscene with a couple of interrupts to make something awesome happen.

Cutscenes are ok the first time to the extent that they advance the story (if only b/c the material hasn't been seen yet at that point), but should be skippable. Much of the opening of ME2 was like a gigantic cutscene that you should have been able to skip through on subsequent plays.

Yeah, it seemed like a lot of the loot you picked up was overly repetitive, esp the armor. Only way to change the problem of ill-timed "forced liquidation" was to go into one of the files and change the limit from 150 +/- to a much higher number. Still have to lighten the load periodically via omni gel conversion or a merchant, but it avoids you losing out on something decent in random stash loot b/c you hadn't done that yet b/c you forgot to pay attention to the lower limit while killing your enemies. Who knew that Miranda's father was only a multi-millionaire.

You are not alone

Micro managing is fine in some games.. just really felt out of place in ME1... that or I'm just getting old(er) and (more) impatient in my senility

^ Yah I preferred the stripped-down equipment in ME2, suits the universe more for me. Dragon Age (yah i know wrong topic, so sue me) does not suit it however. I always hated ME1's endless repeating armours and guns, only differing slightly in terms of damage and looks, and argh the bullet types grrr.

ME2's guns all have distinct looks and feels, and i like that. The armours are cool also, and it makes sense that you're not switching every time you find a new piece of equipment.

I also agree. One of the things I don't really miss about ME is the endless customization options. As to you, ChAiNz.....you lost your mind long before your "senility" caught up with you. Waltzes away before the "old man" can even find the perma-ban button

And 'romance options'. A cursory glance at the Bioware forums shows that the fans can't get enough of them romance options.

I find myself slowly turning into an NMA-style glittering gem of hatred. Must... resist....

Edit: Just wanted to add that the game would probably sell insane amounts of copies even if it was just a 5 minute long video of Tali taking the mask off.

Well, just got an email from EA telling me that Mass Effect 3 has an estimated release time of 'Winter, 2011'.

That and finding Mass Effect 3 on the Pre-order list of my favorite online game shopping site indicates that ME3 will be released around christmas/new years time of this year.

Sweet.

I even have the points needed to get it.

I'm also thinking that this DLC will become available ingame after the collector base mission, if shepard survived that is.

Thank you for that link Salzella! I am glad to know when that DLC is going to be released... although making the time to play it will be difficult. Somehow, I know I will find a way though

It will be nice to have Hackett back.... I liked his little interludes and praises (I play Paragon, yes I play LS too.... goody two-shoes FTW), and enjoy the voice of Bishop yacking through the com channel. I have to play ME1 at least one more time though; my second playthrough netted me a level 59 Shep with a fair amount of XP points to go to get to level 60. Seems I was not as thorough the second time through. The Arrival DLC provides a good reason to go ahead and max that character out, so that I can replay ME2 and make sure I don't mess up my affair with Liara this time

Oh... and not cheat on her with Jack and Tali

Haha.. I felt so bad 'cheating' on Liara (no clue Tali would be an option in the sequel ) I specifically made a no romance option Shepard in ME1 so I could chase Tali with no backlash (yeah, I know.. laaaame)

I now have 3 *main* male Shepards (and countless other misc.) prepared for ME3.. Liara, Ashley & Tali chasers.. guess which is my fave of the 3 though

Well, it couldn't be Tali. I think you've been dropping her name incessantly as some kind of red herring.....

NO.

Though I do think that Liara's pretty bangin'.

Takes Miranda too long to stop being nasty. Not as long as Jack (but ew, seriously) but still. Liara's awesome from the get go.

Liara is too innocent for me.

As for Miranda vs. Liara, neither please. Depending on lighting, Miranda's face varied from a bowl-clenching Michael Jackson lookalike to vaguely tolerable. She was much better in some of the CGI trailers though. Her arrogance was annoying, but understandable given the way she was engineered and raised. Liara always seemed bland and uninteresting, both in looks and personality.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of romances in RPGs, or at least the way they're usually implemented. It's rare for them not to feel tacked-on, doing little to enhance the impact of, or alter the progression of, the story. Also, most are not especially well written, and come off as contrived. Most times I go through with them, it is only to find out more about a character I find interesting, as most RPGs lack a real 'Friendship' path, greatly limiting what you can learn about a non-romanced character.

While they weren't exactly 'romances', Fallout 2 did a good job of having your 'romantic encounters' have wider-reaching consequences. You could be forced into a marriage, eliminate whole questlines, etc.

I also enjoyed the semi-romances in Planescape: Torment. They were understated enough that they didn't feel abrupt or tacked on, the writing was of a higher standard than usual, and they made narrative sense. For instance, although there wasn't any single-minded romancing going on, if one made certain choices, it would be quite clear that Annah or Fall-From-Grace had developed some seriously strong feelings for TNO. The whole situation with Deionarra worked very well too.

With DA:O Bioware made some good steps in narrative consequences from the Morrigan and Alistair romances, but they were still few, and only occurred at the very end of the game, lessening the impact. Also some pretty cheesy bits of dialogue, coupled with the 'give them presents till they wanna bang' mechanic, made it seem a bit absurd. Not Witcher 'Woman Trading Cards' absurd, but still weak.

TL;DR Liverandbacon is a horrendous RPG elitist with unfairly high standards regarding vidya game romance.

Yeah, I'd be happier if Video Games avoided Romance most of the time, tbh. It's been a -long- time since I saw one that didn't feel tacked on.

I have always wanted to date a girl that was that edgy and different, just never had the balls or a girl of that type that was into me.... until recently

That said, I am in a relationship and in RL am not big on the cheating thing, although I cannot claim total innocence. And, my tatooed RL darling is one of the most principled girls I have ever met... the look and what's inside do not always match the way you expect (book/cover)... that's why I liked Jack! That and, if you look past the anger and all the tats, she's got a smokin' body and a really quite pretty face, IMO. Far prettier than Miranda's, as I am in the same camp as Liverandbacon on the Miranda face - uh, the analogy you chose made me laugh out loud

Kiera... who is that? Is that the thief? Haven't played through with that DLC yet, though it is installed. I have yet to do my second playthrough of ME2. I only cheated on Liara after all she would say to me (after I missed the Paragon-click opportunity in the Broker's Lair before or after our special moment in Shep's quarters) was.... "It is nice to see you." I kept thinking she would say something else... and was heartbroken all over again.

So I went on a tear

I guess I will have to do multiple ME2 playthroughs, just to exercise all that romance. If I could, I would date Jessica Rabbit, so I guess any RPG romance makes me happy, even if it could be developed more/better, as Liverandbacon and Primogen have noted.

I agree, Jack looks like a combination of Keira Knightley and Natalie Portman while Miranda looks like a fat headed ass.

She'd be prettier with a bloody shirt on. Seriously, Tali is the only female on the ship that doesn't look like a stripper.
