It would be ridiculously cool if they change the poster themselves though...

Unfortunately though the fact that there is already products listed in the LA store probably means the the final proofs are signed off on and they're at print as we speak (Which is total shame as your redone scene captures the tone so well)

That right there is Serendipity, hopefully they are able to capitalize on it in some way. Never pass up serendipity, its a gift
Thanks I'm glad you like it. Would love to buy a poster myself but I just can not look at the Guybrush face.

Be sure to re-download since I just uploaded a newer version making the left side of his face less blue, as requested above.

That's much better. Perfect, even! Nice job.

Why did you change it? I liked the original darkness on the left side of his face... You didn't need to do anything!

(No need to create a new version or anything, though!)

So apparently the old LA store seems to be down for maintenance as the facebook page now links to StarWarsShop.com

The interesting thing is they no longer list the old poster... possibly reprints with your design? (hopefull dream )

LOL, somehow I doubt it, but it would be awesome wouldn't it!? I mean it is all work of the original artist. All I did was combine his work on the poster with his work on another Guybrush closeup (one that hapens to be 100x better than the one he did for the poster).

Strange because from all the other screens I have seen I think he has done great work on Guybrush, it's just that poster. Oh and that horrible render for when Guybrush flies at the screen, can not even imagine why they sent that to the press!

Unless your Joe Martin, or he took it from you. But it looks like a different scan from yours.

That really looks a lot better.
I didn't like the hair and the expression, but with one of them fixed, the other doesn't stand out that much, great job!

That's very poorly photoshopped (missing palm-tree, etc).

I actually think one of the biggest problems with the new poster is the awful garish colours. The original colour scheme was very well thought out and incredibly pleasing to the eye, the new one is full of terrible amped up garish, bright primary colours. Blahh!

It's actually very hard to say what IS the original colour scheme without having the original poster next to you. But, as I said, it is possible to fix those contrast/hue problems in Photoshop, I believe.

It's my monstrosity. It doesn't matter where you got it from, he still took it from me. I created it a very long time ago, using the picture from the Monkey Island Madness .exe docfile as a guide (and the palm tree and "lucasfilm logo" area) ... it was used later on World of MI (I don't know why - it really is bad)... here's the original for the exact version you posted, in lossless PNG format so you can see it is the original file:

As you can see in the final version I removed the Palm Tree entirely:

Well, for my version I took the photo of the "real" thing as a guide... but of course, you never now how the lighting in that room influenced the colors.

I think it's pretty close. (except maybe for the purple in the upper right bone)

Yes yours is fantastic. DO you work with Photoshop professionally? Because I do and your work is very professional.

Thanks for all your hard work on these posters! It's really great to have such beautiful versions for poster printing!

I concur, you've got some serious skillz, LS! How you managed to get that second palm-tree looking so goood, I'd love to know!

(You're probably bored of these posters by now, but the third tree (the one that's blurred) is actually very visible in the KIXX cover!)

Well, yeah, I work with Photoshop professionally, although I mainly work in the 3D-field (with 3ds max to be exact). But that requires skills with other applications as well. Plus, as a counter-balance, I do a lot of 2D-work (mostly with PS) hobby-wise, so there you go.

Cool, I never got into 3D work, my father does a little. Mainly designing equipment to be built in different fields. I'm a digital artists, flash animator and web designer myself.

And we are now officially off-topic ;-D

bare with me here but..

Anyone notice on Xbox Live 'Inside Xbox' today, the feature video is an In Depth of MI:SE at E3.

now either

a) Lucasarts have changed their artwork to remove the smirk or
b) someone at Xbox downloaded the wrong artwork to use!

Can you take a picture of that and post it on here or something? I'd be delighted to see them remove that smirk.

Nothing really new in that video, but it should hopefully raise awareness to the game. Might also be a sign that they're ready to tell us the release date soon?

But yeah it's definitely not the official artwork. That interviewer came across as a long-time Monkey Island fan though, so there are obviously some people out there who feel the same way about that official poster.

I'm guessing this was a deliberate mistake by whoever made that video (ie: NOT LucasArts, sadly).

Still freaking awesome, though. Clearly everyone agrees: It IS a better image.

Haha, well deserved, parabolee. Your art is way better. You should contact LA and ask if they want to replace their art with yours...

If I did that I would be afraid LucasArts might realise Microsoft's mistake (if that's what it was) and ask them to change it to theirs.

Although I really have no claim over the artwork, since it's just a composition of two official pieces of art. All the same I more than happy to give LucasArts and anyone else full approval to use what I did in anyway.

I have to say I'm pretty proud that the work I did might contribute to selling more copies of MI:SE, because the original artwork would put people off IMO. If I had never heard of Monkey Island, it would put me off!

Oh and it's not showing on the US XB Dashboard right now

Can anyone capture the video interview and post it?

Well I remember someone saying that they took down the poster for sale on the LA shop site. I read on Facebook that was because they ran out of posters... so much for them changing the art :\
