getting phone numbers is easy

Getting correct ones is hard

Getting correct ones and they answer is nigh impossible

So apparently, despite my rent that I pay, not only is any alcohol that I buy from myself, but also now that I cant even keep food that I buy for myself.

IE: under both circumstances I keep in my room

true: I am still living living at home. But literally I can't afford to live elsewhere.

Ok, so I'm paying from room and board. And I can understand that if I keep food and drink in my room, it should be kept from the general population with the rest of the place.
I shouldn't have to lock my door everyday. >.<

OK... my ears have sort of stopped ringing.

Last night was a jazz band with string orchestra. A different challenge.

All nights this week. So much for seeing daylight.

Another long day...

So we got through 2 FULL days of rehearsal without a hitch... then on the first note of the first song of the concert, the bass amp channel (which was the "STAR" channel for this show, since it was Ron Carter tonight...) decides to crap out in a big and obvious way.

Forcing me to spend the first 3 songs troubleshooting fixes over the intercom from 45 feet away while the orchestra continued playing as my crew scrambled all over the stage to repair the problem.

Made for a long night... and I'm not convinced it wasn't his bass... but we had to try everything until we hit upon a couple of things that worked.

Ouch. That is bad

Good news. Looks like my mother is finally going to come home after having major brain surgery to remove a tumor last April. She does not have any use of her left side still. COnfined to a wheelchiar.

Thankfully Medicare is providing her with a care unit that Gets her prepared for bed, and ready in the morning after bed. And on a few days take her to a nursing home during the day. We are getting her a powered wheelchair, and already have a lift van for her.

Only problem is, she pretty much needs 24 hour care. So it is going to be difficult to do much else "on a whim" until I move in with my Girlfriend (possibly in march)

well, she only stayed a few days in the hospital.

She has spent the rest of the time at a "Skilled nursing" facility where the do a lot of rehab work. It has take a while to get all the red tape done to get Medicare to pick up the new care.

Btw, I now have new found respect and desire for a Universal health care system (aka socialized medicine). There would have been no way for my Parents to pay the $15,000/month care my mother needed without Medicare, not to mention the Chemotherapy, and major brain surgery she had. If there wasn't medicare, my mom would likely be dead or a drooling vegetable by now.

I just learned GT5 is delayed until at least Christmas! WTF?!?? Grr!!!

Well... that sucks.

Oh well... more time to blow through F1 and now I'll pick up the WRC game. And leXX has offered a challenge to me on Blur that must not go unanswered.

Still... that sucks.

Anybody play Minecraft? It's pretty cool.

Going to have to give the Force Unleashed 2 demo a try this weekend.

Should probably play some Halo Reach multiplayer at some point, too.

Haven't done Minecraft. Don't have that kind of time.

I might have a couple nights next week for some Halo though. Tuesday and Thursday nights should be free... if nothing else comes up.

At work with Hugh Masekela tonight. Blood, Sweat, and Tears tomorrow night. Whoo!

I'm gonna try to meet up with that girl from last weekend this Sunday (without her kids this time) to see if there's really anything there. She's been laying on the text messages and Facebook postings pretty thick this week. I've been just trying to keep up.

Looking forward to the Halloween update

So... Obama is apparently next door from my building at work.

The drive-in and parking situation was involved enough with everyone flocking into the city to go to the convention center... but now there are Secret Service guys (badly-named, as they are not at all secretive... they'd make terrible ninjas...) crawling all over our neighborhood.

Had to load-in early because the gear truck was in a no-parking zone for today, and we were told to have it gone by 2 (our load-in time) or it would be impounded with everything inside; then a bunch of people in the band (Blood, Sweat, And Tears...) standing outside our stage door were told to "be somewhere else RIGHT NOW!"

Fun day so far.

Played the Force Unleashed II demo last night. Pretty similar to the original, maybe with the visuals and control improved a bit. Two lightsabers instead of one seems to make the saber combat less awkward. It's been a while since I played the original, though. Anyway, I'll pick it up, probably in a couple of months.

My Girlfriend bought a new house today. Going to help her finish moving and do some lawn care this weekend.

Found a perfect recipe for Chocolate Martini's: 2 part vodka, 1 part Cream de Cocoa, 1 part simple syrup. Stir and strain into a Martini Glass rimmed with cocoa powered.

Felt lousy all day. Took the night off from work and found someone to cover for me.

My date went well yesterday... though she laid a lot of unbelievably heavy stuff on me. Turns out that both of her ex-husbands are incredibly abusive... to the point where one is behind bars for attempted murder (of her) and she's amazingly lucky to be alive.

I found myself crying about it all last night when I got home when I thought about all that's happened to her. Super horrible stuff.

She assured me that they are now out of her life.

Trust me: I'm playing it cautious, and weighing my options carefully... but she is clearly VERY into me. Which is the first time this has happened in my life, in... well... kinda ever. It's been several Presidential administrations anyway since an attraction was deemed to be mutual for me... Several VERY LOOOOONG Presidential administrations...

And since the text messages have turned... naughty... it's not helping me think super clearly right now.

It seems like my love-life has 2 gears:

I hopelessly pursue women who can never have the slightest inkling of interest in me (which I quietly did about 6 times this summer, with various degrees of complete abject failure, since things with M. reached a clear finality for me...)

Or I attract someone with an overwhelming amount of personal baggage... and it still quickly falls apart anyway... (as in the Myspace chick from 3 or 4 years ago...)

Well... life is full of chances, and I really don't take enough.

She is very matter-of-fact about all the mistakes and bad decisions she made in her past. She wants to go the complete opposite route now, and make the choices that are best for her and her kids.

I'll see her again, but I'm going to take it as slow as I can. My work schedule doesn't really allow for much more, anyway. As it looks now, it will be at least a week and a half before I have another full day off again... She might get bored with me long before that...

So I had a nice outing tonight

of course it envolved about 6+ hrs of drinking, but I feel alright (i mean barely (and I mean that) feeling my alcohol)
I was at the Navy Club
I invited SXW there, but he couldn't come til about 9 he said, but he changed his mind when I said that I would pick him up, so it turned out to be around 7 when I did that.

long story short even after his fiance showed up, even she enjoyed the place too
so the club might have two new members, which is so cool

Yea, get a phone call last night from my GF. She was having a breakdown. The stress of moving, work, and "that time of the month" along with misplacing her apartment keys.

Finally got her to laugh, relax, and ordered her to take a shower and a quick nap.

Called her 2 hours later and she found her keys and was all calmed down and going to bed

You people have some crazy girlfriends/potential girlfriends.

ed: that sounds like too much work. Just set it all up, then pay a hobo to sit there all night. Just put a cap and vest on him and no one will know. Then while that's going on, you can go and take a nap. Bam. Perfect plan.

It's all for a solo piano concert, too...

But there's lots of complicated projection and lighting, and 2 grand pianos on stage... one of which plays back what he plays on the first one using MIDI.

And yes: I've given up on looking for "normal" because I don't believe it really exists out there.
