Lightbulb PC Games Magazine Reveals Jedi Consular and Sith Inquisitor

In the December issue of PC Games magazine in Germany, which features TOR on it’s cover, the remaining two classes are revealed for the game: The Sith Inquisitor and the Jedi Consular. This may come as a surprise to many who were not expecting the final classes in the game to be Force-using classes. [...]

To be honest, I can't necessarily see the difference in powers and nomenclature when it comes to Knight/Consular and Warrior/Inquisitor, respectively. I can understand the statistical contrasts, but when it comes down to mission and quests, I can't discern the real difference, unless if the Inquisitors/Consulars take more passive and dialogue-oriented quests, whilst the Warriors/Knights deal with more direct combat.

So, really, the last two classes were rather disappointing, and it leaves a rather similar, combat-oriented class gamut within each faction.

I was a little disappointed when I saw a headline saying what they were, as I didn't really want two more force classes. But looking at the screenshots in the magazine, I am liking the art of them at least, especially the Consular. Looks much less generic / prequel trilogy-like than the other classes.

But I see your point, I'm not sure where the differences in story will be with these classes. Honestly though I am confident that they will be unique enough.

To me, splitting Jedi/Sith into Saber classes and Force classes seems a bit much. It seems like if they had split Trooper into a Pistol class and a Rifle class. As one collective class of saber+Force it works, but together there's not enough to go around. How does a Jedi Knight's Epic Story differ from a Jedi Consular's Epic Story? It doesn't seem there'd be enough differences there to justify them as completely different classes.

Gonna be weird. I'm not sure why they went this direction considering the Jedi is such a hybrid already. I'm not sure why these roles wouldn't be encapsulated in the regular Jedi class. It just seems like they were somewhat desperate to fit the D&D mold and find a "Mage."

Kind of an unfortunate addition. I really hope the can differentiate these enough...because right now it's fairly redundant with the warriors and knights getting their own force abilities as well.

Odd, at this point I'm reminded to take a step back for my own sanity and remember that I'm not looking at the whole picture.

I guess for the story the consulers and inquisiters will play the more general/commander role and the Jedi knights and sith warriors will be infantry/field commander, but even then its not much of a difference.

Plus Troopers are already in the role of Infantry/Soldiers, so Jedi Knights in that role too would be redundant.

I can see the fighter Jedi as lightsaber specialists, perhaps using different Lightsaber forms, while the Force-users are a lot more like mages--using force powers a lot more than their fighting skills, so I can easily see a playing style difference. It's like the difference between Darth Maul and Palpatine, or Mace Windu and Obi-Wan. Maul and Windu would approach a conflict in a very different way from Palpatine and Obi-Wan.

From MST3K's spoof of "Hercules Unchained"--heard as Roman medic soldiers carry off an unconscious Greek Hercules on a 1950's Army green canvas stretcher: "Hi, we're IX-I-I. Did somebody dial IX-I-I?"

^ problem is they could have used Talent trees to do that they didn't need a whole new class.

Yeah that was kind of my thought initially too. They've said they are doing 2 different paths (specializations) for each class and if they had done 3 they could have just done one force class for each side and still gotten in the healer, ranged dps and melee dps/tank specs.
