That's a REALLY good improvement. I'm surprised how much of a difference that makes since the face is also quite different from older Guybrushes.

Apologies for double-posting, but here are some screen captures of the MI1SE team's concept sketches for Guybrush (seen in the promo video), in case anyone's interested.

(These last two stills, both parts of the same drawing, very much resemble the Telltale Guybrush.)

Finally here's a close-up of Guybrush in the finished game. His hair looks fine here IMHO, but your mileage may vary.

Yeah I noticed that art in the preview video.
Man he sure looks good on the top row there, reminds me of CMI Guybrush more there.
And that Monkey 2, Tales of era artwork looks really good aswell.

He looks quite good in the parrot petting pic, but not as good in this one
http://cache-foo.kotaku.com/gawker/a...reworks_SE.JPG

IF only his forhead didn't seem so huge on the sprite in the remake. Almost looks like he's balding.
If only we could convince Lucasarts to add in speech as an option in classic mode.
Even if the game is done, maybe in a patch?

It is quite remarkable how similar to Telltale's that concept art is. I still maintain that Telltale's truly does look like how an older version of the CMI Guybrush would look.

I agree with you Thrik that the main problem is really the ingame SPRITE hair, and the "bald sides" certainly don't help. (The ingame close-ups don't look too bad to me.)

But I'd go a little further than you, though, adding definition to the hairline itself:

It definitely looks better... but that's still a massive fringe thing he's got going on.

I've waited a decade for the chance to argue over what the new guybrush should look like... but now that the time is actually here, I can only weep, sissy little tears of uninhibited joy. Thank you, god....*sniff*

I for one don't have any problem with Guybrus's hair being a little blonder tough. They're obviously trying to tie the art to CMI a little, at least I think they are. Guybrush being taller also points to this I think.

I don't think it's the change, it's just the new look. I don't care about his hair colour or his height, it's just about how the player identifies with the character. CMI made Guybrush look nothing like he did in MI2, but we soon adapted. He certainly wasn't ugly like he is now.

Also: Which over-excitable mod decided to merge the threads? It's not like there's many in this forum you need to make room for, lol! What else are we going to discuss? ("No! There can only be TWO threads! ONE per each new game is more than enough!")

@LogicdeLuxe
I mean the FM-Towns versions in general.
Well the CD version is the same I know. I only meant that (BOTH) versions are exclusively.

There's some concept art on the official game site as well.
Kinda funny how most of the concept art looks better than the final art I think.

It's like that the new Guybrush got a punch in the face His face is very very strange. The sad think is, like you said, the game is done and there no solution to the problem. By the way... The concept of Guybrush with beard mean that we will have a Monkey 2 remake?

Do anyone yet know if the old graphic will have voice and new music? I hope it.

Maybe creating more topics on the Lucasarts Monkey Island forums about having voice when using old art will get them to reconsider?
I suggest that people who want the voices and updated music when using the old art create a topic about it on their forums.
At least it will show them there's interest for it.
I've already made my topic on the fact some days ago.

Why were these threads merged?? Now there's two conversations happening over the top of each other

Because this is the MI:SE thread, and there had already been a lot of discussion about the Guybrush design in this thread previously — thus the single conversation had ended up being split into two separate topics.

I noticed it was getting confusing when ATMachine posted all his stuff in this thread, despite your Guybrush conversation having now shifted to another one.

They're not happening over the top of each other, anyway. One guy brought up the sound issue again, which happens a lot in forum threads.

Are you serious? It was a light-hearted comment in response to urluckyday's similarly light-hearted comment that was aimed at myself as much as anyone else, seeing as I too said I don't like his new look and even did a quick mock-up of an alternative.

Don't be such a sour puss just because I had the gall to make an administrative decision. And no, I am under absolutely no obligation to stay neutral and out of arguments.

My apologies, Thrik. I wish you hadn't merged my thread, though... The whole conversation has completely petered out now, which is kind of annoying.

I'm hoping we'll be able to hack SOMI:SE so that everyone can get the "version" they want, even if LA don't decide to take action on the hair issue.

Seeing Elaine like this on the SE-website:

Laserschwert: Nah, it's probably a sprite from the MI1 ending where she climbs down the rope in the church.

My first reaction to this announcment was, "OMFG YESS! At last, now make Monkey 5". Followed by "OMFG YES MONKEY 5 AT Last!" (referring to Tales).

Then I saw the poster artwork and my second reaction was "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH GUYBRUSH'S HAIR?!!".

However I do not have the same problem with the sprite many of you seem to loath. Sure the basin cut is pretty ugly. But I think he looks like a lovable dork, while many of you think he looks unlikable!?

Yes I would prefer his hair was closer to the original style and the COMI style too, but I don't have a huge problem with the sprite at all. And when hearing the great voice over with the sprite he feels like Guybrush to me. And while I'm not overly fond of the hair in the closeups, it looks ok.

Gotta say the above mockup looks better though, and so does the concept art. And if there is a chance they can change it before release, then my vote is a BIG YES. Please LA, if you have time to make his hair a little closer to the original style and less of the basin cut with giant fringe, PLEASE DO!

Hate that poster hair too! Why the hell didn't they get Steve Purcell to do the new cover? Sure the rest of it is OK (besides Guybrush's ten feet tall hair), but it would have been WAY COOLER had Purcell done a new version.

Well besides the sprite's hair, I think it's tremendously harmed by that weird face. It's certainly much more appealing in close ups, but for some reason he looks corpse like and not anywhere naive like in the original game.

The cover is neat, besides Guybrush's stupid head, but what sort of bothers me more is they changed his expression to cocky, while Steve Purcell's original painting had a look of being overwhelmed to the point of fearful. The new 'tude expression is a lazy and trendy thing going on right now that amateur artists/animators use to quickly give their characters personality and create assymetry in the face. This is Monkey Island though, Guybrush doesn't need his eyebrow raised over an uneven smirk like he's in a Dreamworks movie.

I disagree with you on the sprite, I like it. In fact the more I look at him the more I like him. Sure the hair is a little silly but he looks like a lovable dork to me, the face front on look makes me smile! He looks confused and afraid...

Which IS the way he should look on the cover art. I agree 100% on that. I have no problem with Guybrush's face on the cover, just his hair and expression.

Wish Steve ahd done the new cover. At least he's doing a Tales of Monkey Island cover.

Because he could have done one based on the new artwork style, rather than the old. And there would be no reason to copy his own original poster either.
